  1. I've worked at two of the two of the hospitals in downtown St. Paul, after working in Baltimore, Maryland. Currently studying for my BSN at a very nearby college in St. Paul. In saying so, I've felt incredibly safe in Lowertown. My initial intention was to acclimate to Minnesota's urban life for one year, then move to the comfy suburbs. To-date, I'm quite content being a 10-minute bike ride-- or 15-minute walk-- away from work. I don't actually know much about the Minneapolis area; Hopefully, someone else can advise you regarding those areas. (The following notes the state of my neighborhood before COVID and present-day civil unrest.) Lowertown has lots of options for luxe living, whether that be apartment or condo style. You'd be close to bars and nightlife (albeit less than downtown Minneapolis). There's a grocery store, Lunds & Byerlys, and local farmer's market available within walking distance. Lots of bus routes pass through as well, if you choose not to drive. My favorite feature of the neighborhood has to be the cycling routes along the Mississippi River, connecting me to various parts of the Twin Cities.
  2. Good question. I am curious as well. How are you getting on at NCC? I'm interested in starting there.
  3. Did you make it into NCC? If so, how is the program going so far? Normandale is my preference school for the coming fall cycle.
  4. I'm considering the Adult program at Concordia. I was initially looking at the MANE program via Metro State, because of the cost. But I am discouraged by the negative reviews from students who have gotten into the BSN portion of the program at Metro. I have so much of my prerequisites completed that I feel Concordia could be a good fit; I love the idea of it being year round. I've signed up for an info session as you have suggested. How have things been for you at Concordia thus far?
  5. Thank you for being so thorough. Checking Amazon in this instant.
  6. It couldn't hurt to do so... but everyone's circumstances will be different
  7. The lectures are as early as 8 or 830am and future clinical at the hospital could be as early as 730am. I'm working full time so far. Friday saturday Sunday, so 36 hours full time. If it gets too hectic I'll probably drop to 24 hours. They'll discourage working, of course, but when that's a necessity you find a way to make it work. Planning to enter for fall 2016?
  8. I was able to find my fundamentals text at the public library. I'll just have to keep extending the reservation to get through the semester. Even so, Thanks to that and a combination of the websites above. I brought my original price of $700+ down to less than $140!!! All the exact, up to date books i need for class and clinical. Thank you all.
  9. Orienting tomorrow! Here begins the journey...
  10. My last job we wore any color, any print. During that time i opted to wear my own personal uniform: fuchsia scrubs. It helped my dementia patients to remember i was someone they could trust. Now, with my new company, we wear a mandated grey. I find myself longing for bright variety.
  11. That's right, September 10th. I'm just getting started. We basically have to take forms to the Dr, labcorp, etc..have them sign then upload the paper to certified profile, right?
  12. Orientation in a week and a half. .. Having luck getting everything needed for certified background?
  13. Last fall i took micro along with Socio and chem and aced all three. (I took A&P 1 & 2 as solo classes but became lax and left with Bs in both. ) i put the pressure on myself to get those As by recording the lecture so that i could listen to it on my commute before the next class meeting (this helped to remind me of what was last discuss). The night before class i reviewed my notes. Our class also had online features for quizzes and homework along with the textbook. I used the software to practice the material until i got it right. Any wrong answers, i took note of them as added material to my lecture notes for review. I didn't wait for the last minute to study for exams since i habitually looked at the books a minimum of every other day. If you can, see if you can get the same professor for you lab. He/she will be consistent in what is expected for you to pass the course. That semester micro took top priority in my studies, then Socio, then chem . Best wishes!
  14. I'm in a similar position. Just hired for PCT on a busy Tele floor on night shift and start my ADN this fall. To be honest, I'm nervous but it's my only option and i cannot reduce to part time. a lot of posters on the site have stated that you must have excellent time management and organization... I'd say go for it. Full time position and get job orientation out of the way before you have to focus on class. Hopefully by August, you'd have a job routine set and familiarity with your unit. Right now, I'm not overwhelmed but like you, it's something I do worry about.
  15. When i started at the nursing home i worked Saturday-Sunday 16hr shifts at night. I'm at a hospital now and i work Friday to Sunday on night shift. Great shift differentials and i can focus on school Monday to Thursday, Friday as an off day/library day.
  16. I called wgu and was told that if i have accepted an Rn position, (even if i just graduated, took the NCLEX,) i can be accepted.
  17. I got my letter in the mail super late. Like 2.5 weeks after i saw my status online. That's why i check SURFS much more often than my snail mail. Once i see "acceptance" online then I'll check the mail for the physical letter. I'm sure yours will be in the mail soon
  18. No news yet. As of next week, i have to move forward with my backup school... you know, just in case. Still, we have until the first day of class to receive acceptance from UMSON.
  19. I'll be working full time. Friday, Saturday, Sunday. It's a necessity. What about you?
  20. You can also check on your student profile/inquiry to see if you were exempt. I was exempt since i took the equivalent at another college.
  21. I've transferred from another university out of state so a lot of my pre requisites were complete; the psychology, pre 100, biology. ..all complete on my end. Pre 100 is a freshman course, like intro to college (if that makes sense) whatever you haven't completed, you can do during the summer session before we begin. On the same note, if you got in, you must have completed all your pre requisites already. Brittany didn't let me apply until i completed everything. If there's still a lot of confusion on your end, i suggest sitting with one of the advisors so the can confirm what you've taken or haven't taken before summer sessions begins.
  22. I'm in; will i be seeing you there this fall?
  23. Check your email! I've got something! Will let you know my status once i read it all.
  24. I didn't ask since it wasn't nursing.
