Lifespan Psych - an observation
I am in lifespan now and I find the course extremely educational and fulfilling. We are spending the last couple of weeks discussing death and dying, and I feel like I've grown emotionally. I am certain my development with the subject will help me be a better nurse!

Merritt College Fall 2016 Reviews
Hello, I received a letter yesterday indicating that I met their requirements and I was moved to the next stage of the process. The next step entails submission of TEAS V scores. They are going to offer the TEAS V in early May. I've already taken the TEAS, so I need to submit my score. I have a close friend who graduated from the program in 2012. She said the program was grueling; however, she pulled it off and is happily working as an RN.

New ATI TEAS exam allows calculator
I wouldn't put too much stock into the new test. For all you know, the newer test may be more complex. I'm imagining more algebra and word problems. I guess we will hear more about it in the future. I did excellent in math and science; however, I'm curious to know if they will reign in science. It's a bit all over the place with a smaller emphasis on anatomy/physiology. My rough spot was reading comprehension, so I'd like to know how that section may or may not change. We will see!

Statistics
I am getting ready to take my teas v and I can see how I was helped tremendously by my stats course. You will learn which graph is relevant to the data you wish to present. Second, you learn how to truly interpret/analyze graphs/numbers based on given parameters (this is not as easy as it sounds). Also, the scientific method requires that one use quantitative data to support their hypothesis. If actual mathematics was not used (in the form of statistics), our scientific descriptions would simply be qualitative in nature. How would we advance as a people without real data? You will learn so much more from your statistics course; however, I just thought I'd provide with a description of how the class will help you in the very near future as you prepare for teas v.

TEAS V: What you should use to study
I think your passage about Keshwani is persuasive in nature! Seriously, I love the guy. I first heard about him here and decided to give him a shot. At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to endure the guy for 50+ days; however, the strangest thing happened. To my pure astonishment, I found myself looking forward to his videos day in and day out. He is a freakin (his words) character. Anyway, I just want you to know how much I agree with you. Keshwani for president! I will join you in campaigning for him. To anyone else afraid of math, please look him up on youtube. He works out of the teas v handbook and walks you through every page in the math section. Also, congrats on your stupendous score! I am due to take my teas soon, and I'm finally feeling like I can tackle the test. I've been so fearful and had to dig as deep as I could emotionally to muster up the courage. Now, I am ready to put it behind me. I am happy to hear you mention that the real exam is easier than the on-line practice tests. They truly killed my confidence. I've since tightened up areas of improvement and will continue to do so for the next week. Go Keshwani!

Online assessment seems harder than practice assessments in the ATI study manual
How did it go? I hope you aced the test!!

Did anyone find anatomy easy?
I did not find anatomy easy; however, it wasn't unbearable. It is heavy on memorization, so if you are great at that, it may feel easier. My physiology class by far was the most difficult. I considered physio my thinking class; Simply memorizing facts does not work (at least not at my school). I understand you may be concerned they aren't properly preparing you, but maybe memorization is just something that comes easily to you!

Online assessment seems harder than practice assessments in the ATI study manual
I took my first online exam a couple of weeks ago and was nowhere near where I want to be. I have heard from most people here that the online test is more difficult than the actual exam; however, I don't want to take any chances. I am continuing to study and will take my second on-line exam in about 1 week. I would highly suggest jredo2617 consider the online practice tests. I wasted a good couple of minutes acclimating myself to the online test, and from what I've heard in terms of computer technicalities, it is pretty much the same.

Do i have a chance at nursing
Of course, you have a chance! If you want this, keep your foot on the gas pedal and try your hardest to pull out A's. I was a returning student in 2012 with a non-science GPA in the mid 2's. When it was all said and done, I finished my last semester with a 4.0 in my science courses and a 3.91 overall. I assessed what I did wrong when I was a student long ago and made the necessary changes. I wanted (and still do) to be a nurse so badly, and I wasn't going to allow anything to stand in If you want this, you can do it too! Good luck!

