  1. Maybe its just my area but for the most part it seems Psych NP's mostly do 10-15min appointments for meds adjustment. Most of the counseling and therapy is done by clinical social workers and psychologists.
  2. Check Up: Obamacare vs. Romneycare: Any real difference?

Like most things in politics the differences are subtile in theory and gulfs apart in practice. If you ever get a chance look at the party platforms, except for a couple things they are nearly identical.
  3. Immunizations and well visits

You can lead a horse to water...
  4. Did anyone get there degree online?

To those who think online schools are destroying credibility: Could you please explain the difference between listening to a lecture 20 + feet away in an uncomfortable stadium style chair and listening / watching a lecture from the comfort of your ow...
  5. Can a Psych Np work as a Derm NP?

i would think that as a derm np you would still need some of the adult/family np background to smartly practice. if i remember the consensus model correctly (not that it is gospel or anything) you are only supposed to practice your specialty within y...
  6. Feeling insulted but not inferior

whether you needed to go to the er or urgent care may be debatable. in either case commenting on your “medical education” was unwarranted. if i were you i would be considering changing pcms.
  7. Your opinion of the DNP

none of the schools in indiana (at least none that i am aware of) even have a direct entry dnp yet. most of them have either recently came up with post-masters dnp programs or are planning to add them. the dnp is just another example of degree infla...
  8. D in Phys :-(

Most Schools will let you retake classes for a better grade. They do seem to differ inhow they handle GPA and transcript issues though. I think you would probably be better off retaking the class at your full-time institution.
  9. i can’t imagine your 1st bachelors figuring into the admissions decision for crna too much. will they look at it… yeah, but assuming your bsn transcript is strong ( that shows improvement and maturity) that will count for more that your gpa from an u...
  10. Am I Crazy? Revaming the RN/NP school curriculum...

limiting the supply of nurses in order to raise salaries is a horrible idea. the only thing that will do is cause med asst. to expand their role and do it for less money than a rn. look at what happened when there was a doctor shortage, we got nps an...
  11. Am I Crazy? Revaming the RN/NP school curriculum...

i will preface by saying that i am not a nurse. but i do have a better than cursory knowledge of nursing curriculum. generally speaking there are probably a lot of thing that would be useful to know but that must be weighed against the time and cost ...
  12. There seems to be a lot of opinions about what role NP's should fill in health care. I offer my personal view for the future of advanced practice nursing. Please critique my proposal, as I am not a Nurse Practitioner I suspect some of my views might ...
  13. Post-Master's FNP versus Med School

just to clarify; i wasn't suggesting that it is impossible to go to medschool at 50 and i certainly don't want to discourage anyone from following their dreams. i think studentdrtobe has succinctly highlighted the difficulties of it.
  14. Post-Master's FNP versus Med School

    MED School at 50!
  15. A proposal for the future of advance nursing practice

After reading the Institute of Medicine's "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health" (found here: The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health) I have really rethought my proposal. Expansion of practice rights for NPs is a G...
  16. NP with no experience?

my personal opinion is that if you don't have any nursing experience and aren't willing or able to gain that experience before becoming an np you are better off being a pa. on the other hand a lot of pa schools want or prefer some kind of clinical ex...
  17. Are adult NP's being phased out, what if you specialize

Obviously, what I meant was that if the ANP is being phased out, why not go for FNP?
  18. Np stories of success

I'm not a NP (or even a Nurse for that matter) but i wanted to say that the one thing I admire most about nursing is the opportunity and upward mobility it offers to so many people. What other profession allows people to enter with a certificate and ...
  19. RN positions on the outskirts of Indy?

Check on IU Health's website, they are afilliated with most of the hospitals in the state now.
  20. whats it like for a civilian RN working at a Navy Hosp?

The difference between GS an Contractor is that as a GS you would be a Department of the Navy (or Army) civilian i.e. hired as a civilian by the navy. As a contractor you are hired by a company who then contracts with the Navy. GS / Department of the...
  21. Can my DON legally do this to me????

they can move your shift around all they want unless choice of shift is a written benefit of employment / seniority. all the employer has to do after a deployment is give you a comparable job with the same seniority and ability for promotion as if yo...
  22. whats it like for a civilian RN working at a Navy Hosp?

i can’t speak for navy hospitals, but as far as army hospitals go (which should be fairly similar) civilian nurses and specialists work alongside their military counterparts in equal numbers. usajobs is the site you need to go to as they list all fed...
  23. Scope of Practice / Nurse Practice Act

for aprn’s i’m guessing the scope of practice would be defined by your collaboration agreement. i have no idea how they determine rns and lpns scope of practice.
  24. No More LPN programs

my states community colleges have stopped offering their lpn program. the asn is now the only option. i guess their reasoning was that there was only a 12-15 credit hour difference between the asn and lpn program. is this a trend anywhere else? are l...
  25. A proposal for the future of advance nursing practice

Another interesting fact: Johns Hopkins allows its DNP students to take medschool electives. Does anyone know of other universities that do this?
