Thinking of moving to UK
Just to give a little balance to the UK salaries mentioned by other posters here.... The Royal College of Nursing figure for the average UK RN salary is £24,841.... This is near the top of the Band 5 pay scale, which includes most nurses, outside of advanced or (junior) managerial roles... http://www2.rcn.org.uk/campaigns/pay_2007 http://www.rcn.org.uk/agendaforchange/payconditions/pay/pay2006.php Something to consider after the immigration/registration difficulties involved...

Tried and tested method to make hours up.....
Hi there, Not sure if these courses are valid for the US, but they are what will deem you eligible re education deficit in BC Canada. http://www.crnbc.ca/downloads/512.pdf I'm not sure if theses are the ones RGN1 was thinking of. Best bet is to chat to your Uni and see what hours they have recorded for you in theory/practice, if these look reasonable then, as SilverDragon suggested apply for a CES report, you may be ok re hours. Good Luck

UK-RN in SC?
Hi, Our education here in the UK often lacks the required number of hours in a few of the specialist areas required by the US Boards of Nursing. This may be an even bigger problem as you seem to have zero hours in a peds/maternity. SC BON website indicates that they require the CGFNS CES report for overseas trained nurses. Page 20 of this, http://www.cgfns.org/files/pdf/apps/CES%20Handbook%20Web.pdf application shows the areas they require theory/practice information on. Perhaps might be best if you contacted your Uni/School of Nursing to ask the for a copy of your transcript first to see if you have any deficits in your training before applying any further. BTW when did you finish your education? Seems like quite a few courses over the last 5+ years don't always meet US requirements. Good Luck

help needed please help!!!
Hi EN, first off, good luck with the US progress. As for the appraisal, I guess it depends on the wording of your job description, the common D/E merging into Band 5 did no favors. The KSF section of AfC should help in theory. Most trusts usually have an in-house development program. Even if you don't benefit immediately it should help down the line as your employer has a responsibility to provide for your development, (if you adhere to it). This should allow progression through the gateways, (though you are probably at/through the upper one of Band 5). So I guess make sure they are aware of what you do now, what you want to do & how they will provide you the opportunity ( & renumeration) for this. It should all be in a signed agreement. If this doesn't happen I guess it's a matter of (a)finding another post, (little chance of that at the moment) (b) Working at a level above your job description for no extra pay, ( sound familiar anyone?) © Stick to your job description exactly until retrogression is sorted. Good luck http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Humanresourcesandtraining/Modernisingpay/Agendaforchange/DH_4112440

Shift times
Hi, just thought i would add in our shift times (Emergency Dept UK), the widest & sometimes most frustrating that i have come across. 07:45-13:00 07:45-14:00 07:45-15:30 07:45-17:30 07:45-20:30 13:00-20:30 14:00-20:30 17:30-20:30 07:45-14:00 then 17:30-20:30 20:30-07:45 It allows flexiblity but can also be a nightmare have to work a 3hr shift, wastes an entire day. Anyone offer suggestions or opinions on a 3 shift system, i've seen a few on US web site?
