I am pretty sure that my cohort picked our classes during the second orientation. I think they gave us the book list at the first orientation. Sometimes, people from previous semesters will sell their books on the fb group called CSN Nursing Rocks.

I don't know of anyone specifically who took lab & lecture in the same day, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. I highly recommend getting to know your classmates. If someone else is in the same boat, they might be willing to work something out that saves you both some $...you watch their child while they go to class and they'll watch yours while you go to class.

Take the toolbox course, but otherwise...enjoy your summer! If you're working, try to pick up a few extra shifts now...while you can. If you plan to spend $2000-$2500 per semester, that would be enough to cover books, tuition, and supplies. It's possible to spend less...if you have time to shop around.

Calls went out April 20th last year. If you don't recognize the number, answer your phone anyways. I almost didn't answer because I thought it was too early for it to be CSN nursing. Currently the fb pages for any of our nursing classes are student-run, so each new class takes it upon themselves to create one. Some faculty members frown on & even discourage fb, but not all of them. So, just be careful & use discretion with what you post online. Even private fb groups aren't always private. 😉 Just some friendly advice. I hope you find this information useful. 😊 It is given with intentions of peace and love. ✌🏻️❤️

Congratulations to those who already received their call today. Just some friendly advice that someone in another thread gave...if you know calls are going out, it's best to avoid calling in because it ties up someone who could be calling one of your future classmates. BTW, whether you received your call or not (yet)...please consider coming to the SNA meeting today @ 3pm, room K-101, West Charleston campus. It's potluck, and there will be a special guest speaker. I think you all might enjoy it. Student Nurses Association is for those in the RN, LPN, and CNA programs. Pre-nursing students can also join. It's a great group of people! I hope to see you all there! PS - you can have your phone on & sit near the back so you can exit easily. It's a student-run organization, so kinda casual.

I took BIOL189 in summer, while working FT. It was hard, but I earned an A (barely). I also hadn't taken a science course in about 8 years. My suggestion...don't take the lab that starts 10 minutes after the lecture ends. Give yourself more prep time before the lab.

Thank you, MallysMama! That's exactly what I thought. I am so glad I've been working on strengthening my core and getting in better shape before I start the program! Even if they did have lift teams, it's good for my health. But, this gives me even more reason to stay committed to getting fit. I appreciate your help!

Facebook group called "CSN Nursing 2015-2016" says, "This group is created for College of Southern Nevada Nursing Students who are beginning the program Jan. 2015 and graduating Dec. 2016." Hello, Las Vegas RNs! I recently read an article about moving/lifting patients. I have spoken to friends who are RNs in other states, but don't currently know any RNs in Nevada. Can anyone advise regarding whether Las Vegas area hospitals have "lift teams"? Or, are the RNs responsible for moving/lifting patients the majority of the time. Most of my RN friends in other states seem to indicate that it is a rare occurrence for RNs to be doing the actual patient moving/lifting. Either way, I have been doing strength training in order to prepare for this possibility. I am an older student, so I don't have the same strength as younger student nurses. Thank you Christina731. This is fantastic news! I have applied to the ADN program at CSN, awaiting acceptance into the Fall 2015 cohort. I just tend to think ahead in order to help me "keep my goals in front of me". ) I like to make sure I have researched my future path to the greatest extent possible. I have read many of your posts on here and have felt strongly encouraged by you! The way you "give back" by answering questions of those who are following in your footsteps is so very much appreciated! I hope that someday I can do the same for others. Thank you! I am 43yo who just applied for F2015 ADN program. I am spending the next 6 months working on strengthening my core because I do NOT want to injure myself because I am not as physically fit as younger students. I am also working on strengthening my hands/grip because I have been typing for 25 years and my grip is not what it used to be! Getting older definitely has its challenges, but we can DO this! Don't forget that mature thinking has advantages too!

