Exactly my thoughts. I just finally read the post of "40 years as an employee " I have seen many people terminated for the smallest things due to their age

If you got fired for that then there has to be something else going on? Is this a new job? Just doesn't make sense to me

I like the majority of the male nurses I work with. And some I do not like. Same as women nurses. Some I like. Some I don't :)

Yes. Me and the rest of the staff think it's a bit extreme. We r a level one trauma center. So we have tons of patients in and out daily. I think with the new "dizzy" protocol there were about 15 stroke alerts in one 12 hour shift. It was bananas!!

In your ER how do u handle stroke alerts?? What's your protocol. We call strokes on a lot of patients. Just recently we started calling a stroke alert on ANY patient over 65 with complaint of dizziness. Doesn't matter what kind of dizzy. If they say they are "dizzy". And "over 65" Automatic stroke alert to the ct scanner immediately. What are your thoughts on this protocol ? Thank you

I had a similar situation in the ED. Young healthy. No medical history. Came in said she had a "headache". Next thing i know I find her in the bathroom puking. I called the doc in right away Because I had a gut feeling about it. CT scan showed a large bleed. So u never know when it comes to a headache

Honestly I am not sure. My big thing in school was always asking the teacher what to focus on for the test. And review the chapters. I never really studied the powerpoints Sometimes there is so much info it is overwhelming. Maybe try and study little sections at a time then take a break. It was 9 years ago since I was in nursing school. I am sure a lot as changed. I do remember also reviewing NCLEX questions. And when I narrowed it down to two questions. Went with my gut.

When I was in school I would ask my teacher what to focus on and go from there. As for the studying part I would listen to classical music and take breaks every 45 minutes. For about 20 minute break. I usually ended up studying for a couple hours a day. I have a hard time concentrating when it comes to studying and lectures. Always having to get up or my mind goes someplace else. I swear by the classical music though!! It did help[emoji4][emoji4]

What state are u all in where it is hard to find a nursing career. Just Curious? :)

U can do it. My friend who was a PCA for many years in my ER just became an RN AND works in the ER. She is 45. U can do it!! And when I was in nursing school a 53 year went through the program and passed. Good luck

Today actually I hung a bag of saline on a young girl. The docs rational was because it is "just something to make her feel like we did something". Instead of just discharging her since she came to the ER.

We have a board in the break room. And people anonymously post what they want to learn about. For example I gave a PowerPoint on Hyperkalemia. And u got a CEU for attending the class. It was fun and nurses won prizes if they could answer the big questions. The management loved it. And so do the staff. I try to make it fun. Plus if there is food nurses will usually come. We did it on the hour. Turned out well. Next time we r doing one on Sepsis. We have a lot of new grads and nurses that have been there for awhile. Me and the clinician r trying to help everyone. And make it a more positive place. Obviously since the trauma center we work at is bananas !! [emoji4]

I take the student with me with no problem. I remember what it is like. I take u on a tour of my ER Trauma center. Introduce u to my friends. Most of the students r happy. Because we know u need to get your feet wet starting IV,foleys etc... Even go in a code and do compressions

When we have codes in our ED. (Which is everyday) IF I see the room packed with many RNs in it. I usually just stick my head in and say "do u need me to get something". Most of the time they r fine. Other times it is as simple as grabbing more stuff to start another IV, or tubing, or meds not in the crash cart.. Sometimes it is full of staff and sometimes I have been in a code where I'm yelling for help. Just never know

I am at a level 1 trauma center. During the day charge or float nurse covers you for a 45 minute break. On nights the nurses cover each other. So a nurse could be watching 10 pts while the other is on break.

It is not the people with headaches that bother me coming into my ER. It is the people who call 911 are 20 years old and have tooth pain for 2 weeks! Why can't they drive themselves or take an UBER?

I hear u with the "prego card". 🙄. Same at my place. About 5 of us were pregnant at once. It was annoying seeing some of them refusing to go in patients rooms for "cough" etc...some took way too much advantage. To the point where management will not allow a pregnant nurse to go on "light duty". A few prego princesses ruined it for the rest of us

I was prego working in the ER with both my pregnancies. From the beginning my co workers would say "no let me get that for u" or "no don't push the stretcher". Even though I was totally capable of doing it. I finally took off about 4 weeks before my schedule C section. It just all depends on your body and also talk with ur OB/GYN. For example towards the end of my pregnancy he wrote a note saying I could only work 3 eight hour shifts a week. My nurse manager was like OK cool. Every place is different. My ER is very cool to work at pregnant [emoji120][emoji12]. By the way congrats on becoming a mom! Best job u will ever have [emoji177]
