I work at Piedmont Atlanta as well and do enjoy it. So far, this system is one of the highest paying systems in the metro area. Call shifts seem to be unit specific, and have been few for my unit. Epic isn't bad....just takes a little getting used to. The tiny print can be a pain. Hope this helps.

We wore whites to pinning. When several students mentioned buying new scrubs for this one ceremony, one of my professors said to look at it kind of like a cheaper wedding dress. I know that may sound silly but your pinning is your commitment ceremony to the profession. After I thought about it from that perspective $30-40 bucks didn't seem so bad.

Just went to active shooter training today lead by our security director who is former military and a former police officer. Our code is now a plain language announcement of a an active shooter in the building. Our policy is get out....if you can't get out then hide out, and as a last option to take out the shooter if necessary. Our security team has started implementing drills and will carry them over to the entire staff and community law enforcement later this year.

Make sure that you have the best fitting condom cath possible. Additionally be liberal with the skin prep. I definitely discourage using briefs as they tend to promote break down. Most hospitals in the Atlanta metro area require that you have a BSN. Have you tried West Georgia health in LaGrange? Or the hospitals in Columbus. You can also try Shepherd Center in Atlanta.

Manny, I worked as a Nurse Assistant in the float pool while in school and I loved it. I was able to not only network all over the hospital, but I was able to experience providing care for many different types of patients. It also gave me some quality time management skills. Another thing to remember is your senior practicum. That will be another opportunity for you to network. That was ultimately how I got my job after graduation. Good luck to you!

Our school offered Virtual ATI and I didn't really care for it. I did some of the extras but mostly just took the tests. I mostly used NCSBN learningext. I also used Mosby's 20th edition. I took my test today and got the good pop up. Keeping my fingers crossed until I get the official results.

There are a couple that I have looked into that are reputable. The University of South Alabama and Frontier. Both have students and alumni that seem to frequent these boards. As far as getting it all done as fast as possible, you sound a lot like I did when I started school. I am 33, have 5 kids, and just needed to be done. I just graduated with my BSN, and am now going to wait a year or two. Here's why. First, you only know what you know. Going through my senior practicum drove that point home. It is one thing to read about respiratory distress, a code, etc,but it is something entirely different to be there in that situation. All I can say is that it is very humbling. Secondly to go from being a new grad nurse to a provider in one swoop is a lot. I know that it takes a few years, and that it can be done. I just don't know that it should be. Just my 2 cents worth.
