I have never known anyone that has done this. I do know a professor with a PhD in microbiology who became a RN. He wants to get a Masters in public health.

I have three tattoos. Two are large and on my arms. When I worked as an aide in a LTC facility I didn't cover them and there was no policy saying I had to. When I became a nurse and started working in the hospital I covered them per the policy. None of my coworkers knew I had tattoos and I think they would be surprised to see that I had them. I don't really look like the kind of person to have tattoos (that is what I have been told). I think I come off more as a quiet librarian type. I HAD to have them covered in nursing school. I remember when I rotated in the OR and wore hospital scrubs they made a big deal about it. I lived in two different parts of the state. In the rural part it wasn't a big deal to have tattoos and most people had them. In the suburbs I get strange looks. The worst part of having to keep them covered is when your work is hot.

My first response was that it is inappropriate that you use your position to proselytize. Your students look up to you. They are also vulnerable in that they may feel like they have to agree with you or it will impact their grade negatively. If this is something that you feel strong about you should look for a religious educational institute. In my area there are a lot of Christian colleges and universities. This may be a good way of accomplishing your desire to teach nursing and Christianity. In a secular setting I think it is inappropriate and presumptuous to think students want to hear about your religion. You could offend students and jeopardize your job.

I agree that going for the money can bite you in the butt in the long term. I know nurses who went for money but when they wanted to move from their specialty they don't have enough experience for other things. Get the experience.

I think it really depends on where you live. As a new grad I was hired at a rural hospital on the tele floor (I was cross trained in the ICU). There was a RN shortage and not many nursing schools in the area. I moved to the suburbs of a large city. I worked in pediatric subacute (LTC facility). I now work at a Magnet Status hospital in the ED (I have no ED experience and only a ADN). They are giving me 5 years to get my BSN. I also had a job offer in a city hospital in the ED (Level 1 trauma center). I had really good references and relied on networking to help land the job. It is easier said than done but keep your head up. It is a tough job market even for experienced nurses. You may not land your dream job right away but it may just be a stepping stone to what you really want.

I second skillstat. I used it last week and it really helped. I found this from an old post about heart blocks: "If your R is far from P, then you have a 1st degree. Longer, longer, longer, drop...then you have a Wenckebach. If your Ps don't go through, then you have a Mobitz 2. If your Ps don't agree, then you have a 3rd degree."

A university in my area offers students an option to put $30 dollars down for a course. You then have until the semester ends to have your employer reimburse form the course or you have to pay. They also have an agreement with hospitals and community colleges to reduce tuition by 25%.

I am sorry you feel this way. My husband has been a RN for 15+ years. He has been looking for a new job and has put in 35 applications within the last couple months. I am a RN and it took me 27 applications to get 2 job offers. It is a tough job market all around. I don't know if there are prerequisites but a pre-hospital certification would be more relevant than getting your EMT. Hang in there. I know it must be frustrating to be in this position.

I agree that you should take it until job #1 comes through. I just had this same situation happen.

I talked with the nurse manager and HR again. I do have to pay for both. If I already worked there they wouldn't make me pay for it.

I loved the Kaplan question bank. I felt like I had the same questions on my boards as I did on the Kaplan test bank. I didn't go through the test bank for more than once.

I really like the Saunder's book but I do feel that Kaplan was more similar to NCLEX. I feel like questions I practiced with Kaplan were on my boards.

Lewistown Hospital in Lewistown, Pa. I know someone who got hired in the ER as a new grad.

I just got a job offer in the ED. The HR person said I need to have ACLS and PALS before starting in less than a month. My ACLS expired and when I got it my workplace paid/held the class. This hospital is large and has a residency program. I don't understand why I have to do this before I start. Under their resident's benefits it says they will pay/provide the training. Why wouldn't they do this for nurses. I cannot find a PALS class that starts before the orientation starts. There aren't many classes available on the American Heart Association site. Any experience with this?

I would go to the RN program. If you go to the LPN program and want to be a RN in the future you will have to take the boards twice.

I have heard that St. Mary has gone through some major changes lately. A family member of mine said that people who have been there a long time are leaving because they are no longer happy there. I take everything with a grain of salt. Where are you moving from?

I am sorry you feel this way. I have heard a lot of people have similar sentiments. Nursing wasn't what they thought it would be. You posted a very similar post almost a year ago. You titled it "I'm done with nursing". Do you feel the same way you did last year or worse?
