  1. do you think the prof will fail me? or I will face negative consequences? The prof hasn't responded to my email. is she investigating what happened?
  2. Thank you for the info that nurses' names are not under HIPPA. I will research that more. I did not write the patient's name or initials. Next time, I will not write an email and will report it immediately. I am worried that the prof will somehow reprimand me for not reporting it earlier and for writing it in an email.
  3. Please help. I need your advice. During clinicals, a confused patient got angry and hit me. I told the nurse and my professor that the patient got mad at me. I didn't tell them that I was hit because I was shocked and felt bad that the patient hated me at that point. Then after clinical, I emailed my professor, described the situation so that my prof knew exactly what happened when the patient hit me. I emailed my prof because I wasn't going to clinical again until next week and didn't want to wait. Now I am worried that my prof will fail me because I wrote the nurses name in the email. I did not write any one else's name. I wrote the nurses name because my prof had asked me that day how my nurse was and asked me for her name. So I wasn't thinking and thought it was fine to write her name. The purpose of telling my pro was to make it known that I was hit. I did not tell the facility because my prof said to let the prof/school handle their relationship with the facility. I regret writing the email. What if my prof says I broke HIPPA? What if I fail or get kicked out? Next time, how should I handle this?
  4. What about a student I saw who took out his cell phone and took pictures of the exam? Seriously, cheating is so rampant. It's disgusting. No, I would not be caught because this particular student sent a mass email to every single person in our class. Yes, I understand what you're saying though. It's not a big deal, but at the same time, it is.
  5. on the floors, it's hard to find one so many RNs have one of their own. have you started clinicals yet? if not, you would not understand.
  6. Laptop, multi-colored highlighters, medical/bandage scissors, 4 color ink in 1 pen, pulse oximeter, notebooks. You don't need much. Maybe med deck or drug cards but if you make your own, u will learn drugs faster.
  7. In my cohort, a student offerred money to switch clinical sites. This is not ethical. Should I report it to our program director? I don't want to be identified though. Any ideas on how to do this anonymously? Thoughts in general? Has this occurred in your program?
  8. I can only hope I have awesome coworkers.... The people you work with and your boss make or break the job! Seriously.....
  9. Thanks for your input. I'm not really looking for a diagnosis or medical input. I wanted to hear more from other nurses and how they deal with fatigue. Did you have to switch from 12s to 8s like another poster? Did you switch out of a very physically demanding department to another nursing-related field? Etc. But thank you for your response.
  10. I'm thinking that I'll do the night shift 12 hours first, but if that really is affecting my life negatively and I'm depressed and tired all the time, I'll try to find 10s or 8 hrs somewhere... Hopefully, I'll get a job after graduating no matter what the hours are!
  11. ... When did I post that I have low test levels for testosterone?
  12. I did. But yes, your comment reminds me to not share personal health issues online. I was just wondering how people who tend to get tired easily deal with such a physical job as nursing. Do you just sleep a lot during off-work days? I guess I'll see when I get there.
  13. That's what I'm wondering about... Will I have energy for outside of work? I'm glad you were able to minimize your headaches! What a relief. I don't get them often, maybe once or twice a month around menses or just if I haven't eaten. My thyroid levels are normal too... I'm like you, I can function on 6 hours of sleep, but I really need 8. I know one thing I need to do is exercise more... I'm going into nursing because it is a hard job but can be very rewarding and fulfilling. I don't want to feel tired all the time though or depressed.... Self-care in nursing is important. I hope to find balance. Anyway, I guess I should graduate first and get licensed :)
  14. No, you're absolutely not too old to go back to school. It's optimal to do so when you're single, no kids, no morgage, etc. But it's going to be a long process. Research the local programs. Volunteer. Fulfill the pre-reqs. Apply. Try to save a lot of money when you're working full-time, so you don't take out loans later or so that you have money to live off of if you go part-time because the program schedule might not be only at nights. From my experience, all of this might take you anywhere from 2-3 years. Best wishes! If you have a goal, don't get distracted! And don't give up!
  15. Are there any RNs out there who feel weak and/or tire easily? I'm short and petite, get headaches easily if I miss a meal. I am pretty strong though... just lack endurance. I'm in nursing school right now.. just wondering if any nurses out there have advice, can share thoughts on meeting the physical demands of nursing? Also, have you switched to a different field within nursing because it was less physical? I want to be an excellent nurse who pulls her weight and goes above and beyond, but I wonder what it will really be like...
