Advice / guidance / counseling (and any encouragement!)
First of all, I absolutely hate to ask this, but I really need some suggestions because I am low on inspiration. Thank you in advance! I'm trying to squirm my way through Nursing Pre-reqs in upstate NY. My goal is to be a nurse (RN) / medic and work in an OR / ER / medevac unit. However, I'm stuck. I like at least 45 minutes from the nearest college and I am not able to move at this time. Plus, the expense of classes, books, gas, you name it, has me completely overwhelmed. I'm finishing up my EMT-B certs in a couple weeks, so I know I love the field, but I confess I'm getting very discouraged. Can anyone give me any advice about scholarships, minimizing expenses, or anything else at all that would be helpful? Sob stories, while not specifically helpful, are at least consoling. I know I can do it. Actually, I am willing myself to get there, this is just a bumpy spot and I could really use a hand. Thanks again!

Transfer student
Hello! Does anyone have an answer here? I want to transfer from my pre-nursing program in NY to a nursing degree program in MA (tuition is lower AND it's a better school). If I get my degree in MA would it be fairly simple to be registered as a nurse in NYS? Or am I just setting myself up for headaches. TY!

Landlocked
I just found this site, so please bear with me if I am posting in the wrong spot... I'm new! :) I am a pre-nursing student in a remote corner of upstate New York. It is over an hour drive to any college, forty-five to a grocery store, you get the picture. I would like to complete as many of my pre-nursing and nursing credits online as I possibly can, because with gas prices I can't really drive to school on a regular basis. I was enrolled in Excelsior College and I loved everything about it except the tuition. Simply put, I could not afford another semester with them without going way over my head in debt - before I was even in a nursing program! Can anyone give me some advice about other online colleges I can attend to get my inital credits, what programs to enroll in, etc? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! Encouragement is nice, too, because I am very discouraged. I've wanted to be a nurse since I was a kid, and my dream is getting more and more unreachable. Thank you all!

Question military spouse
I went to Excelsior.... it's a great college if you know EXACTLY what you want. Since you're military, I don't know how fees work, but it's quite costly (for an online school). Signing up for classes was always a hassle for me, but I loved the courses and my teachers were amazing! Info Lit. is easy... I finished the whole self paced course in about a week with a 99% overall avg. I would just take it from them, the trouble of getting the transcripts isn't worth it! :) Good luck!

Nursing students learn how to toughen up
I was "lucky" enough in high school that I never really needed to actually study - just read the passage and could get good grades. Now I don't know how to study or pace myself! I almost died cramming last semester. I hated myself for it, but I couldn't get out of the rut! No fun. :)