Thank you, "Pairofshues"! I see that you have experience in Med/Surg. Did you participate in a new grad program here in Las Vegas? If so, I would love to hear more about your experiences. I understand that it is the "expectation" that every new grad do at least 2 years of Med/Surg before specializing. This makes sense because it seems that Med/Surg is a nursing environment that would give one the broadest experience. I have also heard that Med/Surg can be quite brutal, so it kinda scares me a little bit. So, if there is anything more that you can share about new grad Med/Surg in Las Vegas it would be so very much appreciated by those of us who have not yet reached that part of our journey...

If their initial evaluation doesn't give her credit for the courses she thinks she should get, then copy of course syllabus and/or course description in course catalog from the year she took the course at the transferring school can be very helpful in challenging the evaluation. I believe she would need to have the type of documentation that would leave no doubt that course content matches between transferring course and course at new school. As long as she can prove that, there should be no reason they would not give her credit. Sometimes, the initial evaluation can take up to 10 weeks. So, the sooner she can get that process started...the better! That way, she still has time to challenge/appeal any courses that didn't initially get the credit she feels in accurate.

Hi, Melliemel33! My sister had to relocate shortly after graduation due to her husband being in the military. She was able to volunteer as an RN through the Red Cross, and I believe her hours counted for licensing purposes. These positions are not available everywhere, but it might be worth looking into. Maybe just a few contact hours through Red Cross will help you meet the minimum. Since it would be volunteer hours, you wouldn't need to make a long-term commitment like employment. That way, you can still stay home with your little one! I hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi, ginasp88! I was told that the extended (part-time) track is more competitive because they have less seats available in that program. The lady in the Limited Entry Office can tell you what points were accepted in prior cohorts. She is super nice! Of course, that is not a guarantee of what points will be accepted in the upcoming cohort, but it's worth asking...just so you can have a general idea. It is all relative to how many points fellow applicants are submitting for your cohort. For example, if they have 24 seats available for F2015 extended track, and 24 qualifying applicants have more points than you...they will be offered those seats before you will. But, if only 12 qualifying applicants have more points than you...you would likely be offered a seat in the extended track. If prior cohorts had less qualifying applicants with more points than you then they may have accepted people with same or less points than you. Does that make sense?

My associates degree is from another (out-of-state) institution, so I am not sure if that is why I was automatically charged the ECF fee when I registered for Fall-2014. (Christina - Are your other degrees from Nevada institutions, if you don't mind me asking?) As far as your question, PTP...I opted to just go ahead and pay the fee, and file the appeal at a later date, rather than risk getting dropped from my classes. I had so much going on at the time (son graduated high school, family in town, quitting my job, training someone else to do my job, helping sister with new baby, etc.) I am taking my last two prerequisites and just didn't want to take the chance that I might be dropped for non-payment. (I don't know whether it would have happened, or not. I just sided with caution.) I am hoping that since I provided documentation of my degree under the appeals process that maybe (fingers crossed) the registration system will somehow recognize my prior degree and not automatically charge ECF the next time I register. Here's hoping!

October 15th is the last day to submit the appeals form for excess credit fee for Fall 2014 semester! Make sure you include copies of supporting documentation. It took 10 weeks for them to process my appeal and issue a credit, but I am just happy that the credit finally showed up. I was told that appeals form submitted to Registrar for crediting ECF fees is a completely separate process from how "excess credits" impact financial aid. There's a different form to file with Financial Aid called SAP (?) but I haven't filed one yet, so I am not familiar with that process. I hope this information is helpful...

Thank you, Christina! I appreciate your response. I have all my pre-reqs. I believe 224 & 251 are my last two gen eds. I am taking them both this semester. Some of my pre-reqs & gen eds are transfers from other schools. (TCE was completed by Registrar over a year ago, so at least that is out of the way.) 1st attempt at TEAS is scheduled for Oct 4th. I am meeting with Health Programs Advisor next week, and planning to attend LE App Workshop Oct 23rd. Just getting my "ducks" in a row. Hope you are enjoying the program! Thanks again! :)
