  1. Well actually I want to get the BSN so that I can get the masters in thailand. It's complicated..............
  2. hi, I feel you in this. I got a BA from berkeley too. I then finished my AA in Fresno City College ( transfered from merritt). As I completed my ADN, I was told that I had to complete the local government thingy. I had to fight this or not graduate for a year.....delay my nclex. I fought hard and won, my BA was in rhetoric and had worked in 'local politics'. Yeah I had some trouble finding work in the bay area as a new grad. I was able to, but I had some immigration problems for my partner, which decided me on Canada. Lots of work up here, but a pain to get up here. Anyway I heard somewhere that Fresno University had a one class/clinical for a bsn if you have another degree...... I am hoping to find something that doesn't cost me thousands...... Rob
  3. hi, Thank you. I have looked into it and it's 134.00 per unit for at least 34 units. Which is still thousands of dollars. This is still mightily expensive for me and my situation. I could still use cheaper. Anyone have a good idea about that? Rob
  4. hi, I am in Canada now working, but got my RN in California and a BA from berkeley. I want a BSN on my way to getting a masters, but I don't want to pay all that mulla..... I know, but I have a good reason to be cheap. Also the terms of my work visa says that I can't go to school here in Canada. So does anyone know of a program that can help me, apply my BA credits, and get me a BSN cheap and fast; online.... A point in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob
  5. I graduated from Fresno City College. Something to be aware of is that they are really good about taking in a transfer...which is what I did. You can go to one school and then go to this one later..... -ran
  6. hi, I had a really bad experience working in San Quentin. They pay 10k a month, and still can't keep nurses? Something is wrong. It is not a supportive environment. Some of the guards don't like the nurses giving care. The older nurses who have been there forever and have been paid didly are not happy about the new nurses taking thier over-time. The administration is forever building cases for removing one nurse or another ( it's apperantly very difficult, so they have to start almost immediately building a case ). The system is dangerous to your license, as there is a lack of supplies, acute cases in places that shouldn't house them, etc. I don't recomend it. -me
  7. so your saying that there was not going to be a replacement for this LVN. She was going to be required to work a double?
  8. hi, I just graduated from nursing school in northern california. The simple answer to your question is that, yes, all nursing schools here are impacted. The more complex question...how do I get in? I have found that schools ( ADN programs ) have two methods of letting qualified applicants in. 1) waiting list ex. santa barbara city college. 2) lottery system ex. Los Mendanos college. So here's the thing, there are about 10 schools in the bay area that do the lottery system. You just need to apply to all of them. How do you find them? The BRN website has a list of schools, and you call...... As for the BRN part. Weelllllll, a lot of schools will let you transfer/RN-BRN, point is that you can do it later. I admit that they treat you better. Last point of advice, beware the school that has high attrition. Some schools kick out a huge amount of thier students, and once you get kicked out, your toast.

hi, I understand that I should go into med/surge for the first year, but ultimately I want to move into ER and then....... I am now in Fresno, but I really have no desire to live here so anywhere else in the state, country, western world would be fine ( preference in that order ) thanks, nurse2go

hi, I am just finishing up nursing school...YAY......but I need to find a job, should be relatively easy right? Well I'm sorry busy at the end here it's incredible, I'm sure you understand. I am looking for something specific. I want a great new graduate program. I dont care where it is, or even how much it pays as long as they have a great new graduate program, use computerized charting and the acutech system ( or the equivalent ). I live in california, so it would be more convinient here but I wouldn't be opposed to moving. Know of a hospital like this? thanks [email protected]
  11. hello, I was wondering if you might get back to me, or leave me an email. I am just completing nursing school and have spent a couple of years teaching english in japan. I would be interested in any job which could help me stay in the region.... Sincerely, Robert
  12. hi, I am almost graduated, WAHHHOOOO. I am interested in working Canada. So I will be going from California to Canada. The opposite direction most people go.....I was wondering what is involved. I guess I am just starting to do my research....what would be nice is to find a hospital where they will take care of most aspects of this for me.... Thanks, ME
  13. soooooo..... Let me get this straight. If I get kicked out of my nursing program, after the second year, I could start at Excelsior and transfer my first year of classes ( or take the tests.... )
  14. seriously, we lose a lot of students in clinical....and after the first semester, there is not one that I believe was appropriate. I know, I know....I was listenting to what they said, but really you got to trust me on this. I don't think clinical instructors realize this. When they dismiss the student, the student is DONE. No nursing program will take them on after that. All that work is down the drain. We have a clinical instructor whom removes 30 percent of her clinical class as a general rule. Each semester I have been here, I've seen that.
  15. Yeah I think the not being able to get into another program is the real problem. On the other hand if you transfer after the first semester...... You have the good grades from that school always. If you fail at the new school, then you never have to mention that school...... I think that thier policies about kicking people out were in place long before it got so desperate out there.....They did it with the knowledge that you could get into another program.... This is something I am wrestling with right now. I am in good standing currently, it the worst program in my state.......should I withdraw now, and save what I have done, or put it all on the line to finish in one more year?
  16. man I hear you. I think nurse instructors think that they are weeding people out so there can be good nurses...high standards and the like..... I wonder though how much of this is....I went through it, so you should go through it in the same way I did. Things have gotten different lately. Now if you get kicked out, your finished, in years past getting kicked out just meant starting over or transfering. I think your lucky that you only have to worry about passing and grading. All you need to do is study better/more/more efficiently. My problem is more insidious, I'm not really great at sucking up, or dealing with this kind of arbitrary authority. I think it's cultural, I never learned this kind of respect for authority...I kinda wonder how many new york jews make it through california nursing schools...... Stick with it, get a couple of good grades, and things will look a little different.
  17. yeah, I have had some trouble getting through the program. I think my situation is different then most, but I got to say that if your not really into it, you really should talk to nursing students. We are a stressed out bunch. I spend a lot of time with one student nurse who is now in AAA....she developed a drinking problem because of the stress..... I dont want to discourage you if your really into being a nurse, but if it's they pay your after, there are a lot of easier ways to get it. Prime examples: Respiratory Tech, Radiological Tech.... I just think you got to want it bad to get through it. On the other hand, our group has jelled incredibly. Everyone here is worried about the other students getting through it.....
  18. Well I made a mistake and thought that it was an intellectual, academic environment.... When they say they like questions = stop asking so many questions. The first round was kicked out for low test scores, fluids and electrolytes got a lot of people. Everyone else seems to be getting kicked from the clinicals. You will not get the information that you think you need or deserve...when are the tests/classes, what they will cover, when can I re-take my skills lab. You will be asked questions that you never had the information for, or the answer that you memorized won't be a choice, or the 'right answer' directly contradicts the book. The clinical instructors are all crazy....I mean that with respect of course, and they can and will kick you out for arbitrary reasons. It is not a...if I study hard I will get through this. It's a 'if I study hard, I'm lucky, I'm a good clinician, and my clinical instructors like ( believe in ) me I'll get through this. I hope this wasn't too sardonic, and it helps. I wish I knew this before I started.
