Also nursing homes are much different than hospitals.. I did my clinicals at nursing homes, and it is a chore just to find sterile gloves! They did not perform sterile technique to my knowlege.

Can you find out what the statistics are for your facility pertaining to HAI? Also how long has this LPN worked there - it would seem to me if she has worked there for years, and does a lot of caths... they would have been on to her by now.

I can only tell you what they had during my clinicals. There should be one book exclusively for wounds. All residents that have wounds are in there, and you document everything concerning the wound and care there. Just like they have one book for bowel movements, there's a wound care book. You probably know this already, but that's all I know. I haven't worked in a facility yet.

They must do this a lot. A fellow student in my LPN class knew someone in the facility who suggested that she work there as receptionist while in school, get license and transition to nurse. That's exactly how it worked out, in that order. She just got her license and is now training. . It really pays to know someone, even to get hired as a receptionist is hard, this woman was a supervisor of some sort in that facility. I really wish that I knew someone like that,but no such luck!

What about a refresher course? Try not to be so hard on yourself, your heart seems like its really in nursing. . You would be a great asset to the patients, just think how many people are missing out on you. Don't waste anymore time try and make a plan for success.

My school was infamous for changing the rules mid stream, it was very frustrating. We had to pass a math test that was separate from our pharmacology, but taken during the same course. On the math you had to get 100%, but had many many times to keep trying to get that 100. I did get it on the first try and the few that did not got it on the second try, so that worked out. But from the beginning to the very end, there were fumbles from soup to nuts, and we only received a syllabus the first class which was A & P after that no syllabus, and we asked for it multiple times throughout the course. :/

I totally get what you're saying. It seems like it is very competetive - that some of these "know it alls" is what I call them , are always trying to one up eachother, in this case even the professor! It's really difficult, but sorry to say that I dealt with it for the entire time in class. Glad it's over, just try and find one person who will stick by you and be good to be around. Try to tune the rest of them out. Good luck.

I just graduated LPN BOCES full time nursing program. We had a mixed group - quite a few with a lot of college, seemed like they thought they were too good for the program. Although a mixed bag, it definitely felt like the EGOS were HUGE. Very COMPETETIVE bunch, hostile atmosphere, childish bully tactics, that were under the radar. I graduated with the award for the top overall average, ( I tied this one student who thought she was the smartest thing ever, and has a business degree) believe you me, I paid the price for that. The hostility toward me was unreal, they excluded me from any type of extra curicular activities/parties/get togethers. I am 50 years old, and even in highschool, it wasn't this bad. It was a sorry place to be, and I couldn't wait to get out of that classroom. Thank goodness I had one young female student that stuck by my side, very nice girl, she helped me get through it. Nursing school is very demanding, stressful with studying, tests, and loads of material at a very fast pace. I really didn't need this extra trash with these immature- mean spirited - egotistical meanies! Vent over! P.S I am a CNA too, but did homecare.

I am happy to announce that I passed my NCLEX-PN! Also that the trick worked for me. When I signed into Pearson Vue straight after I got home from testing this past Wed. I got the pop up that said something like " you can't register for this exam at this time, you have already registered please contact your state board of nursing." So it does work. I was skeptical because some people posted that they got a different message that included that "you have already passed this exam" so I was doubtful. I guess either one of these two pop ups is "the good pop up" YAY!!!

I kind of get the impression that DUDERNGUY was knocking the BSN program - opposed to knocking the nurses that actually graduated from it. It comes across to me that what's been said is that there needs to be an improvement in the program - that perhaps there is profit being made regarding the fee for the degree, and that it could stand an improvement. I do think that Spanish as a second language is a great thing to learn, and agree that it is a very common language spoken in our country. I wish I would have paid more attention in high school. :/ I just graduated from an LPN program - the ten month program, and am waiting to here if I passed the boards.. took it yesterday. I commend everyone here who have taken their education seriously and who have achieved their goals! I wish I was younger - I am 50 years old!
