I Want To Be A Nurse, But My Grades Aren't Competitive. Help!
This is exactly what I did and what led me to the school I am now. I did all my prerequisites at a college in the city that I live. I had a 3.5 gpa and got an 89 on the HESI entrance exam. I did not get into the program. I applied to a school out of state, which is 30 mins from the city I live in....I got in and did not have to take an entrance exam. I am also at an advantage as I dont have other classes to take with my clinical. Im in my first clinical now. have three more to complete to graduate.

Nursing school is killing my relationship!
What I admire more about you right now, is your faith....and I encourage you to keep this attitude, cause at the end of the day, God sees us through it all. After we do our part, he does the rest. When you feel weary, just ask Him to carry you, and you and I both know He will. Hopefully your boyfriend will understand....you two will find some balance and your relationship will not go down the drain.

Nursing School changing criteria to pass classes
80%???????DAMN. Our pass rate is 75% and that is already as hard and challenging as it is, much less for 80!

Nursing school is killing my relationship!
WOW. I started my first clinical this January and that was the first thing my professor spoke to us about...this was a total dose of reality. she said being in the nursing program will determine who is genuinely there for you and who isnt! and she's right. She said a lot of us may lose relationships out of school. She said it's common. Whatever you do, your education is more important than your relationship. that is something you will have FOREVER. not everyone is built the same. if it's one thing we would expect, is for our partner to stick by our side, be our relief and encourage us during such a difficult time, as in the end, both of us would be benefiting from the career. If your partner cannot go through the lows with you and understand your pressure and be of support to you, he CANNOT ENJOY YOUR GLORY. If they cant go through the dirt, they cant enjoy the gold. Right now I am in a long distance relationship. I will be moving when Im done with school. My partner has been encouraging me throughout, especially more now, as I have broken down a lot as school is as hard as it is. He pushes me to study more. When Im on a break, he flies across or I fly, so I can free my mind. He's even made the decision for us to see each other every month rather than every other month. I do not know if it will always continue like this, but Id love for it to. But if it's one thing you don't need right now, is the extra stress....it will affect your education. My advice: speak to him. lay your cards on the table. explain the pressure and how you feel. if he's not willing to go through it, let it go....i can guarantee you that you will find someone who deserves you and prevent you with the support you need and accept you unconditionally. you guys are engaged. if he cant go through this hurdle with you, he's not ready to go through the rest of your life with you! #myopinion *cyberhug*

Journal Articles
Hi jEnny. My old school used the sources you mentioned. I will have to wait for next week to find out. I got some sites from a Nursing Student Handbook that I purchased. I will make use of them. Thanks for your assistance

Journal Articles
Thanks love. Will do.

Journal Articles
There is a public library next to my house. I plan on visiting them to see what information they have.

Thank you. I am looking in CINAHL right now. Thing with our instructors, a lot of them push you to get information on your own. When you have Adjunct Professors telling you they dont know this and dont know that, it's kinda pointless depending on them. I actually get more information on here than from my school. Thanks again for your help.

Journal Articles

Thank you mam. Yes I am a student. We are currently on spring break and the school's library is closed. I also live out of state from my school. I am trying to get as much information as I can from all other resources rather than depending on the school's resources alone. I also know that there are experienced people on here who can give the best advice and techniques, that's why I posted asking for other suggestions.

HELP - need advice!
Sorry to hear about your situation. You've made the right choice by taking the summer off. That would give you more time to spend with your kids in a difficult time like this. At such time, they need that support and attention. And also you will be able to provide for them both financially (no matter how little, its better than nothing) and emotionally. In a situation like this, family comes first. All the best and hope it works out for the better. PRAY.... ({})

I got a Test Success book for Nursing Students..i will follow the method they suggested for studying. They suggested reading the chapters before class and the same day after class or a day after. Im also going to try the study groups. I believe my way of reading wasnt sufficient. The book also suggested getting articles from journals based on the topic being covered. Thanks for ur input will keep u guys posted on my next grade and if the new methods worked

Clinicals
Ive had two exams in clinicals and FAILED! First exam was cause of family issues. I was not able to study well.second exam i studied my butt off. I used all our required text books to study. I used fundamental success to do practice exams and i also googled some. I feel so discouraged and depressed. I have two exams left to get no lower than 90 and a final to pass this course. Failing is not an option. I am here for advice on studying techniques and other resources to pass this course. Passing grade is 75. Course average for the whole group is 74. Our next exam is on the older adult(healthy and hospitalized), elimination and fluids. Please help.

Starting pay rates: Then & now
Things WILL get better my dear. Just stay focused on the bigger picture. We all have to start off somewhere. If you have to relocate to get more money, do that. Dont be discouraged and think it will always be like that. You can use your story to motivate other new grads and individuals who are interested in nursing. The things we want the most and will cherish the most never come easy. so dont be discouraged

Starting pay rates: Then & now
What state?

Starting pay rates: Then & now
I agree. It is better to have you foot in and gain experience with a low income, and move on up....Sometimes experience is more important, especially as it's so hard to get in as an RN, with an ADN. Id take that any day, rather than waiting a year to get a job. What you want now is to get your feet wet

Where should I go if I want to start in the ICU as a new grad?
I heard that the residency programs are very good. You're almost guaranteed a job when you're done because it's like thy're training and molding you to be the employee they want. So look into them

How far do you travel?
I live out of state. I live in NY and attend a school in NJ. I go to school evenings and weekends... This semester I have lecture Wednes nights and clinicals 7am to 8pm on Satur. I work full time, Mon-Fri, 8-4. I take the train, which is like 1hr20mins with connection. On a Satur i wake up at 4 to be at the train station by 5. On a Wednes I leave work at 3. The great thing about this semester is God has helped me. I have a classmate who lives in my state so she gives me a lift from class, as she drives. I always say, God help those who help themselves. My commute seems like a lot but I look at the bigger picture. I know it will be worth it....as Im doing this for me! So, if all the schools you are getting are far from your house and you're able to get there, I say DO IT! It will pay off in the end. If I can do, others do it, you can do it too and you wont have any regrets!

NCLEX I PASSED!
I think what he/she was trying to say that together with the NURSING KNOWLEDGE, PRAYER brought success. A lot of us have the knowledge and freak out when we get in front of the exam and end up failing. Not many of us are spiritual and believe in prayer but to those of us who are, that form of encouragement is the BEST. It reminds us that no matter how tough times may get, just as long as we do our part, God will do the rest. Congratulations on your achievement. I wish you the utmost best in your job search. If it takes you months to get one, just remember to be patient and faithful, as God didnt bring you this far just for fun. Keep that faith...be the best NURSE out there....you're an example to me, who's scheduled to take the NCLEX in Dec 2015/Jan 2016, God willingly.
