Most nurses have not worked in the "medical field" before working. Nursing is nursing.

I have been a nurse for seven years and so much has happened since my passing the NCLEX. It is something that nobody discusses at work. Serioulsly. Just take them again. The boards are nonsense and do not reflect nursing at all.

I worked the floors for four years and went to the ICU and have been here for two years! I do not regret my floor days! I loved it!

I have tremendous respect for LPNs but I don't believe they should work in the hospital setting. It is not about "doing the same tasks as an RN." It is about responsibility.

I have worked in a setting where they have nursing assitants and techs do the finger sticks and urinary output and help with washing patients. This was a 12 bedded ICU with 6 to 7 nurses. I now work in at 12 bedded ICU with 6 to 7 patients and we do not have any nrusing assistants. The nurses do everything and help each other. Also, this is an amazing ICU with teriffic nurses who are more than helpful. I like being the one to do everything for my patients. Sometimes nursing assistants do not understand the imortance of accuracy with certain things like urinary output and finger sticks. Also, they will not even change a pillow case without the nurse in the room if the patient is on a ventilator.

Columbia presbyterian has zero visitors from 6-8 on both shifts and no admissions as well!

Do not feel bad for them. They have a choice.

This is not a travel assignment if you are crossing a picket line. You will be transported into the facility in street clothes and transported back to the hotel where you will be staying. I personally hate unions because they brainwash people into this entitlement mentality and in the end, the patients suffer.

That is not a big deal. Believe me. You will be ok.

There is a fine line between desperation and excitement. Having two years of med/surg experience is wonderful and that is going to strenghten you in the OR. I wish you the best of luck. Let me know how it goes.

When you cannot get out of bed to go to work without dragging yourself, it is time to take some time off. Nurses are given vacation time and personal time and need to use it accordingly. If you come home from work and are still thinking about how much you hate where you are working, it is time to submit for a transfer. 12 hour shifts do not contribute more to burnout than 8 hours. It is the workplace that is difficult.

You need to leave the profession immediately.

did you experience any friction with nurse managers because you do not have a BSN? I ask because I havea a bachelor degree in Business and wanted to go straight to MSN and was told that not having a BSN would hurt me.