Weeding Out.
Of course there is a *weed out* taking place; however, there isn't a conspiracy going on. Simply put, the professors are saying the rigors of the science(s) weed out students. It is one thing to say you want to be a nurse and a different thing to walk out the journey. Students step into their science courses unprepared for the level of commitment they must invest. The journey of becoming a nurse is grueling, as it should be; everyone is not meant to be a nurse. As far as school being easier *back then* as opposed to now. There is absolutely NO WAY I would have been able to go back to school 20+ years ago. The internet has made it possible for me to stay home, study and take care of my family. There was no khanacademy or any of the other countless resources available to my fingertips. My hat goes off to anyone who obtained their nursing degree prior to the internet!

TEAS V - How to tackle?
I am due to take my TEAS in a couple of weeks. I have been studying for over a month, and I have also taken chem. Based on the ATI handbook I would say that the chem portion is front end concepts. Meaning, you will not need to go through an entire semester to understand chemistry on the TEAS. Most of what I've read in the manual (ionization, bonds, balancing equations) is covered during the first several weeks of a chem class. However, do not underestimate chemistry, because it can be a tad difficult to grasp at first. Go to youtube and search for anything you do not understand and then make sure you can apply the concepts. The good news is that I've heard there aren't a ton of chemistry questions, although there are different versions of the test, so you never know what you are going to get. Good luck!

A&P1 during Disney vacation or in the summer
I never missed a single one of my science courses. Two weeks is a long time! Have you considered going to Disney over summer? If that doesn't work, I would NOT miss two weeks of class and then spend a majority of your vacation studying. Let's face it, you probably will be too distracted and once you return, you will pay the price. As the saying goes, if you want to play, you've got to pay. Also, keep in mind that summer classes can be grueling. You literally will eat, sleep and breathe A&P for six solid weeks and that may be tough with 3 kids. If it were me, I would postpone the vacay until summer! Take care and good luck!

Took the TEAS V
Hello again! I am studying like crazy. I want to let you know how much I LOVE Keshwani. How freakin (his word) funny is he? I had zero clues that I would grow to enjoy his videos so much. I worked on each video for about 30 days. I can't recommend him enough to others afraid of math. Lifesaver! Back to studying, I go. EDIT: SORRY!! I just re-read the thread and I already responded!! I am losing it, I tell ya!

Took the TEAS V
Hello, sadieb95 Thank you for the feedback! By the way, I LOVE Keshwani. I am finally at my last two videos. At first, I didn't think I would like him much, however, I am SO happy I gave him a shot. He is hilarious. I found myself looking forward to his videos each day. I also learned some super quick and easy tips with multiplying decimals quickly. He is amazing. Do you remember work rate questions on your test? For example, Jim can paint a room in 1 hour and Sally can paint a room in two hours, how fast can they paint the room if they work together? Also, did you have a math question involving probability? For example, what is the probability of rolling certain number, or picking up a certain marble, etc.? THANK YOU!

teas prep help, Adkins Academy
She scored in the 80's. She has nursing school friends who went and swore by the course as well. Take a peek at their Yelp reviews. Their reputation is nearly impeccable. There are reviews from people from Northern California. My friend said it is not uncommon for people to fly down south for the course. Have you signed up for your test yet?

teas prep help, Adkins Academy
Hello, Marley31. I am taking the ACLS course in Southern California the week of 2/1. I do not live in Southern California. However, I am going to stay with my sister in West Hollywood. I hadn't heard of ACLS until my friend, who is in nursing school called me to say that I should take the course. I have been studying quite a bit. However, I do get a bit of test anxiety, so I believe the classes will be helpful. My friend was extremely adamant that I sign up, and at first, the idea seemed crazy. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that the cost of $499 was a decent price. My hope is the classes will be totally worth the cost and if not, the cost won't destroy me either. I trust my friend, and I am looking forward to the time away. I take my actual TEAS V on 2/6 (the day after I return). I'm going to be tired, but extremely ready to get this all behind me. I'm doing my best to stay in a great head space and be confident in my ability to do well!

