I heard that you take one class over a span of 5 weeks. It is a flexible program ….not sure of the pass rate of FNP board exams. Check that because you don't want to go to school that has a lower pass rate than another :)

I would email them and let them know that you need one from a faculty. Then also add in a current resume! That way they can write you a accurate letter. :)

Hello there, this is an interesting post! I am sorry to hear you are maxed out in loans…what does that mean?? What is the max you can take out? If it is over 100,000. I would seriously advise you to not go for FNP. To be a FNP you have to become a RN first…yikes…that is a lot more school and you will be starting literally in a new field. It's going to take many years!!! Why are you unhappy with the phd? Is it the pay? If it is, some FNPS don't make as much as you think…..depending on which area you are in. You have a highly respected position and you have the highest degree!!! why change now? Give that career a chance!!! Work at least 5 years so you can pay those loans!

Hello All FNPs, I am a FNP student…and I spoke to a FNP recently who advised me to figure out where I want to work so I will pick that clinic during my last rotation. The thought process is that if you go to the clinic you want to work in the last semester they may offer you a job. With that said, I am confused at where I want to work. I've always had a gut feeling I like orthopedics? But there are so many options out there…….? Can someone please tell me pros and cons? For example, I heard dermatology is a great practice to get into….pain management is not. I am interested in flexibility? I am not sure if that exists but I want to know. THank you!

Hmm…60K of loans..is a lot! I would really consider taking this much of debt. Otherwise, yes it's no problem….because as a RN you are not learning how to diagnose and think from a NP perspective …you're thinking from a RN perspective…..yea of course you may have increased familiarity with drugs, etc. but otherwise..you have to think on a higher level!!!!

Hmm.. I believe PA school is the best route for you because you already have a bachelors…although you will have to take time to get all the prereqs in! (there are quite a few!) ….let me tell u something you may not know….since you already have a bachelors there are programs that let you get a bachelors in nursing in ONE year…(this doesn't count the prereqs) but i believe it doesn't make any sense for you to pursue a ADN…..then BSN…just go straight for BSN!!!

If you're in a fulltime program, it will be feasible to work. Don't worry. I wouldn't stress about moving to another position, but that depends on your perspective of stress! Congratulations by the way!!!!! It will all be nerve racking first, but don't let your job go when you feel overwhelmed….maybe go prn…that way if you feel u can pick up a full-time schedule u can! Where are you starting by the way

Hello All, So I am finishing my first year in FNP school….and it is a TExas school which is all part time..I feel that my school is dragging. It's a great school with amazing teachers but I wish it wasn't part time and it was full time I have to go a total of 3 years. I am not working and feel that I should have picked Georgetown which was full time only 21 months. The reason i didn't even apply was it is $77,000 I just want to know…if anyone else feels this way about their part time texas school? Or is it just me. Thanks

Hello All I am currently finishing my first year of NP school…I am doing well and have a 4.0. I stopped working couple of months ago but I feel I do have a lot of free time in my hands…. My clinicals start in August so I know it's going to get tougher! My question is..I have just got hired for a PRN med surg position that may include some travel..the travel part is my concern..though my requirement is to only work 2 nights a month..I probably will end up doing 6-10 shifts…. My question is…I may have to travel to areas that are an hour away..I spoke to my manager and she said it "Rarely" happens..and so did the scheduler lady... Do you think getting sent out of town once a month is nothing to fret about? Should i go for it? Or is it not worth it to work about 5 nights a month? That is about $2,000 a month we're talking about….?

Ned lol you mke a valid pooint!! I guess my last job the commute was 3 minutes by car….lol so I have a different view of things!!! I know that it's not a daily commute of an hour….only when they decide there is a need for a RN at one of the facilies which are each an hour away…!!!! So you don't know..when you will be going..THe minimum I have to work is 2 nights a month and my manager said one out of the two I will most likely commute... I am very sad because I am torn!!!! The manager is super nice and I got hired on the spot…..I feel like I can make a difference but then again working nights is hard too!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH this may sound dumb but I don't know what to do

I think you are brave and have made a wise decision….those who stay in their comfort zone don't get anywhere and you have two kids and are a single mother? WOW be proud!!! you are an awesome hardworking and daring person not willing to stay stagnant. I commend your willingness to move forward. I think feeling anxious is normal….as so am i at this time…i just got a new prn job that requires travel …and i am in FNP school….not sure if i should go forward with it because my goal is to work about 5 days a month….just to help my husband with mortgage…but he makes over 100,000 so I don't' have to work but I guess something his in my blood to work…lol I feel more productive..I don't have children and have a lot of free time even in fnp school!!!! But for years I wanted prn because the pay is more....at $37/hr…so its tempting..not sure what to do

Hello everyone so I have accepted a prn med surg position while i am in FNP school. The problem is …for some shifts which we won't know until the day of…..I may have to travel about an hour away. I am rethinking this. I don't think it's safe….as far as me doing nightshift and then traveling.. What do you guys think ? I financially don't need to work but I feel I can work at least once a week or so..but I am about to start clinical in the fall which will be more hectic than the online classes. I just want to work so I am not bored... My question is…if they cannot give me a PRN job that stays in town…should I just not worry and stay and home and focus on schooll?

So sorry to hear this…..I do have a suggestion…because I think bedside nursing is a valueable experience, I would advise you to consider night shift!!! It's a lot easier and you don't have to worry about managers, families, etc…even if you do it for 6 months or a year it will bring up your experience try to stay in for about 2 years... I don't think you're doing anything wrong but maybe the wrong floor or wrong shift

nights….7 p to 7 a…so much less stress I LOVED nights when i worked it but i started working lots of overtime and it killed my body…i mean my bladder would be confused/i was dehydrated..etc… so i went to work days 7 a to 7p for a year and got burned out…patients just don't really respect nurses….. so back to nights PRN hell yes!!!! $41 per hour not bad either

This article is true..though I am very skinny my fiancé's is not and his family is OBESSSED with weight….they are all obese not morbidly or anything but they are obsessed with it… and then they all look at me like I'm obsessed with being skinny lol but i am just me…it's in their head but every time my fiancee aunt comes around she says "your hips are getting bigger" your going to get fat soon (and I'm sure she has a evil cackle in her head)
