let go during orientation, needs advice?
Before I was an RN I left a job where I was established and respected at a small company for a fortune 5 company. Biggest lesson I learned there is a big name is just a name. Stay where they treat you with dignity.

Hourly Rounding--pushing back
I like hourly rounding. But if my cna is not doing it too than I end up taking every one to the bathroom. And I don't have time for that.

PRN during FNP School?
As a nurse. Don't you see enough people that roll through the doors with out insurance? Go pto. But look into your own insurance. In you are a single male with no medical issues, it should be rather cheap. Cheaper than not having it when you need it. Love a cancer survivor at 29.

I have a dilemma
Pp I have a prior degree and I got my adn. First for cost, second for my gpa. As most CCs just look at your pre req gpa. Good luck!!

No more fingersticks in ICU?
Our protocol is changing just for PTs on pressors

Cost of your RN degree??
8500 for my ADN and I had a grant, and about 8500 for my BSN for which my hospital will pay about 6000 of. So my out of pocket. 2k.

What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?
I had a family call me ugly. And than when I left the room looking insulted they complained to my charged nurse. Are we not humans with feelings? I could of taken a confused patient calling me names. But this was a family member just being mean. Le sigh.

ASN With Second Degree
I did the adn and I already have a degree due to cost. People from my program got hired into the ER, but that just totally depends on your area.

Vacation scheduling
Mine is first come first serve. I would hate seniority based as I could never go on vacation I the summer.

Do you like working in neuro?
Ditto the above poster. Neuro can get very heavy. My last shift one of my main priorities was transferring out a chfer who was there due to ams. I had enough people screaming that were truly neuro patients to deal with a sundowning sick heart.

Starting an IV with Lidocaine or Not?
I have had plenty of surgeries too, and blood draws. I am an extremely pick poke. As long as the person sticking me listens to my no sticks to the AC rule I would not want to bother with lidocaine.

Should I wait to apply for a new grad position?
Start applying! You don't want to miss them either. Just let them know. After they hire you.

A Response from the OP on the issue (poor choice of words) on the concept of a ADN Vs. BSN
First. Congrats on getting back into to NS. Second to blame your failures on your learning disabilities? That's crap. This is college. Put your big girl panties on and get help. You had already failed a course, and should of known how get help. I say this from the perspective of someone with a LD that never failed a course and sat down with my teachers often outside of class to get help. In the real world of nursing getting help early and often is key. And third , ADN student can continue their education. They can even go directly into a MSN program.

ACLS this summer? Still in nursing school
Wait. Like the PP said it will expire. And without a license you would not be able to push any of the drugs used during Acls anyways. And if you need it. Your hospital will pay for it.

Can I be a nursing student at Piedmont or GRU while still attending UGA?
Hi There is a part of gru nursing in Athens. But it's is not part of uga. It's just a satellite of gru in Athens. And if you apply their there is no guarantee which campus you will be on. And you can always live in Athens and commute to Piedmont. But that's quite the haul. I know you probably really love your friends at uga. But the great news is. Your nursing cohort becomes like family too. Don't be afraid of leaving uga. And if a degree from uga is really important for you stay and than get a nursing degree after.

Dreading bedside report with The Interrogator
I love bedside reports. Give a quick sbar outside of room go in and go over important site and fluids running and get the hellz out. I find it cuts down on the questions because you can point out the important stuff.

Should I get my ACLS?
I would wait. If you need it for your job. They will pay for it. Most jobs just require Bls.

Dansko, Sorry, DO NOT GO WITH DANSKO
I am a nurse too. And I used sell shoes. When someone would come into the store and ask for the most comfortable pair of shoes we would never say " Nike" or "dansko". We would say. It's a individual preference. Ps. Love my danksos. Looking into my next pair. :)

100% sure I failed - stopped at 75

Nurses eat their young during report?
New nurse here too. I just go,from top to bottom. I make sure I know the dx and the main md and the date of the iv and of what the on going plan is. Some nurses are more picky than others. But you have to let that roll off your back and have your own plan. Another way to combat this is bedside report. So that you can go over the highlights and point out stuff to the on going nurse. And know when the last time pain meds where given. And what type. My last off going shift I had a pt that was off the cuff confused. I did all I could do to not have him fall. I know the on coming nurse looked at his bed like I was a bad nurse because the draw sheet was out of sorts. But she was not there. I was. I did not let her looks bother me. I just stated the facts. And gots the heck out of dodge without look back.

Want To start A Petition-Any advice?
Coming from a horrible speller. First spell Check your post so people take you seriously. Second. Pick a topic that people will actually sign a petition about. Third. So you do have enough to worry about in the UK or is it utopia?

Stories of the pre-vaccine days
I had a patient whose parent died during the Spanish flu epidemic. ~30 million people died during this epidemic. More than people than durning WW I. Or during the 4 years of the Black Death.

From IT to RN and now back to IT/IS
Love this update I also did IT. Military and retail contracting. Mostly db creating and maintaining. Went into nursing because I was getting sick of contract work. I am enjoying my current position (neuro, spine). But one always has to have their eyes on what's next. (Contracting taught me that).
