I attended this university about 2 years ago for my RN to BSN, I personally enjoyed the university. All the classes were manageable and all the staff including the chair of the program would help me whenever needed even as an online student. I was just accepted into a Family Nurse Practitioner program at a different university, but I had no issues with transferring my credits since it is an accredited university. In conclusion I would recommend this program, good luck!

Did you accept the offer or end up in another program?

I am hopefully starting October 1st at spring arbor, did you not have any contacts before starting the program or is it really that hard to find sites? I already have one np setup. Thoughts about the program?

I had my interview for a telemetry floor just a few months ago. They know you are a new nurse, my interviewers just acted like it was a normal interview for any other job. Like what is your goal for the next five years kind of questions (trying to see if you are committed to that facility). A lot of questions on how I communicate in certain situations or what I would do. Not truly nursing related. More like safety questions I guess. Just relax and be yourself :) you will do great! Good luck! I start next Monday on my floor as a brand new grad :)

Ya....a six shift orientation just sounds like they are setting you up for failure! I would have asked for a longer orientation to make you feel more comfortable with the whole job/department in general.

Brown Mackie in general is just a bad school. I suggest you look elsewhere. Very bad reputation at least where I live. (Northern Indiana) State board of nursing even looks down on them.

I'm guessing you are taking the exit hesi or something similar? Only 4 out of 15 passed our exit hesi and thank god I was one of them. My advice is study the hesi book, Saunders, and even look into nclex mastery (iPhone/android app). I had to take it twice to pass but I did it and so can you! And I passed the nclex :) good luck! Start studying the hesi book. Entrance exam means nothing towards nursing knowledge. My school actually requires us to pass the exit hesi of at least an 850 or higher. Only 4 out of 15 of us passed and graduated (the others do graduate till they get that score). One other source that really helped me was my iPhone app nclex mastery. Tons of base knowledge that you need to know that I saw on each class hesi.

Was answering question about higher level hospitals in the US. That is all.

RNs are actually replacing a lot of LPNs at least in the US because it puts the company/hospital at a higher level. You are able to get a RN in 2 years. Why not?

I could not find a good ekg map online, but our machine at the hospital has a button with color coded dots on it to match up on where to put each lead. It's that easy.

Performing the ekg is super easy. As an RN now we will look at the strips during the shift, but a 12 lead is seen by the nurse, but diagnosed by the doctor. As nurses and aids we do not diagnose. If you want to get further knowledge about reading ekgs just look up like the top ten most common strips and that will give you a baseline of knowledge, but you are not the one telling the patient what is wrong. Hope this helps.

I was trained on the job to do ekgs as an aid. No certificate required just a couple of sign offs by coworkers. It really does add to your resume though if you confidently know how to do a ekg. Good luck!

I used Kaplan for studying for the nclex and all my scores including the diagnostic and readiness test was in the 60s. Guess what? I passed at 110 questions ? Good luck!

The only time I truly shadowed nurses was when a hospital wanted to hire me for two different departments and they wanted me to follow a nurse from each floor. Doing this they figured I would stay longer on the floor I liked the most. I start in a week :). I'm excited to land a job on progressive care (telemetry unit). Good luck to you!

I applied after because they want your license number, but you can actually do everything but the license number and jump right in. I am waiting 3 months till I start so I can focus on my new grad orientation which is pretty intensive. Good luck!

Only certain states you can check the board of nursing the next day. It truly just depends how quick your specific state is at issuing licenses. I actually did not even look at la charity at all since I didn't know of any of my former classmates even recommending it, but I have heard on here that it helps. I truly believe Kaplan helped me the most get through the test with their testing strategies and I used nclex mastery for my content review. Pharm I truly only went over the different classes of drugs and that's about it because I knew for sure I would not know many generic drugs. There were about five medications on my test and I truly just tried to answer them to the best of my ability (I had never seen these drugs before). I had one drag and drop which I thought was easy and one what do you do with this rash kind of question. Overall I felt very ready for the test with what I used to study. Just go in confident and have a game plan with testing strategies and this will keep your confidence up during the test. Good luck!

I was told constantly as a student male nurse that I would have a job so easily I could basically pick the job I wanted towards the end of school. Guess what?! This was totally true, I had managers interviewing me two at a time fighting over me to work for their unit. I do have a lot of experience from being a phlebotomist to working as a lab assistant for about a year and working on a telemetry unit for a couple of months before graduation. At least where I live male nurses are looked up to and definitely get the job over the female if they both have the same credentials. Also I just passed the nclex so I chose progressive care :) (tele unit)! This is just my point of view from where I live though. Not trying to be sexist, I love working in the nursing field with both genders :)
