Ahhh so happy for you!!! How has process I and II been for you so far? It's been a Rollercoaster feel like we've been studying for 6 months it's amazing what we've learned in under 3 months!!

Thank you for the advice and congrats on getting through GIGU yourself! Any advice on what to really brush up on before we start that class?

It is entirely possible for me to sit down and eat half a bag of reeses peanut butter cups by my lonesome. Also known as "stress eating" I CAN rock 2 exams the day before 12 hr clinical...and still rock it in clinical. Although I'm willing to jump in and help, still need to work on my "uncertainty" when trying my skills for the first time. I'm frustrating myself. Wine and binge watching horror movie date nights with my sister are even better than usual. Nursing school makes the heart grow fonder. Seriously. I will NEVER leave starbucks. They've randomly decided to add even more incentive to keep supervisors. I've learned that large corporations CAN and WANT TO take care of their employees. Thank you, Howard schultz. My feelings about drug addiction changed within the span of one afternoon. Thank you ma'am for making me understand a few more things about the addicts in my life. I won't judge so bitterly from now on. Reading allnurses posts have helped so much with school and life in general. Thanks for being insightful and awesome.

Feeling a bit unfairly graded by my new clinical instructor. First, My ORIGINAL clinical instructor had a situation that caused her to leave through the middle of the semester. I was given to a second instructor for the first half of the semester, and now a third instructor for this 2nd half of the semester. This professor seems very nice, and I have not had an issue with her during campus lab practice days. I put in about 20 hours worth of clinical practice in about 2 weeks, more than most were about to put in..as well as practiced my skills at home. During my return demo I felt very rushed. For the 3 drugs I looked up and had to answer 20 questions on, I would give the correct answer yet she couldn't hear very well, and thought I gave her the wrong answer. Didn't want to hear that I gave the right answer the first time around. I would take a second to think about what she was asking me and goto answer but she would cut me off and give me the answer as if I had answered it wrong. For my skills, I had to prime an IV, and set the drip rate. She inserted the port into the mannequin IV, which I had suggested wouldn't let my drip chamber start. Because that happened, she didn't want to wait for me to set up drip rate after I unattached the port and went to set my drip rate. She just marked me as knowing the skill. She kept rushing me through my CVC dressing, and through my ID injection. She just kept repeating " we don't have enough time just put your gloves on" or "just inject it". I would try to explain to her what I was doing and as I was doing it, but she just kept cutting me off and telling me to just do the skill. I didn't go over my allotted time for return demo. During my midterm evaluation she wrote that "i needed to spend more time in the skills lab". I'm just very frustrated. I have 3 days of hospital clinical with her, and I don't feel like she will be very supportive. On top of that, There was a mess up with the faculty on when I needed to get an IV pump certification, and because they could not do it on the day I signed up for, I had to schedule the certification during my lunch break for a campus lab day. After the certification, I went to hand her my certificate but she was in the middle of midterm evaluations. So, I already needed to make a copy of it. I went ahead to the library, made a copy, grabbed a bit of lunch, and came back to the lab. She proceeded to yell at me in front of everyone in the lab, telling me that "WHY would you leave when you know I've been waiting for that all morning? You need to start thinking properly." She told me that she needed to have it BY 3pm. She did NOT tell me that she was waiting for me to hand it to her after my certification was done. The others in my group told me that she had said to goto lunch and come back. I was gone from 11:30-12:30, and she had just completed evaluations. I don't see where I was wrong in that scenario. It was not my fault that the faculty allowed me and 5 other people to sign up for a time slot for that certification that was not available, because the only person that was there to teach it realized she had to proctor an ortho neuro exam. She tried to text me an hour a half before my time, while I was at work. I was NOT available to come any earlier. I'm aggravated that I took time out of my lunch break to do this certification, and am basically penalized for it.

My BF and I have been together for 2 years. Weathered some things..a miscarriage, temporary loss of a job due to an injury, a death of a family member. We love each other, plain and simple. He always knew I wanted to attend NS, but now that I've been accepted, has cold feet about it because from May-Nov it would be long distance due to his primary job moving him back and forth. when he's up north, he works 2 jobs 6 days a week, so we only saw each other Mondays and in the evenings after 6:30pm. When he is down south, he is off by 12pm everyday. I'm so frustrated right now; he went from encouraging me to take the entrance exams and telling me he would be there, to telling me he hoped I would get rejected so I wouldn't have to stay. It is 6 months, for 2 years. 6 measly months, out of the supposed rest of our lives that he wants to spend with me. I'm angry he doesn't understand that I know exactly what I want, which is him and the chance to improve my career (or rather lack of). He says he wants me with him. That we wouldn't work if we were apart. He was with the previous girl for 4yrs, while she was in CANADA for 8 months of every year..they ended b/c she cheated. I tell him I'm not her, and he claims that isn't it. He just doesn't want to be apart.

