  1. i just found out i am going to be going to john hopkins univeristy for my DNP. I will finish out the summer with my nursing classes and say goodbye to the hospital then move to Balt, MD. Has anyone completed the DNP through john hopkins?
  2. Has anyone ever attended john hopkins university school of nursing?
  3. im 28 and a very experienced nurse with a masters degree. Some really SNOTTY stuck up nurses can be just catty and uncalled for.
  4. what types of things do you do as a nurse to go above and beyond for your patient out of the kindness of your heart?
  5. where i work as he nightime supervisor at the hospital i have to be at that code when it happens. That becomes my priority.
  6. I studied for a good two weeks and passed my first time.
  7. i wish i had enough time in my day to do this but its more like a 20 min bath and then a list of things to do. but 3 hours would be awesome
  8. I AM SO EXCITED! I just had submitted a post about whether or not to go for PhD or DNP. I just read my mail. i have insomnia on my nights off. Go Figure because I work night shift... anyways...... I have been accepted to John Hopkins University!!!!!!!!! I am going to go for my DNP!!!!!!!! im so excited i cant help myself.... woo hoooooo:yes:
  9. Yeah sorry i wasnt so clear on what i wrote earlier because i am torn kind of between getting the PhD and DNP. So thats the "PREDICAMENT" I am in. For the PhD I would like to be an independent researcher. However, with a DNP there are a lot more jobs and ways to move up the clinical ladder. I am torn between both. So yes thats the " PREDICAMENT" I am in.

Yes LPNS are real nurses too. My sister is an LPN and shes proud of it. And im proud of her.
  11. So, what does a nursing professional look like? How does it act and behave? How can we, as nurses, become more professional no matter what or how many letters come after our name? A professional looks the part. Like it or not, the way you dress is important. You can be the sharpest tool in the shed but if you are covered in dirt, it will be hard for anyone to tell. Professionals spend the time, money and energy to look the part. Maybe it shouldn't matter, but it does. Sorry. A professional treats everyone with respect. Whether it's a colleague, patient, resident, or client, nursing professionals treat everyone in their nursing practice with dignity and respect. They see value in each person, no matter how high or low on the totem pole they happen to be. This is not always an easy thing to do, but it surely is always the right thing to do. A professional commits to life-long learning. School is never out for us, whether it's "automobile university" (listening to informative CD's in the car), always having a book on the go, keeping up to date with professional magazines or websites, attending personal or professional conferences, or simply by listening and learning from others. A professional does their best at what they are being paid to do. They are committed to excellence whether they "feel like it" or not; whether external circumstances warrant it or not. Can anyone with the right attitude be a professional in nursing? Yes. Nurses, you may have specialized nursing skills and training, perhaps more so than your lesser skilled colleagues. You invested more years in schooling and obtaining nursing education than some of your peers. But, what is to be gained by holding yourself high and making others feel low? Instead, what if we hold the bar high for everyone? If we treat everyone we work with as professionals and expect everyone to act like a professional in the realm of what they do, I would bet my last nickel we wouldn't be disappointed! So a number of questions beg to be asked: Are you a nursing professional? What could you do to act MORE professionally? Do you treat others professionally? What could you do differently to improve professionalism in your workplace? How would things be better in your workplace if you treated others more professionally? I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue
  12. Hey everyone, does anyone out there have their PhD in nursing? And if so what did you specialize in? Also where would you recomend going to school? I am in the process of switching schools. Any feedback would be very much appreciated I just want to make sure i am going in the right direction and not wasting money on a school that is not going to help me out which is in the prediciment i am in right now. Any advice is strongly encouraged. please thank you
  13. IM 28 I have a masters degree in nursing and im going for my PHD.
  14. I do not appreciate you questioning if i am an educator and questioning my profile. That is very rude and unappreciated. For your information i am an educator and a supervisor. Oh and by the way my sister does do assessments in wisconsin. End of discussion. In wisconsin Lpns CAN legally assess. In New York Lpns can assess. They just cant do the initial assessment. They can still assess and its supervised by an R.N. My students do assessments my LPN to RN/ ADN students do assessments with my supervision during clinical because i want them to gain experience and its a learning experience as well for them. So with supervision LPNS are allowed to do assessments. Again you are mistaken and i would appreciate you to quit with rude comments and questioning my education and profile. Its very rude and uncalled for. Please be civilized here.
  15. I want to thank you all for your input. This has been very helpful hearing other peoples advice. Thank you very much. Very helpful advice.