Took the TEAS V
Congratulations! You must feel so relieved, and I have to say how much I wish I were you. I am a wreck! I have been studying off and on for about one month, and I am afraid of the math portion. I don't feel strong in math. However, I am trying to stay calm. I've reviewed many, many youtube videos. Here are my questions: 1. was the test more or less difficult than the ATI study guide tests, 2. Were there a ton of math word problems, 3. How tough was the science portion, 4. How long did you study, 5. How confident did you feel going into the test? Thank you! Now breathe! You did an awesome job on your teas v!

Aspiring RN student!
CONGRATS! You will be so happy you started one year from now. Slow and steady wins the race, UNLESS you are in a huge hurry. Try your best to get all A's in your pre-reqs. This is more easily achievable if you take your core science courses one at a time, unless you think you can handle two. GOOD LUCK!
-
I feel like a failure.
What is the rush? I had to ask myself the same tough questions, and I am way older than you. :) I agonized over the decision to take 1 additional year to finish up my pre-reqs. I looked around and noticed classmates doing two Science(s) at a time, and was really caught up in their time schedule. The goal was to get into nursing school as soon as possible. I had to honestly ask myself, "what is the rush"? I ultimately decided to slow down, and I am pulling all A's in my core Science class (chem, anatomy, and physio). Some of my friends that rushed and took on two sciences at a time, ended up with c's and b's, and some of them have still not gotten into a program. Some regret rushing, because their grades are not as high as they would have wanted. Yes, there are students that can take on two Science(s) at a time and excel, and that is awesome! The point is, we have to know ourselves. Sometimes we have to push ourselves harder than we ever have, and sometimes we have to know when to pull back, just a tad. You will live a very long life, and in the big picture, taking one extra year during this point in your life will feel like it flew by! Good luck!
-
How long did it take you finish your prerequisites?
I started off slowly in Fall, 2012. Once I got the hang of school, I picked up a heavier load. I then made the decision to take my sciences separate. With that said, I will finish with my last pre-req, micro, next semester!! I took classes to cover both cc's and bsn programs.

Chem Is Not My Favorite
I have taken both anatomy and physio, and LOVED them immensely! Granted, they were tough courses, however I had zero problem with eating, sleeping, and breathing those two classes. I received A's in both. I am nearing completion of pre-reqs, currently taking CHEM, and I have micro left next semester. The truth is, I HATE CHEM! Honest to goodness, I can't focus in class to save my life. I can't quite put my finger on the problem. My professor is a bit disorganized, and I have learned that my brain works best with professors that are more methodical in their teaching. The class is 2x's per week, and late in the evening. There is absolutely so much to learn, and my brain and attitude towards the class isn't the best. Am I losing my mojo as a student, OR is it simply the subject matter? Has this happened to anyone else? THANK GOODNESS I didn't take chem prior to anatomy and physio, because I may have ran the other way. The semester is almost over and I am counting the days. More than likely, I will end up with a B, and I am fine with that at this point. :) Bye, Chem!

Will I ever get accepted to nursing school? How?
Keep your head up! At my cc, we are not allowed to repeat a class if we receive a C. Because of that, I know of people flunking out, just so they could have another shot at the class. Talk to a guidance counselor to figure out your options. IF, you can retake micro, please do. It is an excellent way to boost your GPA and sharpen your skills. I bet you will do awesome!

Should I take general biology
I may not be the norm, however I have made it through both anatomy and physiology without the basic bio course. I received an A in both classes, however it was hard work. There have been times that I wished I had started from the ground level. At this point, the requirement for the basic bio has been removed and I wonder if I should take it anyway. I think it all depends on the school, but for me, I managed without it!

Any older students?
I don't know how much of our memory can be attributed to our age. I'm sure there are studies out there, however I see students in their early 20's forgetting everything! They scramble around far more than I ever do. I have moments where I wish I started a few years earlier, however I know my life has worked out perfectly. We have several advantages to being the *older* students. Most often, we know what we want and do not have time to mess around. I've made great friends with the younger students and they are awesome. We have a mutual respect for each other. I will say that, typically I perform better than they do and it could be my effort, I am not sure. I have 2 kids in middle school and I plan my study/homework sessions around their schedules. I do best when I do school work while they are away at school. Unless it is finals, I typically put in a good several hours each day studying while they are gone and then try my best to put my school work away in the evening so that I can connect with the family. You can do it! Good luck!
