  1. red corset, black hotshorts, black kneehigh boots, and dripping in rhinestone jewelry classy! lol
  2. hahaha good point.
  3. the strippers i used to work with made $300+ an hour....:chuckle (just had to throw that in there for laughs. this thread was getting too serious) anyways, i like what you have to say and agree with you. -Sue p.s. no i was not a stripper; i was the head waitress.
  4. hi my name is sue, i'm a student at UL in lafayette, la. i've been trying to check out Asheville for the longest time and last month i finally made it up there. let me just say WOW! what a great place to live! and i will definitely be moving myself and my baby girl up there just as soon as i finish school! asheville here i come!!!! woohoo!
  5. i just went to check out Asheville last month and i am DEFINITELY moving there just as soon as i finish school. absolutely fabulous! go see for yourself! i promise you wont regret it!
  6. hi! i'm sue. i'm currently a nursing student at ULL (lafayette, louisiana) and i just want to say that i want to move up to NC sooo bad so i'm really excited to read all of this positive feedback about it. all of my cousins moved up to asheville about 5 years ago and love it. i'm a new single mom and i want to raise my daughter around my relatives (plus i really hate the climate here. louisiana is the armpit of the nation!) so i'm looking into moving up there once i finish my BSN here. i'm looking at real estate and it seems so expensive compared to lafayette. i'm guessing its because when i type in 'asheville', i'm only getting results within the city? maybe i need to be looking in the suburbs? but what are some of the areas? also, what can i expect my starting salary to be in asheville? and if y'all have any other input to offer, i'd appreciate it. i cannot wait to get up there!!!!! oh and i forgot: i'm going up there to visit oct13th-16th!!! anything that i must see while i'm there???
  7. please keep this thread updated with what you find out because i will be in the same predicament within the next year and a half i think. good luck!
  8. oh my gosh! please continue to go on! this is exactly what i was looking for. someone who is in a similar situation as me to give me advice on what to do. seriously, thank you so much for your insight. this is the plan i've come up with so far: 1. apply for charity fall '06 by august 31, 2005. 2. continue living in lafayette with parents and saving money until june '06. 3. continue taking pre-req's necessary for LSU at LSUE from fall '05-spring 06 4. also 21hrs from LSUE from fall 05-spring 06 to get certified in office info. systems (so i can get a better paying job to support me while in school) 5. find out around december '05/january '06 if i got into charity fall '06 nursing class. either way, continue taking pre-req's for LSU because no matter what, my ultimate goal is NP so i will need them. 6. apply to LSU for fall '06 (probably wont get in because i will be finishing up pre-req'a so i apply again for spring '07 which i probably will get into) i figure this plan will insure that my time is spent wisely and with the least amount of waste. i wont be totally SOL(sh1t outta luck) if i dont get accepted right away because i will still have my OIS certification to make ends meet and support my baby girl. please tell me what you think and feel free to add suggestions and by all means speak from experience. i know i may come across a little naive but i promise you i am not one of those headstrong dummies that wont listen to those who have been there/done that. i am trying my hardest to figure out the best way to go about this so i deeply appreciate any and all advice given. thanks so much. -Sue
  9. thank you so much for you input and motivation! after reading what you have to say, i know i can do this. (at least i think i can? haha.) my parents are very much against it and i hate doing anything without nod of approval. (god i sound like such a baby, but its really not like that. they just know how hard its going to be to be a single mom plus clinicals.) how do you plan on doing clinicals with kids? i have somebody to keep my baby during the day for free, but what about at night when we've got studying/projects/etc.???
  10. yes i am considering LSU's program too. i have several pre-req's to take for that one and i am in Lafayette; plus i have a one year old baby so i'm trying to figure out how to move down there and do this while being a single mom. i really want to do this. i miss nola so much and i know would be a kickass nurse. i just gotta figure out a way.
  11. ooh thanks for responding! and congratulations!!! you must be so excited! just curious, what is your MBA in? if not nursing, did you pursue it in order to get more money? i've heard of others doing that so they could get grant/loan money. i'm a single mom but i have a BS so i cant get a grant (which i think is poo, but whatever.) so i was trying to figure out a way around that.
