How does the title of this thread have anything whatsoever to do with your question? Here I think I'm clicking on a post where someone needs advice and maybe I have something to offer. Yes to this one. I have had babies where the parents want me to do this also. And you are right, it is because that is what the baby is used to and the baby is comfortable like that. I was just always sure to have enough sleep so I never accidentally fell asleep. And I never did. When I am in a home and parents ask me to do something that is out of the normal (which is hard to tell what is out of the normal since you are in a private home and not a hospital setting), I always went by this rule: I would only do or behave as I would if my supervisor was to walk in the room. So if I'm sleeping and she walks in the room, well obviously that is a huge no no and she should really fire me. But if I'm laying with the baby with my eyes wide open and totally awake and my boss walked in, she would understand what is taking place. Another thing I always did, and this was just to cover my butt because you never know how people are going to be (especially when you are in their home and not a hospital setting), was when I laid with the baby, even though I was right next to her so she could feel me there, I would have her covered with a blanket and NEVER cover myself. Always had the door open also.

What you do with your paycheck is not my business. FOR EXAMPLE: let's say we have an alcoholic. He/she pays for his/her alcohol with their paycheck, right? Okay, now instead of paying that person and letting him make his own choice of what to do with his paycheck, (which, by the way, is HIS right), how would you feel about cutting out the middle man and just buying his alcohol for him? Their IS a difference.

ONCE AGAIN, there are laws currently in place that businesses have to follow. Making me pay for your birth control should not be one of them and it isn't. In THIS case the business owners "preference" is his/her right to their religious freedom. Your generalized questions, such as what I believe the government can't/shouldn't make laws about is not helpful to this conversation... we are discussing ONE SPECIFIC aspect.. which is the courts decision.

People (other people; this is not directed at you, Student Mom) keep asking the same questions over and over again in different ways, maybe some examples will help them understand or at least accept the views of others; and maybe some illustrations and coloring books will help others who do not seem to understand the words. Do you honestly believe if you continue to fight about this issue that you will be changing any minds/beliefs/religious views? Instead of posters behaving like they have been victimized by this court decision, maybe it's time to agree to disagree. But if they'd prefer, they can continue pestering the people who don't agree with them and I, for one, will be more than happy to keep explaining the same thing over and over again until it sinks in. Be a big girl and go buy your own birth control.

Who's freedom of choice? You and I already have the freedom of choice. If you want to use birth control, use it. It's not my business and I don't care. How are employers dictating your reproductive choice? Does the employer tell you when you can and can't have sex, who you can and can't have it with, how many children you should or shouldn't have?? This makes ZERO sense. "Corporations are entities that make money from the sweat of people's backs"...... REALLY?? All of them huh? So if your mom and dad had a little mom and pop store, they are a corporation that makes money from the sweat of your back? Should the government come in and tell your mom and dad, "Hey, screw your religious freedoms, even though you built this business with your bare hands and have slaved and slaved to keep this business.... we are making you provide birth control to your employees!" Well, poor mom and dad, they are just another corporation that makes their money from the sweat off OUR backs. A free economy is what our economic system is based on, that means business, if there were no big business we would not have jobs.

OH! Well duh, my bad. I was concerned for a minute that we had a nurse tying things around babies' necks. You never know, there are some real looney tunes out there.

Please report this woman to the State Board of Nursing, even if it's anonymous. Think of the other nurses she will be allowed to continue to do this too after you leave. Because of her negligence something very bad is bound to happen. Isn't there some statute that says we must report something like this.... it's considered negligence. What if something happens a year from now and someone brings your name into it, saying you knew this was going on and did nothing about it.... even then it could still come back and haunt you. Reporting her is not out of revenge or in any way spiteful, it's to protect patients and other staff members. This is just bad.

How can you say business are not people? If you started a business and it is your business, how is it okay for the government to tell you that you MUST provide birth control to employees? That is YOUR business an this is a free economy. Nobody is forcing the employee to stay there; if they don't like what the employer has to offer, move on. My business, MY freedom of religion.

Here, let me help you understand better. His insistence on forcing down our throats so many times that he USED TO BE a police officer is to assert his power. OP, we aren't so stupid as to roll over and let you or anyone else behave in a threatening manner like you do when you post. We have educations; we didn't just roll off the back of the turnip truck and now we spend our days slapping band-aids on people and stepping on their toes and touching them when they don't want to be touched. Part of our education is knowing what is considered assault and what is considered battery. And even better, some of us also know OUR own rights. If you want to do some good instead of coming on here and trying to scare and harass people, why don't you talk about how dangerous nursing is for the nursing staff, how often WE are abused by patients and family members? You CLEARLY have mental issues to praise nurses in one sentence and then threaten ALL OF NURSING (apparently, since your posts are not very specific) with arrest. You are clearly disturbed and pointing your anger in the wrong direction. I really don't care if you used to be a police officer, or if you used to be the queen of England, you don't scare me.

Oh yeah, that is a bad one. I hate being put in that position.

amoLucia, I understand where the OP was coming from, your original post did seem accusing. But after reading this response I now also understand where you are coming from. I see now, and she probably does too, that you meant well and did not mean to offend. Others could learn from your example; your apology and explanation was thoughtful and I'm sure the OP appreciated it. Shoot, I forgot to quote your response, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

I went from working in LTC with many patients to working agency home care; they say "You are only taking care of one patient"; this is their reasoning.

Unfortunately Nursing is one of those careers that works by supply and demand. There may have been a shortage in your area when you started school, then there's always an overflow of them. It's an endless circle. It also doesn't help that this supply and demand plays a HUGE part in the pay rate. With my 16+ years experience my pay rate continued to decrease in the last couple of years where I am at because there are too many of us. Just 10 years ago I was paid $10 more per hour than what I am currently making. Some places pay for your experience and some don't. I am currently paid like I just graduated school. The law of supply and demand can be a cruel witch.
