Question on office injections?
there is NO question-you should be given you injections sub-q and NOT in the deltoid......just say "hey I was wondering if you would please give it here: (and then show her!) I'd really appreciate it!"

Which classes most helpful for LPN's in clinics?
Balckcat, it also depends on the "climate" of your town....for example do people think of your office as a mini ER? Or do they know to call the squad-or go to the ER---in our town folks come in all the time and we have to send them to the hospital via the rescue squad....... :stone

Which classes most helpful for LPN's in clinics?
I would just add- knowwing what your setting does and doesn't do. Even my place where I have been for 7 years-some days we send folks to the ER and some days we don't. So yOu have to be prepared for what ever.......

Get you EMT as well......that is so helpful in an office setting. As you can see from many of the posts here people will walk in to the office sometimes, and be on the way "out" WE had a man once who went picking blackberries and had gotten stung- and of COURSE did not have his EPI pen-he almost died in our office-thank GOd he didn't we had O2 and EPI and Bendryl IM but those are the kinds of thinks that happen in an office! All the best to you.

totally overwhelmed in L&D orientation-help!
I appreicate all the support but I have to tell you----I went back to my"old" job! I called my boss and he said YESSSSS!!!! right away. I hadn't burned any bridges! The final straw for me was when NO ONE spoke to me after I had been in a class on their unit all day! and.....I will not tolerate the infighting between OR and L&D. Here's the thing: I have never been happier! I just had to know I choose to be in my job-I am not stuck! I could get hired-had great references and experience----but way too much has changed for me! There were three different computer systems to learn- 1) the MIS system for charting and patient orders.2) the PIXYIS the pharmacy computer and 3) the fetal monitoring computer! too much! WHERE's the PATIENT? LOST in the background! Thanks for listening!

Lpn in L&D?
I can tell you my experience----I only lasted two weeks-they didnt' like LPN's where I worked.....they all thought I was a clin 3 (until they looked at my badge) they they would be like"oh" and not talk to me again. I kid you not! Then the OR people don't like the L&D folks-(they come up for day C/S's) it was HORRIBLE-and that doesn't include the fact that I had to work nights-the night shift folks were supposed to be "nice" anyway good luck to you!

totally overwhelmed in L&D orientation-help!
I wonder......the day shift folks don't even speak to me---and the main OR people don't like the L&D and vice versa.......it's too much to figure out....and we are supposed to be helping patients-not sizing each other up!

totally overwhelmed in L&D orientation-help!
Hey guys....you all know how much I wanted this position-but now? I have been on my unit one week-the first week in the OR all days.......even scrubbed two cases on Frid. but they keep adding new info and I have not even retained what I have! This is just for scrubbing C/s and the main OR folks are orienting me( they don't mix with the L&D staff much) . Do any of you have any helpful advice? Thanks!!!!! I am totally isolated from the L&D staff-where I will be working- and it's crazy......

I hope I haven't made a mistake
Well to a point I am going throught the same in my new L*D unit. The day shift folks are not that friendly. What's more the MAIN or people are orienting me and not even the people I will be working with. So I will have to get to know so many folks all over again.....I will be working Eves and nights. Getting up this am at five oclock and wondering: did I make a mistake?

New nurse in OR trying to find her place
Listen I am in the same boat sort of.....I am orienting in the L&D OR and the folks from downstairs (the main OR) are doing my orientation............the nurses I will actually be working with tell me just to have in there... (that the people on days and they are right) are so into themselves! They are so mean and sarcastic.........I am like wow thank God I will never work with you!

Night shift nurses...How many hours of sleep do you get?
I wouldn't really worry about depending on meds---see how tired you are. Personally, I have never had trouble sleeping in the day time. I have a situation similar to yours but I will be working 2 8's and 2 12's monday through thurs. nights. It was really for me, being an LPN, the only way to get back in to L&D (I had worked there years ago) so I took the offer......I am still really excited- because they have a great preceptor program, and are also training me to scrub in the OB Or. Let me know and keep in touch.

How important is Left side
that's a little distrubing if her midwife told her that. It has been my experience that CNMs are very up on safety issues and the like. IS she a CNM? Many times they are the first to pick up on something because they are so intune to all aspects of the women's health.

Bereavement f/u pp
I know from experience: I delivered at 27 weeks with twins......one of our girls lived four months and we have one very SPECIAL almost 19 year old that is perfect in every way. She was 1 lb 7 oz. She is getting ready to go off to college. Any way.....let me know if you need any one on one advice. Scarlett

LPN Physical: How honest re antidepressants
don't worry.....!

Do you have a Weasel at work?
Yea....I had one in a very small office.....but I did not really blame her! It was the MD( that was the next person on the totem pole) that I had NO respect for and that's when I started looking..........when my values are compromised, it's time to go.

"don't get stuck in women's health"
Yes! Glad to be here.......and I meant to say........"women are whole people" I had my first "second thought" today about changing after 7 years (jobs)....then I remembered all the great experiences in OB and thought: "oh that's right----I can't wait!" But I think it's normal going from a office to a teaching hospital to be a little nervous!

"don't get stuck in women's health"
Women are whole people---there is so much to learn--in so many ways. Take the job where you have a passion and the rest will fall into place.....