  12. aww thanks penny! thats so sweet! yeah i know what you mean about people not talking about their GPA's. (i secretly figured out a few people's ID & passwords and peeked at their transcripts....you would not believe how many people lie about their GPA's, lol! i guess they do it to intimidate the competition or something ) oh and by the way, you and i would have been in micro & lab together. i was scheduled to take it this summer too because it was the only pre-req i had left. but since i wasnt accepted, (and because i heard it was hard as hell at LSUE versus a lot easier at OLOL), i dropped micro & lab. so i wont be there in class tomorrow morning, (well actually today, lol)... i'm going to miss LSUE. i really liked that school. especially Dr. Vidrine best of luck to ya! -Sue
  13. i'll take as many dead bodies as you can throw at me....just so long as i get accepted into clinicals somewhere! i'm not picky, just let me in! lol! -Sue
  14. i recently found out that i did not make it into clinicals at LSUE and i am now scurrying to try and make the August 31st deadline for the Fall '06 class @ charity. i've received the application packet and pretty much know the basics about what i need to turn in but i'm sure there are things i could be doing in the meantime that might help me to get selected such as a certain GPA, volunteer work, getting recommendation letters, etc. could any of you kind souls please help a stressed & desperate but determined single mom out??? i currently have a 3.2 gpa (cumulative). i also have a bachelor's degree in a non nursing field. i only have 1 D on my entire academic record which i later retook and received a C in, (college algebra). never failed a class. i have all of the pre-reqs that charity requires. if i think of anything else i'll post it. based on your knowledge of who seems to make the cut, do i appear to have a good chance or not? while i'm waiting to hear from charity, i will also be attending and applying to OLOLC, (i need 3 pre-reqs over there). always good to have a plan B, lol. -Sue
  15. a 3.4? Mrs. Debeche told us that the lowest in your class was a 3.2 and the lowest this year was a 3.3, (but not all 3.3's got in and some of the alternates have a 3.2 but they have medical certifications)......either way, i didnt get in, i had looked into applying at LSUA but i thought you had to be enrolled there at the time of application...please if you know different let me know. i was going by what was stated in the LSUA catalog. it might have been an out of date one. i would greatly appreciate any info you could share...i'm trying to take advantage of all of my options. -Sue
  16. trust me, i would have if they gave us the chance. unfortunately, we dont have interviews and we dont get to write personal letters. they're not interested. they ONLY look at GPA. in the given situation where they're down to the last few spots but have, lets say, 30 people with the same GPA - then they pull the applications to see who has certifications such as LPN, paramedic, emt, etc. its really sad that they do it that way but even worse - they dont offer any kind of help to those of us who didnt get in. i would just like some transfer help from them. that would be really nice right about now.
  17. yeah at LSUE they specifically told us NOT to send letters of recommendation; that they would be thrown out. also, they dont care at all if you have a bachelors degree. i have one and i didnt get in. all they look at is GPA. (which i dont find to be fair but hey i dont make the rules, lol)
  18. wow this is really great info! thanks you guys! i just got rejected from LSUE, so i scheduled an appointment to see Tasha Torrence @ LSU to see about transferring. i have a bachelor's so i'd like to look into the CARE(Fast Track?)Program. its really tough to get into LSUE because they only go by GPA mainly. i work with the girl who got 6th alternate. she has a 3.4 & she's a paramedic! i had a 3.238 so i probably wasnt even close, lol. but a good friend of mine in the nursing program @ LSU told me that he was accepted with a 2.8 so that gives me hope of getting in over there. anyways, thanks for the heads up! -Sue
  19. thanks for the input...i was thinking about going back to NSU if i dont make it into clinicals at LSUE. (i love natchitoches). i've heard mixed reviews about how hard it is to get in, but i didnt know anything about the communication gap and wondered if there might be a problem with that. -Sue
  20. hey i'm waiting to hear if i got into LSUE's program, but if i dont i'm interested in the LSU one and i'll have to act fast seeing as how summer school is about to start up. to save time, can you give me the phone number of who i need to call to find out about this? Thanks, Sue
  21. i'm starting to think that every school makes that same claim. i actually went to northwestern several years ago, but not for nursing so i am of no help to you. -Sue
  22. hi y'all and congratulations on getting accepted! i was down there at delgado in 2003 trying to finish up my pre-req's so i could apply to charity but had to move home to lafayette and now i'm at LSUE. the cutoff GPA to get into clinicals here is really high so i'm trying to figure out a plan B if i dont get in. plus i desperately want to move back to Nola, i miss it so much. i was hoping y'all could answer some of my questions so i can get ready in case i need to transfer: i heard that there is a year long waiting list to get into charity, is that true? how does the selection process work? gpa? holistic? what classes do i need to have completed to get in? do they accept fall and spring or just once a year? what tests do i have to take and when are they? and if there is any inside info/helpful hints you can give me they would be GREATLY appreciated. when i was at Delgado in '03, i felt like a lost child. i didn't even have an advisor and some student worker did my transfer credits and told me that none of my sciences from other 4year colleges transfered so i would have to take them all over. i know that i would have had a better experience if i had had someone answer all of these questions last time for me. i hope y'all can help me. thanks in advance! -Sue
  23. thank you peachy for confirming what i had already predicted about this program. oh and dont forget, you have to sign a 3 year contract with one of the hospitals if you do the accelerated program. i was also told by a secretary in the UL nursing dept that i would have to re-apply EVERY semester! (i think she was mistaken but either way this statement did not impress me.) i'm so glad i'm not wasting my time over there.
  24. hi meredith and congratulations on your acceptance!!!!:balloons: :Melody: can you explain this "holistic" selection process? i'm at LSUE waiting to hear if i made it into clinicals but the cutoff GPA is usually so high that i'm already looking into a Plan B, lol. I'll have at least a 3.2 and I already have a bachelor's degree. i went on the OLOL website and looked at the transfer equivalency chart and i think i have just about all of the prereq's. if you had to guess, what do you think my chances would be of getting in? -Sue
  25. oh i know huh? plus i take 45mg of adderall a day so you can probably imagine what a spaz i must be! lol
