Why Do Crna Gets Paid So Much?
You have to be kidding right.... Did you make all of your decisions independently? Who do you think anesthetize these sick children in the OR after they have lost more than half of their blood volume? The child is beyond sick at his point...they are dieing! I don't think you can truly understand the value of a CRNA until you have walked in their shoes. The sacrafices they made to get where they are. The knowledge they have....I can go on but it will be pointless

Book: Nurse Anesthesia SECRETS
I have Nurse Anesthesia Secrets and I absolutely love it. It works well for me. In an integrated program you are sometimes asked questions in clinical that you might not have covered in class. It is a great quick reference. it also clarifies things i read in the text that are a bit cloudy.

Work While In School?
I am currently in my second semester of a CRNA program and i am working. I am single and i don't have anyone else but myself to look at to pay the bills. I work one day a week to supplement my loans. I have no social life...so that is the downfall. I study at least 6-8hrs/5-6 days a week...more if i have to. In addition, I work on our breaks. The summer semester is approaching and i am finally being forced to stop. I took out a private loan to cover my expenses. Good luck

Real Life in NYC
I strongly suggest taking a travel assignment first. (A travel assignment will pay $32-34 or more per hour and they will provide a furnished apartment in the city for you-or a $2500-3000/ month housing subsidy which is tax free) You will be able to decide for yourself where you would like to live and work permanently.

I will be attending the Newark program. But i would have gone any place that accepted me and try to make the best out of it.

Hard Core Science Degree plus ADN vs. BSN
All signs point to community college. It is more affordable, faster and you already have your bachelors. However, you will have to take health assessment and statistics when you are finished. Don't worry, i am sure your new job will have tuition reimbursement.

Why are some staff nurses such HATERS!
Yes i do have to put up with bullshit and bad attitudes, however the bad attitudes of the nurses does not affect my desire to work at an institution. Yes, it is annoying at times. However, i am very good at ignoring negative behavior from my colleagues. I am there 13 hours of the day;I focus my attention on providing excellent patient care. Bad attitudes and bullshit from management will affect my decision to stay at a hospital.

Why are some staff nurses such HATERS!
Then they shouldn't ask how much we are being paid. I am extremely stressed by the tension they create however i dont add fuel to the flames. I chill out and make the best of my day. By the way I am so happy this has happened to me. It was a hard lesson learned. Next time I know when anyone ask me questions about myself to be very vague or just not answer at all. I guess i was nieve to think they cared about who i was. When i ask peole questions about themselves, it is just to get to know them. I answered their questions now they are using it against me.

Why are some staff nurses such HATERS!
You are absolutely right two wrongs don't make a right. But i do not think i am wrong for venting here how i feel about the terrible things my colleagues are doing to me. At work, I just grin and bear it! When they give me the sickest, heaviest(500lbs+), most confused patients...it is just unfair. I run around all day like a chicken without a head while they sit on the internet and socialize. Then the icing on the cake is when they tell me i have to admit another patient. In addition to giving me the worst assignemnt they also grumble all day about how much money i make and how rich i am. If i was so rich i definitely will not be working my a#@ off there and putting up with their b@# s%$#@! They don't realize they have alot that i don't have: paid vacation, sick time, job security, pension, excellent benfits, etc. I never and i repeat never give them the satisfaction of knowing that i am annoyed my their snyde comments and unfair assignments. I smile the entire day, joke with them, and just play along. Because at the end of the day as i said before they are not signing my paycheck. So, yes these are sad nurses. When i was staff i embraced the agency and travel nurses because i wanted them to come back. I thankful for the supplemental staff. As far as these nurses not wanting to leave their job because of seniority. That is not my problem. That is their personal problem and should not be taken out on others. My philosophy in life is to make myself and my family happy. So if i am unhappy at a job, I leave. There is no reason for me to stick around and feel abused and unappeciated. So you are probably thinking that "some people don't like change". I don't like change, however it is part of life. If you cannot adjust to change then you are in trouble. So the answer is NO-NO-NO...I cannot empathize with these nurses. There is no ligitimate reason for them to be cruel.

Thinking about agency nursing
Correction: Travel assignemnts can be as short as 4 weeks if you are providing your own housing. The agencies like for you to take 13 wk assignments because it is guaranteed money in their pockets for 13 weeks of your hard labor! If you choose to accept thier housing then you will have to take a 13 wk assignment. Shop arrond for agencies. Be very clear about the assignment you are looking for and the rate of pay you are willing accept.

CrossCountryCorps
I really don't care for that agency either. They are not flexible with their rate of pay. Shop around and see what other agencies are offering at the same hospitals. I found out while searcging for a travel assignment that they payed lower rates. They are working more in their interest, not yours.

Expectations of agency nurses
I don't care what the staff nurses think or do! I do my job to the best of my ability. If you don't like me, tough luck! Yes, the things they do and say are hurtful and annoying sometimes. But, on pay day they are not signing my check. They can be as bitter and nasty as they want. They have to live with themselves. After my travel assigment and many $$$ later I will be saying goodbye with a big smile on my face. Whatever they ask me to do, I do it with a smile. I try to never give them satisfaction by being angry or nasty like them. I don' t let them walk all over me. I yes them to death and work at my own pace. Don't think I am going to start with 2 pts and have 2 different ones at the end of the day while you sit on your fat a#*. I say goodbye at the end of my shift and tell them what a wonderful experience i have had with them :chuckle ...laughing joyfully in my head at the anger in their eyes when they realize their unfair and just down right "mean treatment" did not affect me. They are not going to get me to quit. No way! I will only hurt myself and satisfy them at the end of the road. Why should i be broke because they are jealous?

Expectations of agency nurses
So true, they don't realize the benefits they have that we don't! The few extra dollars we make is because we forfeit those benefits.
