  1. I have to chime in because I feel that some of these responses (in many other threads, not just this one) are incomplete or have inaccurate info. There are different masters programs that offer you a MSN degree. Some take you straight to a NP and ta...
  2. Hey everyone, I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying to KSU'S ABSN (or even traditional) program and thought I would start one. I am taking the TEAS pretty late (early January) and will have most of my pre-reqs done by December, but I'm pre...
  3. Walked in on a pt rolling a joint

Anonumous666, I think you should have listened to me. maybe next time!
  4. What program to apply for?

There are indeed programs that offer a MSN for students with a non-nursing degree. A CNL is not an advanced practice position. If someone wants to become a NP after a CNL MSN, there are certificate programs designed to accomplish that.
  5. New Grad needs job in Atlanta Metro area

Congrats Terri8, I'm sure we'd all love to hear about your offers!
  6. Walked in on a pt rolling a joint

OP, it seems like you might as well stop following this thread. Online forums can be great, but they can also be a huge pain in the rear, especially when people don't take the time to read your responses throughout the thread and feel like unloading ...
  7. Which path should I take to become an RN?

Yes, look into specific programs you are interested in and see what courses they require before signing up. I haven't seen any in my area that didn't require anatomy and physiology and microbiology, so I think you can start there. But some schools ar...
  8. Private loan and no co-signer

I thought I would say that I'll have much more than that amount of debt when I'm done and while I am worried about it, it is the best decision for me. I am starting on the path to become a nurse practitioner and looked at many factors for the decisio...
  9. Petition to Force NP Programs to Provide Preceptors

I don't think it's much ado about nothing to care about the future of your profession. Anyone pretending they operate in an isolated bubble is unrealistic.
  10. Petition to Force NP Programs to Provide Preceptors

I certainly don't apply the common sense argument to the intricacies of diagnosis and treatment in practice. From my latest research on the topic, outcomes from NP providers have passed the muster test. My argument for common sense was directed towar...
  11. Petition to Force NP Programs to Provide Preceptors

It's called common sense. Just because something doesn't have mounds of data behind it doesn't mean you can't logically compare facts and come to a conclusion. A program that thoroughly vets its preceptors vs a program that allows you to pick any NP ...
  12. Tell us your career path after leaving the bedside.

I like your lifelong learning plan! And I didn't mean "leaving the bedside" as in never working near it again. I'm not sure of a better generalized way to describe career paths other than staff nursing, so that's what I used. I can definitely see ho...
  13. I am curious to see what career paths other have chosen that have taken them away from the bedside/direct clinical care. After reading many posts detailing the prevalent problems with management (ratios, staffing, retaliations, etc), I am more intere...
  14. MSN - can anyone reccommend an online program?

This applies to lots of areas in life, as well. And the search bar will point you to many threads with good information.
  15. Is a ponytail appropriate for a possible interview?

I've never been a subscriber to the belief that hair needs to be back and away from the face for an interview. I've almost always had my hair down and curled because I feel most confident that way. It doesn't seem to have held me back. If you're goi...
  16. How long did it take you to do your prerequisites?

I already have a bachelor's but had zero pre-req sciences completed. On top of that, I wasn't sure which type of program I would apply to (PA, direct entry NP, ASN/BSN/MSN) or which school, so I had to take a lot of course just in case. I took 19 hou...
  17. Seeking Advice About Jobs

This. And also, a bird in the hand... Always give yourself options and in this market don't turn away a good job in a department you know you like. Best is the enemy of good, or whatever that saying is! Not to be a Debbie downer, but until you have a...
  18. Georgia board of nursing

I've tried calling this office three days in a row and the line goes straight to busy each time... Does anyone have a working phone number?!
  19. Ten Tips for New Grad Nurses

I've been told agencies don't work with new grads and want 2 years of experience before working with you. Yay or nay?
  20. I got a B in Chemistry!!!!!

Congrats! I took chemistry 1 & 2 within one semester and it was awful! I got my first C in chem 2 and I really thought it would hinder me getting in to nursing school, but it didn't. Your grades are higher than mine and seem competitive to me. Be...
  21. English speaking nurses in France

Oooh I took 6 years of French and I'd love to eventually/finally put it to use! I'm interested in hearing more about your job and how you got it!
  22. Any other BSN students thinking about applying to NP school?

ThePrincessBride, I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. I am speaking of direct entry masters level RN programs, NOT direct entry NP programs. If you're saying that generalist MSN nurses are getting negative feedback when applying for job...
  23. Any other BSN students thinking about applying to NP school?

My post was in reference to ThePrincessBride's comment about employers not wanting to hire grad entry RNs. Whether she intended that to mean what I interpreted it to mean or not, this statement was what I was responding to. I know enough about the "h...
  24. Good points. Do you have any solutions to propose? I think change would have to come from the top- stricter requirements for programs and licensing. Also, I see the demand growing for NP due to baby boomers, obamacare and all that- not so sure about...
  25. Any other BSN students thinking about applying to NP school?

I don't understand the hate against grad entry/direct entry RNs (not talking about Direct entry NP- that I can understand a little better). My program is a masters level pre-licensure (non-nursing bachelors degree) RN program that offers more clinica...
