1st time Med-surg traveler looking into San Francisco - tips?
Hey guys, I am looking into the San Fran area also, and recently spoke to my recruiter as the travel company I've been with for a while. Up til now I've been happy with both the recruiter and the company. But he presented me with two scenarios for the San Fran area: 1.) Take the $1500/week GSA stipend and get paid $10/hour, or 2.) Take company housing (plus airfare and rental car, which I don't need but can get that taken out) and get the housing and make $26-30 an hour. Both of these scenarios sounded like lowballs to me for the San Fran area. Anybody currently traveling in the area who can shed some light on how bad I'm getting lowballed, or if these numbers are actually reasonable? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kingfish

American Mobile
Before you can begin as a travel nurse, you're going to need at LEAST one year of experience as a nurse, two is the standard. I'd focus on getting that stable position 1st after nursing school, then consider travel nursing. That's just how it works. Hope I didn't rain on your parade too hard

Where is the "nursing shortage" still going strong?
Heya, My wife is graduating in December, we were looking at the Bay Area in California but that's a cross-country move and it looks tough for new grads there. I'm got 3+ years ICU, so not worried about me, but can some of you folks who are living in REAL nursing shortage areas (AKA you get out of school and there's jobs aplenty for new grads) let me know where you are? We're willing to try anywhere in the country really...if there's any part of California that still has a shortage, though, feel free to chime in! :typing Thanks!

Any Bay Area new grads tried Corrections/Psych Nursing?
Hi, My wife and I are planning on moving to California (preferably the Bay Area) in early 2009. I'm an ICU nurse with experience, but she will be a new ADN grad (gets out in December). I've been reading the threads here about how difficult a time new grads are having finding jobs there around the Bay, and I was wondering...my wife is very interested in both Corrections as well as Psych Nursing. I'm wondering if her odds might be better with San Quentin (maybe even Vacaville) around, and a willingness to work Psych? Does anybody have any info on new grads' success (or lack thereof) landing jobs in those specialty areas around the Bay? Thanks! Any help or input is greatly appreciated. Kingfish
