  1. GWU MSN FNP Spring 2020

Thanks! Sorry I completely overlooked that post ?
  2. GWU MSN FNP Spring 2020

Thanks so much for your response! I’m excited about starting the program! I have 9-5 type hours now instead of working my usual 3 12hr/shifts per week. I know time management is going to be key! How was your experience finding preceptors?
  3. GWU MSN FNP Spring 2020

I deferred my start date for the program to Spring 2020. I’m interested in knowing how feasible working full time is while doing this program?
  4. I didn't end up going to Shiprock again. Another opportunity came up that was more aligned with my career goals.
  5. Chamberlain online RN to BSN review

First off, congrats on your new job. I definitely think the program is doable for working nurses. I only had to do the nursing courses, since I completed the pre-reqs already when I did my first bachelor's degree. I started the bridge program taking ...
  6. Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

Hi Heather, First off, congrats on your acceptance to the DNP program! That's great! I would recommend you apply for the scholarship even if your EFC is not 0. I believe they look at your application as a whole and if your goals are in line with th...
  7. Almost fired for med error

My sentiments exactly! Who would want to report med errors under fear of this type of retaliation. Poor environment to learn from mistakes.
  8. Forced to resign after 7 weeks

Like many others have suggested, I would leave the position off your resume and not bring it up during any future interviews. You never completed orientation or even your probationary period, so there's no need to disclose. Don't sabotage yourself in...
  9. New RN, looking ahead; MPH?

I understand! Nursing was a second career for me and just like a previous poster said, I received significantly more calls back after I finished my BSN than when I got my MPH.
  10. New RN, looking ahead; MPH?

I would suggest getting the BSN first because you can get a variety of public health jobs with a nursing background. The MPH by itself is not as marketable and the earning potential will significantly rise when combining it with a clinical background...
  11. How do you sign your credentials?

My full credentials are only put on my email signature. If I have to sign or initial something at work, I usually leave out the RN or BSN part unless it's necessary to include. I have a non-nursing masters (MPH) and that's included on my badge. I don...
  12. HR will ask for official transcripts to verify the completion date of your program... But that's usually after they offer you the position
  13. RN to NP education. How did you manage it?

Are you interested in going back into public health? I did my MPH before nursing school too and you're right... Opportunities will certainly open up to you once you're done- no matter the direction you end up taking.
  14. What do you hate most about your job?

Constant short staffing, mandatory on call, flex scheduling where you have to work a certain percentage of day and night shifts in a 6 week period. I enjoy my job but it gets challenging with frequent staff shortages and crazy work schedules.
  15. EMR learning curve

I love using Epic. I find the version that we use to be very user friendly. It's like a giant excel spreadsheet. My facility is in the process of transitioning to Epic. However, I've used this system for a couple years at a previous institution. I wa...
  16. First off, congrats on graduating. It certainly exciting to have made it this far in your nursing journey. To echo what everyone has said regarding starting as a CNA, I would say absolutely not. Getting RN pay/experience is more valuable. As far as w...
  17. Nursing pay

How does that balance out with the high cost of living there?
  18. Should I try becoming a nurse again?

I got my BS in Community Health before I did nursing so I completely understand the lack of job prospects with that degree alone. If you decide to pursue nursing again, you won't have to do med surg (unless you want to) once you get through your requ...
  19. Nursing pay

She may just work part time
  20. IV Rules at your Facility

Any patient going for a test with contrast needs to have a 20 or larger in the AC. We used to have to change out IVs after 96 hours but that policy has now changed and we can keep them in as long as they are still patent. As an inpatient nurse, I fre...
  21. Do any of you think about going to med school?

As a former athlete, I had contemplated on applying for a doctorate program in PT, but my path led elsewhere. I have no regrets with nursing.
  22. Male graduate and pinning

I had prior degrees as well before nursing school, so I went to pinning and skipped out on the graduation ceremony. I have no regrets. In my opinion, the real time to celebrate is after passing boards because then your degree actually means something...
  23. NURSE Corps Scholarship 2016-2017

My EFC was 0 when I got it
  24. Goodbye Nursing School!!!!!

Congrats on finishing! I took a vacation after finishing nursing school and it worked wonders for me. Best of luck!
  25. What we think shouldn't matter. If you don't believe you do, nothing we say will change the outcome. Not trying to sound mean, but If someone can talk you into believing in yourself, then someone else can talk you out of believing in yourself. Just m...
