Frustrating Last Semester
I am a 51 great old male, I graduate in December 2013 I have 51 days, never had any medical jobs, I was a tool and die maker. It was a tough time. I had to care for my dad for the past few years (copd) he died 7 months ago, my son was killed 2 years ago, my home was hit by a tornado, I had to take classes that were pure bullcrap, had nothing to do with nursing, so I feel your pain, hang in there, it's all down hill from here, A week after I graduate I have to move out of my home, (ohio) and I'm heading south, to Fla. I am starting a new life.

Do you actually study A&P book for exam? or you just refer to it?
My instructor would ask questions word for word out of our book, then ask theory based questions, so you HAD to read, besides that, you get a better understanding of the subject than reading fragmented sentences on some spoon fed PowerPoint, . In the advanced courses you will be glad you actually read the book and retained the information.
- How old were you when you started nursing school?

Feeling so defeated
I am a 54 yr. old Male, I decided to go into nursing school 4 years ago, I was an outsider with no prior medical skills, most of my classmates were/are females 20 to 30 years old, and I felt out of place, but as time went on everyone accepted me as one of the class, although there were a few who never said much to me at all, soon everyone realized that I knew what I was doing and I wasn't going to bite, I became a source of knowledge they relied on . Don't worry about being " IN" some group, concentrate on you and your needs, because every semester the groups are splintered, to different classes, different class times, different clinical sites, some drop out so it is a changing dynamic all of the time. keep doing what you are doing and you will be accepted, and you will be fine. I Know.

tucking scrub pants in shoes
First, It will not look professional, and even if you do get away with wearing them that way, the other nurse's who will be evaluating your performance will not give you the best rating. Second, no matter what scrubs you wear, you end up pulling them up all day long. Now try to keep them up if they are being pulled down with every step you take. Do your best to blend in with everyone else, don't draw any more attention to yourself then you have to, as a student everything you do will be watched by someone.
