  1. I know this thread is old, but how did the oral surgeon's office work out? Are you still there and if you are do you like it? I would've gone w/the OS instead of LTC too. LTC experience will usually not get your foot in the door at a hospital and it sounded like the OS position would have been much more useful as a stepping stone into acute care. I have been thinking about going to work in oral surgery once I finish my degree so I'm interested in your experience there- thanks!
  2. I agree 100%. My older sister is a 2nd yr nursing student and I am starting nursing school this fall. She has told our mother that I have "no idea" what I'm getting into going to nursing school and that she doesn't see how I could possibly make it through because I have 4 kids. In our case, she has always felt the need to compete with me and the fact that I am now also in nursing school is really challenging her ego and sense of superiority over me. It's going to be really difficult for her to convince herself that she is #1 when we're on even playing fields. Personally, I have never understood why she's always been like this and it makes me really angry to know that my own sister, who is the only sibling I have, is hoping that I fail

Those look great! I wish my school's looked like that- we are head to toe in hunter green and I feel like I look like a custodian lol.
  4. At 26 years old you have plenty of life in you still :) I just got accepted to a program for Fall 2013 and I'm so excited! I first applied back when I was 20 and was not accepted and I've been working towards this on and off ever since. I'm 32 now and I have four kids ages 2-12 and I feel a lot better prepared to start now. I think if I had gotten into a program when I was only 20 I probably wouldn't have done so well because I doubt I would have been as mature and serious about the workload as I am now. When it comes to a program like nursing I think being an "older" student is a huge advantage. Good luck!
  5. Being overwhelmed, failing, paying for it, not being able to find a job afterwards
  6. It's for SUNY Adirondack- good luck @ Ellis; my sister goes there (evening/wkend program) and she loves it :)
  7. I got my acceptance letter!! One important thing: originally I was rejected by this school. I couldn't understand why because I met the minimum requirements and then some. So I sent them a letter pointing out what their requirements are versus what I had already done, and then I asked them to get back to me telling me exactly why my application was rejected and what I could do in the future to make it more competitive. I couple days later I got an email apology from them and they told me that I could go ahead and schedule an admission interview. I went to the interview and , as you already know, I ended up getting in. Turns out that they overlooked one of the pre-req classes on my transcripts. My point is- it never hurts to be the "squeaky wheel"; if I had just accepted their original rejection I wouldn't be starting nursing school this fall :)
  8. Me too :DDDDDD I'm going to the group session on 4/1- perhaps we'll be able to put names to faces then. Congrats and good luck! Here's to a crazy two years we're about to embark on
  9. Cayuga also has a Pre-Nursing program which I'm pretty sure you can do it all online
  10. I have also done classes through Cayuga CCC and I have really liked them. I've always been a non-matriculated student and registering has always been easy and hassel-free, they don't charge you to send your transcripts anywhere, and a transcript request can be done online as well. I can't say enough good things about it, and it's affordable SUNY tuition. One thing I will say is that even though the courses are online they are definitely not any easier than if you were in a classroom, but if you've taken online classes before you probably already know that. I'm doing Pharm this summer and I did A&P II this past Fall w/Dr. Forbes-Cardinelli and her class was tough BUT I learned a lot! Good luck!
  11. Day or evening program? Do you have a degree already? I applied for the day program I have a BS in counseling, at first I thought that would give me an advantage but from what I hear it's pretty common for people to apply there who are just like me. Did you ever look into Samaritan or Memorial? I really like those schools but I didn't want to take that TEAS test- ugh! Good luck- my sister started there this past fall she's in the evening/wkend program and she really likes it. She's been able to go to 2 surgeries in her med/surg clinicals so far!
  12. I think mine went pretty well. She said that I have a pretty good chance, we'll just see if I survive the final selection. She said since I'm not taking any classes @ ACC right now I'll probably hear in a couple weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed. The thing I think they may be concerned about is the long commute I would have. We will see I guess.
  13. So how'd it go?
  14. Ugh! I hope it's not as bad as I imagine it being. I'm not always so crazy about being interviewed, but at least we're 2/3 of the way to being accepted :) My sister told me that she heard some rumor about the program having a 5 year waiting list? Do you know anything about that? That didn't seem to make too much sense to me, because if they have people on a wait list like that why would they still be taking applications twice a year? I don't know much about the school bc I haven't done any of my pre-reqs there or anything so I'm completely out of the loop.
  15. It's too bad that LPN's are being phased out of the hospitals. I think it's because hospitals can hire techs for less money and they don't have to deal w/unions, but it's a shame
