  1. What were the other choices, OP? Generally, we would put the bed at semi-fowlers for increased ICP.
  2. I would just like to say one thing. As a new grad, the direction this post has traveled makes me very sad. I graduated at the top of my class, and apparently that is just not good enough for some of you. I thought my program was hard. I guess I am not as smart as I thought I was, since my ADN program was watered down, and all. I already feel like I am not good enough and I don't know enough as a new new nurse, but now apparently I was poorly educated, too. That's all.
  3. Most every professional company offers some sort of tuition reimbursement! My husband's manufacturing job will pay for him to go back to school, even! What is absurd is accusing anyone of expecting a hand out, in relation to that benefit. When I was job hunting, finding an employer that valued education in its employees, was a must. The hospital I chose values education, by helping pay for it. I don't need to be coerced to further my education.. what a ridiculous statement! Maybe its regional, but I know very few professional companies around here that don't have some sort of educational credit. Around here it is an expected benefit by anyone in a legitimate career. If it is "hand out" one wants to stand up against... try standing up against these hospitals thinking that they can have someone for nothing. In many other professions a higher degree demands higher pay. If nurses want to be seen as in a professional career, they should be expecting the same benefits as any other 9-5 office professional. That being said, if your employer requires it, to keep your job, you're dang right I expect them to bear some of the costs!
  4. I enrolled in college for my 30th birthday! At 33 I start my first job (TOMORROW!) as an RN. You are not too old. I love male nurses! The old stigma about men not being nurses is ridiculous and outdated. Go for it, man, if this is what you want, do it!! When I told people I was going back to school I got mostly positive feedback and a couple "YOU?!?! Nursing?!?!?" Those comments hurt, but you know what? They have their own problems. You do you and forget the haters!
  5. I think the saunder's questions are easier than the real exam.
  6. Ok, that is where I just generated my quote from... even the most expensive, with my "new nurse discount" is 55 a year... stupid not to!! Thanks for you help!!!
  7. Does a personal umbrella policy cover in a malpractice suit? I am thinking not... maybe I should ask my agent... hmmm
  8. Ok... where do you all go for malpractice? Thanks for all of the advice, friends, you have been most helpful.
  9. Just be honest. When I got my job, one of the interview questions was to describe an error and how you reacted to it, what you did to fix it, and what did you learn. Everyone makes mistakes, learn from them and show future employers what you learned and focus on your excellent track record. Me think that they just needed to get rid of some staff....
  10. Without starting a political debate (you won't get any rebuttals from me, at least) can you give an example or two of the policies that turned you off? IE They are anti-Obamacare and you are pro... whatever.... just say... "they lobby against obamacare." save me some time, maybe?
  11. I love my Littman Cardiology III. One day in nursing school I was using my "good enough" steth... when my co-sign nurse asked me what heart tone I heard and I had to admit I couldn't really hear that well, I bought a good one that day. It was embarrassing and called into question my assessment skills... no more cutting corners for me.
  12. I just bought 2 more pair of the Koi Lindsey pant.... I love them so much. I am 5 foot and fluffy, they have a petite that fit me fantastic. I have no use for any other pant brand. They do wear between my legs... but my thighs rub together, so I expect that.
  13. Degree.... check License.....check First Job..... check Now what do I need? Malpractice insurance? Membership in the ANA (healthcare politics is a passion of mine.)? Local nursing association?? Tell me what to join. :) I want to be involved in my chosen profession. Advice?
  14. I just got out of nursing school, so my experience is limited, but I had a patient, post hyst whose Hgb was at a 6. My instructor was all panicked, barking out orders to even the floor nurses to get her ready for blood. The doc came by and was all "meh... she is usually low," and took off. Pt was fine... no blood given. instructor didn't win any points with the nurses on the floor.
