  1. Congrats, I too, am hoping to be an OB nurse. That's really inspiring.
  2. What are the hours for night and weekend classes at B&S?
  3. I guess nobody has enrolled or is not speaking up!
  4. I went to a for profit school so my credits did not transfer unfortunately. I wish I was able to tranfer something and the medical assistant training counted for something but community colleges aren't excepting medical assistant training as valid.
  5. So do you have to pay monthly installments? I will not be working during school at all.
  6. Yes I was thinking of applying but was a little afraid of the hefty school loan that I'll be stuck with after completing the program. I am supposed to be going in to speak with someone about the program pretty soon and was just wondering about others experience at WCU. I can understand completely about having support before starting the program, makes plenty of sense.
  7. Wow! I didnt know having a family had such an impact on the work schedule. Makes plenty of sense to me.
  8. @GrnTea that's exactly what I wanted to know, how nursing has changed your life and others around you. Your response put a smile on my face. As the old saying goes: Knowledge is POWER!
  9. How has nursing changed your life? Best decision you've ever made? Tell us how it has played a positive role in your life.
  10. @britbrat23 How did orientation go?
  11. Concorde grads where are you now? How was your experience at this particular school? Which program did you choose? LVN or RN? I am asking because I'm thinking of taking the entrance exam to attend this school for the 15 month RN program. Please give feedback, everyone is welcome :)
  12. True. Maybe it will help someone else searching for these types of schools. :)
  13. Have you ever thought about going to a private school? I know, I know its expensive but maybe they will give you a chance.
  14. Your classes taken at DNI will not transfer to a university. Your LVN certification WILL transfer though. You just can't quit in the middle of the program. Once you are finished you'll be able to bridge from LVN-RN and your school of choice will let you know which pre-reqs you need to take. For example, El Centro wants A&P, you may have already taken that and your classes at TCC will just need to be evaluated is all. You're actually ahead of the game if you ask me. After DNI, decide which school you'll bridging at and go from there. Concorde Career Institute also has an LVN program (13 months) and RN program (15 months) just incase you didnt know. Good luck on your endeavors :-)
  15. Yes but when the shoe is on the other foot, what goes around comes around.
  16. Yes that is how it is in Dallas. The VA hospital requires a graduate from an accredited nursing program while other hospitals and facilities do not. I was just wondering if going to a for-profit school made a difference. That's awesome that you two from the above posts were able to gain employment. That's a blessing. I don't understand why employers are that way when nurses who graduate from accredited or non-accredited schools work just as hard and pass the NCLEX.
  17. A school does not have to be ACEN or CCNE accredited in order to be approved by the BON. Students will still be able to sit for the NCLEX exam but the credits will not transfer if you quit in the middle of the program. To further your education the actual degree will transfer along with a few extra pre-reqs. Concorde Career Institute for example, is not CCNE or ACEN accredited here in Dallas but students can still take the NCLEX. I was wondering has this hindered anyone's employment opportunities. Not to bash anyone's route of education, judge or foretell anyone's decision of their school of choice. This is for someone who did not attend the traditional community college/university route. Did it stop you from getting certain jobs?
  18. Thank you, I have narrowed down to 2 schools now that I want to attend.
  19. I saw that on the website, its changed now. I called and asked, forgot the person's name but I was informed it doesn't have to be med-surge anymore. Employment just has to be verified by the employer now. That makes it a little easier now to bridge.
  20. I was thinking the same thing about DNI's ADN program, they make you do more than universities & community colleges to get admitted.
  21. Congrats! Thats great that you got the job. Maybe that was the place for you to be, back home in HH I didnt know it was that hard to find a job. There should be compensation for job searching. (Smile) In Home Health, what will you be doing different than before (aide vs nurse) on the job?
  22. Rozaay how has everything been going for you? That's great that you were able to find a job one month later! Did you attend Concorde's Arlington or Dallas Campus?
  23. Trust me when I say, the above comment is a TRUE statement! I am not a nurse yet but I was previously in the healthcare field, graduated from school and found a job through a temp agency. I then found full-time employment outside of the healthcare field and two years later I was considered an old-new grad. Biggest mistake I've ever made, because no Doctors wanted an old-new grad with a rusty skill set. I hope your daughter gets to read this. I wish I had fought harder and now I'm still fighting years later because of that mistake. I now have children myself and I tell them all the time stay with me until you finish college and gain employment so that you will be well set in this broken economy. Kudos to you for being there for your daughter and wanting whats best for her. She too will soon realize you only want the best for her.
  24. I've been having the same debate. I too am pregnant and was planning on attending school. My fiance is willing to give all the support he can to help me get through this. I'll be taking classes this summer and since I'm due in September, I may take off during the fall and go back for the Spring semester to continue or at least apply after my pre-reqs are finished to see if I get accepted into the program.
