reporting a collegue
Sorry to hear of your situation. Try and find out if there is a "corporate compliance" number at your work. We used to have an 800 number where you could anonymously report such issues. Also, don't let her threaten you. I think that the situation could be considered "whistle blowing", so there are laws in place to protect you. Also consider the weight of the situation. She's verbally, and physically abusing residents. She's giving unprescribed medications etc. Good Luck!

Dilemma: FORCED to float to med/surg - advice please!?!?!
The abandonment thing is a bunch of bull. You can only be charged with abandonment if you accept an assigment, and receive report, and are technically caring for your patients and then walk off. But if you don't accept the assignment, how can that be abandonment? Stick to your guns.

Meet the Fockers
who has been "fockerized". I thought it was absolutely hilarious. the movie pokes fun at everything, eg greg's dad was a stay at home mom in the 70's, the mom is a sex therapist, jack byrnes is obsessive compulsive and is convinced greg has a past, I could only reccomend watch the first one and then the second and you will die laughing, you will be "FOCKERIZED". by the same token, it also has greg delivering a baby independently without an MD successfully and depicts a family very grateful to him

Nurse Safety: Have We Addressed the Risks?
By the same token, I can't bear the thought of being unsafe at work. I will never step foot on that campus again.

Nurse Safety: Have We Addressed the Risks?
Hi. I don't think that workplace safety is addressed properly in the work place. Wouldn't it make all of our jobs safer and less stressful if hospitals had a much more restrictive visiting time frame? ie less family and therefore less stress. I had someone "grab" me last year. He was upset because his wife hadn't urinated yet, after having a foley removed less than two hours previous. I had explained she had about 8 hours before she needed to urinate. Anyhow, I had a patient who had a respiratory emergency which took priority. He waited outside the room till I came down the hall put his hand on my right arm and shoulder and pulled me into the room, and squeezed very hard. I had black and blue marks all over my arm. Luckily no soft tissue damage to my shoulder. Actually it was so bad you could see the outline of his thumb and three fingers in the bruise on my arm. My manager was not very supportive. She said "it's always something isn't it"? And then being sarcastic she said "let's call the news". This coming from someone who is an RN herself. Anyhow, it became very political because I pressed charges against him. In the end she said that I could be terminated or I could resign. I chose to resign, and I left the facility. I know for a fact they put on my file "ineligible for rehire" because I spoke to human resources. So,,,,, I lost a job with really good state benefits because someone hit me and the manager was a apathetic.

Why do I feel so guilt-ridden?
You have to take care of yourself. By the same token, if you're ill, how can you effectively take care of anyone else?