Putting your obvious anger at being rejected, look at the hard facts. Grade inflation has made it necessary to weed out those who truly KNOW the basics in more of a way than memorizing it in chunks to get through the test only to forget it later on. grammar, if you cannot properly communicate that puts your patients at risk due to illegible, or unclear charts. reading is even more important. if you cannot deduce the idea of what the author is saying how will you grasp abstract nursing concepts? math goes without saying. make a mistake and you'll cause injury even death. Better yourself and lose the woe is me attitude. Life is about making your own path, not being handed everything only to get smacked down when you hit a wall due to your lack of knowledge and unwillingness to learn.

Have you tried temp agencies?

I hope I'm lucky enough to get an entire orificenal of preceptors like you..this is exactly how I learn and I feel it should be even MORE so like this because of what is at risk!

I know the feeling..I was once in the hospital for over a week, with family that I regularly talked to, who couldn't be bothered to drive the 20 min to the hospital to see how I was. You know it's a sad state when the only people to come see you are your boss and his girlfriend!

I'm curious as to why some people seem to think individuals with tattoos/piercings go against the rules? It just seems like a stereotype to me, honestly. I know many people with tattoos who follow the "rules". I also know of a woman who is 58 years old and just finished her 6th tattoo, all of which have personal meaning to her. I have nothing against tattoos/piercings; judging someone based on their physical looks is a gamble; you're wrong or right half the time. I have a tongue ring simply because I like the look of it..I take it out when the situation warrants taking it out. I do personally however dislike some of the astronomically crazy tattoos and piercings I've seen. I know a guy who has a zombie crawling out of a hole filled with car parts tattooed across his chest...creeps me out to no end.

I didn't know that tidbit; UK doesn't require a test like NCLEX? I guess they make up for it with so many clinical hours though. I would prefer to go on for my BSN; and from what I've noticed as far as researching jobs most are requiring or prefer a BSN grad. Thanks for the responses everyone. Smilty, what branch of nursing did you take up in the UK? Would anyone who took a general nurse course in the UK have such a hard time with licensing in the US?

BabyRN, thank you for the info! I wouldn't want to come back to the states to work which is why I was curious if anyone had done it. Redhead, i just did some research and there are a select few universities that allow non-eu students into their programs. Its about 4000 a semester in pounds, the one I looked into

Haha most of the time your're at a medium pace canter :) it is only when you breeze that you'll get into a full gallop. If you ever get the chance to get on a really easy one I'd say go for it; best adrenaline rush ever!

Lori, I gallop racehorses yes! I tried the jockey route one summer but it wasn't for me so I stuck with bringing along babies and older horses. I have since I was 18 but a good few broken bones later and change in long term priorities made me want a change in careers :) Morgans are awesome; I rescued a Morganwho since then has made a great kids horse.

Hello, I have been accepted on a bachelors course here in the US for nursing, but would like to know if anyone has any information on whether or not if I marry my UK boyfriend now instead of after my program, would I be able to study nursing in the UK? I know most programs are funded by the NHS and are for UK or EU citizens, but I've not seen anything about international spouses of UK citizens?

I'm always curious as to why people choose their careers, and what made them go into their field. I also think it's a good way to stay motivated if you remember why you're working to get somewhere. So when did you decide nursing was for you? Personally, I was born 24 1/2 weeks early. Growing up my mom raved about the nurses who took care of me in NICU. I had the chance to see my oldest sister (38) who has severe cerebral palsy. I met her for the first time a year ago, and lo and behold one of the nurses who took care of me was now working in the care facility my sister grew up in! Just seeing her with my sister was my lightbulb moment.

We're starting the digestive system and I was wondering how you guys organized your notes? I find the larger concepts easy to understand, it's just remembering all of the small details like specific enyzmes and such. My professor is very big on picking out the most obscure details from the book for lecture and linking concepts from previous chapters, which is great since I feel like I understand it better however I feel like this chapter is pretty dense with information. Any tips on grouping things, any mnemonics, analogies, etc? I actually haven't found the internet helpful at all for this chapter. I've managed 90,87 on my two lectures so far so want to keep it up! If it helps he was a biology major.

I'm so excites; the first thing I did was jump on my couch. Forgiving my 5 year old ways, it's been a bit of journey between when I was finally able to get my GED in 2010, start my general courses in 2012, and now to be accepted into a bachelors program. All that hard work and doing it on my own has paid off; finally feels as though there really IS a method to my madness in switching careers at 24! (Yes, I know I'm not exactly considered old, but I've worked full time since I was 14 up until now, so a career change was a bit daunting)

This is wonderful. I firmly believe that good manners and consideration for others make up the building block of a successful career. if you don't have those two things are not going to succeed in life
