  1. I didn't. I found that a majority of my classmates did and purchased new cars or a home. I didn't start spending $ until I started traveling.
  2. I started my first nursing Jon at a SNF on nights. After 2 months I got a job at a local hospital and it was a day shift position. My experience was never hostile. In fact I learned so much starting on days. Loved it and am back on days again as a travel nurse.
  3. I bought one when I started traveling and I loved it. However, since I have since started working meds and NICU, it has been sitting in a storage case since it is too big for my needs
  4. I had a difficult time when I first got mine too. The bell on the littmann is much shorter than the WA. Make sure that you are leaving enough space between the bottom of the cuff and the brachial to prevent rubbing.
  5. No you don't need a top of the line one. The littmann classic II s.e. is budget friendly and is a great stethoscope. Yes, hospitals have disposable steths available. The hospitals I did my clinical at had them for isolation rooms and everyone would use it. Gross! So I would say you need to get your own. Good luck!
  6. I agree. The cardio III is a terrific stethoscope. However, a lot of people had it in my school and I wanted something different so i went with the WA. I love it just as much as the cardio III which I used briefly. Now I am on the market for a Master Cardio but will probably wait.
  7. The littmann was a present. I used it twice then switched back to the WA. Let me know how you like it when you get your steth!
  8. Hope you get it soon! I think it took about 3 weeks to get ours!
  9. Love this article! I had a girl in my class who blamed everyone else for her grades...especially her youngest child. It was the same excuse every day. It was pretty despicable to me to blame your mistakes on a helpless child. Pretty disgusting if you ask me. I wish someone would have shared this with us in school. We had a bunch of complainers and whiners in our class.
  10. I am the same way!!!! But instead if being rude, I still try to be polite. I guess I am definitely more vindictive. Most of my close friends tell me they hated me the first time they met me because I'm a B***h. Lol. Glad to know I am not the only one like that!
  11. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I guess its always humbling to be reminded that more money=better is not always true. If you do not think you can work there any longer then I would start looking for a new job ( secretly of course) and don't quit until you have one lined up. It seems to me, from your post, that you have tried and shown that you were willing to accept any criticism or suggestions. Good luck!
  12. I am scheduled for first week of July. As of this moment there Are 3 days open in June (next week) for Peoria, Springfield 2 days, and 1 day in June for Schaumburg. July: 3 days Schaumburg (15,22,31) 10 days Springfield 6 days peoria
  13. I just got mine today! And already schedule my exam. I am feeling so numb right now. I am a poor test taker so am freaking out like crazy deep breaths I know!
  14. I work PRN as a tech and our PT/OT staff is wonderful. However, I was in my last clinical rotation which was ortho. One day I had 4 patients and I was passing meds. OT set one of my patients up for their bed bath. Got him/her seated on the edge of the bed after ambulating and set bath supplies on bed side table. Did not tell me or primary nurse. Pt was 1 day post op knee. Needless to say, the patient tried to stand up to clean herself and promptly fell! We were both upset about it and the NM ended up talking to their supervisor. I will track down pt/ot now when I know they are taking one of my patients. Lol
  15. My friend started the program last year and loves it. Classes are 8 weeks long with numerous week long breaks. The admissions person I have been dealing with responds to my emails in a timely manner. I had an issue arise when I had my last transcript sent. I requested the school send it after final grades posted. They sent it a few days after graduation but they still did not enter everyone's degree earned. So, needless to say, mine was sent without my degree on there. He was the one who brought it to my attention luckily! I believe tuition/books/fees will be around 18k. Some people think it is pricey but I haven't had to pay anything towards my ADN. Considering one school around me is about 20k/year I thought it was cost effective.
  16. I had a name tag on mine that was engraved but I lost it during clinical one day. Wasn't worth the money to replace it. I do have the chest piece engraved with my name. I have the 28" model. Funny story....my first day of clinicals one of our instructors kept telling us we should cut the tubing if our steth was too long. I was obviously new and green around the ears. So I go home and decided to cut 2" off the tubing. You can imagine my horror when I try to reattach the chest piece and it was a no go! I look and realize it was a dual channel tube. I was horrified after I mutilated this piece of equipment that set me back $220.00 when I first purchased it. LOL. Luckily I called WA and they promptly sent me new tubing with no hassle! So thankful they have a 10 yr warranty:)
  17. Do they offer the accessory kit with it? I ordered mine from Steele's and they give it for free if you order the student kit. It also came with a CD to distinguish heart sounds. Hope you like it!!!
  18. When I took Kaplan, one of my classmates asked the instructor this same question (as obviously everyone has areas of strengths/weakness). She told us that even if you fail one section it will still be possible to pass. HTH!
  19. That's tough to say since each person is so different. I would really suggest you try them both. To me they are both comfortable. The littmann ear pieces are soft and squishy. The WA are also rubber but more firm. However, I like that the WA is more adjustable. I ordered my WA online and got a student accessory kit for free. It included 3 sets of additional ear pieces (2 hard and 1 soft) in addition to the one on the steth. It also came with a peds converter kit to change the steth to a peds steth. Very useful!!
  20. I have both of these stethoscopes and like them both. The littman is very light and comfortable. I can hear sounds well. The Harvey is considerably heavier. The chest piece is stainless steele. You could probably knock someone out if you throw it hard enough. Lol. The binaurals are both adjustable. The earpieces do not curve out like others do so you know which direction is correct. Tubing is dual channeled. Its is very classic in its styling so I find it to look more professional. I use it more than the Littmann Classic.
  21. A couple of my classmates and I will be starting Indiana wesleyan as program in sept. They do not require clinical and the very few core courses requires for me I can take during the program. I do not have to finish them early...and best of all for me, no statistics! Good luck
  22. ....my fiance. He has been extremely supportive. I quit my ft job months before I started the program. I did pick up a PRN job. The first year I worked about 8-12 hours a week. At the start of the 2nd year I worked a few hours here and there. Maybe 8-12 hours a month. I wasn't eligible for financial aid due to my income at my old job so my family paid my tuition and books. I was very fortunate....I couldn't have done this without them!
  23. I forgot...we graduated 5/18 and our DON sent everything on the 20th. One school here is still waiting and Mennonite is still waiting as well.
  24. IL is about 2 weeks behind. We were told it'd be about 4-6 weeks. When did your stuff get sent to them?
  25. Sorry to hear about your issue I'm Filipino too but am a USC. I've been reading a lot about the concurrency issue and it sounds complicated. Unfortunately, most of the posts ended with the student taking LPN/LVN exam since they were not able to get it settled. Good luck! Ps....I would suggest reading some of the posts on the international nursing forum. Tons of posts about that problem