  15. from this thread. there are two attachments at the bottom of the first post. https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/passed-my-nclex-750555.html
  16. It also depends on where you live. I know some areas will not hire an ASN.... Me? I live in Iowa. I had a job waiting for me, when I took my boards. I took them last Thursday and start my new job tomorrow. Oncology RN
  17. Sounds a lot like my story. I bet you passed! The good pop up is a pretty good indicator. My license number just showed up on my board of nursing's website and I start my new job on Wednesday. congrats ahead of time
  18. What was your previous career? Business Owner, day care provider What is your current position? Oncology RN How has your overall experience been as a nurse? I will let you know, when I actually start! :) Do you have any regrets? Not a single one. I was able to stay at home with my children until they went to school full time, then I went back. I have been able to follow my dreams, and I wouldn't trade any of it for anything. I am seriously panicking about my new position, but so excited to get moving.

  20. I am so jealous that your license showed up so fast!! Seems like we are stuck waiting forever! lol
  21. Megan-- I said that a bunch, too!! My nerves, my nerves! I am pretty sure I have an ulcer! HAHA!! You can do it!!! Be confident! Embabjr-- THANK YOU!
  22. I am glad it was so easy for you. I agree with TU RN, however. Studying takes time, the general population (me included!) needed time to study. It was for my own piece of mind, really. Congrats on passing!
  23. I just wanted to come on and post my positive NCLEX story. For a while there, I would come on here and read a lot about not passing, so wanted to share my pass story. The study regimen was not too special. I was given a tutor through ATI from my school. I did that entire ATI study program. I also did questions on an app I downloaded and the free NCLEX 3500 questions. The ATI thing sucked, basically, it was super long and a lot of work. But you know what? It worked. I attribute my pass to that program. On the day of the test, I was basically a mess. I was so nervous I thought I was going to throw up. I got to the testing center and was pretty panicked, until I sat down. As soon as the test started my brain kicked in and I was very focused. I was feeling pretty good and when the test stopped at 75, I was not surprised. All in all, it took me just under 1 hour. I had been dropped off by my husband, so as I waited for him to pick me up, I did the PVT, really minutes after I did the test. I thought I was going to be too nervous to look, but I did it. GOOD POP UP!!! I refused to believe it, but today I got the "pass" on the Pearson website. We were in Best Buy looking at TVs and I burst into tears! lol... The poor sales guy! He was super happy for me, too.... HAHA! The first time I typed CJDMOMMA, RN, I cried again... My advice. Be confident. Do many, many questions. I got 1 pharm, I didn't recognize. 1 math, and many, many SATA and priority. I could feel the questions get harder, then easier, then harder again. Just do your best, focus on what each answer is trying to tell you. Why is that particular answer being suggested? What does it mean? I think what the ATI program gave me, the most, is the confidence to work through each question, one at a time and not get bogged down with how many I needed to do ahead of it. I also looked through Saunders in my down time. Read all of the little bolded items, they help. Oh and the long study guide from here helped a ton too. Lastly, don't let the nay sayers bring you down. Everyone wants to tell you their horror story. Everyone wants to tell you how hard it is, and how awful they felt after. Just do the work ahead of time. It is not that bad, you can do it. Keep your head about you. Good luck!!! You can do it!!!!!!!!!! Now I wait for my nursing license number to be issued so I can start my new job! I got a position on an oncology floor and I couldn't be more excited! Emily, RN
  24. Oh I know I need to study more... I just started studying for NCLEX. My confidence issue has been the same since I started nursing school. sigh
  25. How important is confidence when taking the NCLEX? Pretty important, yeah? I have none. I keep visualizing getting on the computer after 48 hours, to see my quick results and failing. I keep visualizing my initial reaction to failing and how my family will take it. I'm no genius, but I am assuming that is a bad thing, right? Sigh... I've passed school.. I passed it handily, no less, got a 95% pass rate on my exit exam... yet I still feel like I don't know a dang thing. Every practice question I miss or get right because I guessed makes my confidence drop just a little more... How do you encourage positive thinking when nursing school has beat it out of you? Pity party... table of one.
