Nurse Charged With Homicide
I worked at Vanderbilt for a few years up until last month. (I only left so I could stay st home with a baby). The “help all” Nurse is an extra nurse that is staffed to go around helping anyone who needs help and who helps cover lunches. If you’re busy and a pt needs a new IV or a glucose stick or help pulling up a pt, etc...it’s just an extra set of hands (and a brain) to keep everyone caught up. There is no extra training required beyond an RN license. Normally though the “help all” might watch the other nurses patients so he or she could run down to radiology and administer the medication themselves.

Does anyone here actually like being a CNA?
I liked being a CNA more than I like being an RN.

From floor nursing to phone triage
I was actually an oncology/palliative care nurse too. I moved to another city and took a job as a neuro telephone triage nurse. Hated it. Absolutely hated it. You literally sit and and answer the phone alllll day long. I only did it for 6 months and went back to the floor. It was mostly just the sitting in one spot all day that I hated. And there is zero patient care or interaction other than over the phone. That was just MY experience, I'm sure it's different everywhere.

Pens and Ibuprofen.

I am not proud of my track record.
If you like caring for people and like the medical profession you could maybe consider being a CNA. You can still care for patients but won't have the pressure of medications, etc...

Crossed the line with a flirty family member. How to deal with ethical issues?
I'm all for not mixing business with personal lives, but it's only natural to build a relationship with patients and families and sometimes tell a little bit about ourselves too. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. If it bothered you that you said anything personal then just live and learn and don't do it again.

Agreed. Terrible terrible school. All I can tell anyone about that school is to stay far far away. I would even suggest withdrawing and starting from scratch somewhere else instead of wasting another dime or another second at that place.
