Hospital Case Manager vs. RN Nurse Liaison
Thank you for the responses. The liaison position I am seeking would not require much travel as I would be stationed at one hospital. I'm not worried about the sales aspect that much either. I am curious if liaisons get bonuses based on marketing efforts. Can this area of Nursing be more lucrative than case management?

Hospital Case Manager vs. RN Nurse Liaison
Career advice please. I have interviews for two different jobs. One is for a Nurse Liaison for a reputable Acute Rehab Hospital, the other is for a hospital case manager position. I have been a case manager before, but I have never worked as a nurse liaison and cannot find much information about it. Has anyone here ever done that kind of work? I realize it is more of a marketing/sales position, but I would love to hear more from those who have worked in that role.

How does CM pay compare to bedside RN pay?
I suppose whether pay is better or worse than bedside nursing may depend on a few factors. What I mean is an experienced bedside nurse (5+ years lets say) who works weekends, evenings, holidays, overtime, ect. makes much more than a brand new nurse working only the required 36 hours, on day shift, with little to no weekend or evening shift differential or holiday pay. I just interviewed for a case management position in my hospital and I am hoping the pay will at least match what I'm making now as a relatively new nurse on days working no overtime and only the minimum of required weekend and holiday time. Of course I'm also hoping I get offered the job and the ability to answer this question after I learn or negotiate a potential salary. I was told it is a salaried, not hourly position.

Nurse Pract. in Florida 2015
Not sure about specific FNP practice regulations, but I have lived in both Tampa and Jax. Housing in Tampa is more costly, but the beaches and the weather are much nicer. Also, it seems there is much more to do in Tampa.

Medications on NCLEX 2014
I took it today and some medications had both names, others had just one name.

Scrubs for plus size
Try Sanibel Scrubs. They are not too pricey and fit my plus size curves well. The fabric also has a little stretch to it.

How to get into Case Management
I will be a new grad nurse with my BSN in a couple of weeks. Formerly I spent 15 years as a high school English teacher. I am highly interested in eventually becoming a case manager. I have excellent communication and writing skills, I am good on the phone, and I love to advocate for others. Will these skills be helpful in Case Management? Also, are there any types of entry level jobs within case management? What additional training or coursework should I pursue for this career field? Is it best to begin on a general med-surg floor? Basically what would be the best way for me to reach my goal?

Just got hired as PCA - Advise Please
I will be full time over the summer and then drop down to part time when classes resume in the fall. I am in the float pool so I could be assigned just about anywhere. Shifts are 7 to 7. I have no problems with coffee (never liked the taste), but I will try to stay away from soda.

how do I find CNA jobs?
One of our nursing school instructors established a relationship with the HR guy at a large city hospital here in Florida. So far they have hired 4 of us and the HR guy has asked her for more students. Maybe ask at your instructors for help.

Just got hired as PCA - Advise Please
I am a nursing student that just got hired as a PCA at a large inner city hospital. I will be doing shift work for the first time ever. Any advice on how to get used to nights, 12 hour shifts, float pool, and everything else you wish you would have known when you started would be greatly appreciated.

Patho Pharm -- need help
Well the instructor emailed me back late yesterday. According to her, TTT means treatment. I would have never guessed that. Esme12, interestingly enough last term the instructors really, really stressed the importance of approved abbreviations. I really think the instructor just uses her own "shorthand" in her powerpoints.

Wow! Esme12, you are awesome! I will definitely benefit from these flashcards.

Patho Pharm -- need help
Thank you. I did email the instructor. I wish she was as quick as all of the helpful people on this site. Sometimes I think she makes up her own acronyms to save time making the powerpoint, but it certainly does no good for the quiz before the lecture.

Patho Pharm -- need help
My professor tests on our preparation of material before her lecture. She gives us a powerpoint and uses many abbreviations. Can anyone here tell me what "TTT" may stand for in a powerpoint on the renal system? She uses the acronym three times with very little contextual information. When I googled it I came up with time, temperature, and transformation, but I really don't think that makes sense, so I'm looking for other possibilities. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Quizlet is a great online resource. You can look up flashcards made by others and make your own.

Note to teachers about visits to the nurse....suggestions welcome
I was a high school teacher for over 15 years. Sometimes it is difficult to stop teaching, locate the proper pass (if you even have a supply of them), fill it out, and then send the student. Trust me, there are many times I would tell the student to wait a minute and the student wouldn't ask again because he/she really just wanted out of the room to meet up with someone. And in urgent, emergency situations, (diabetic needs for example) it was faster to just let the student go. Some schools I worked at gave students a planner and in the back of the planner was a log for passes out of the room. It made things quicker and more efficent. This enabled the whole school to see just how often a student requested a pass so trips to the clinic, library, locker, bathroom, etc didn't become a habit. Suggest this for your school and perhaps get a page designed specifically for the clinic. Most of the students' clinic needs were simple, bandaids, feminine products, ice, tylenol. I found it extremely beneficial to have bandaids in the classroom. Maybe the cafeteria could hand out ice bags? Maybe the front office secretary could have a bandaid supply? I have often given extra credit at the end of a grading period for any student who never needed a pass out of the classroom. This could be a suggestion you make to your teachers. It saves everyone time. Just remember, a teacher knows that refusing to send the student to the clinic could become a huge legal problem. So sometimes it is easierand wiser to just let the student go especially when adequate forms/passes are not supplied to the teacher.

UNF fall 2012/summer 2012
FYI, our cohort had a person called off the waitlist the second morning of Orientation. Keep your phone on you and be ready to go especially on those days. You just never know when someone will change his/her mind.

What is the best computer to have for school?
I love my little Samsung NP305. The best thing about it, is it's tiny size (under 3 lbs.). I am in nursing school right now and some of my classes are in traditional rooms with tiny desks or auditoriums with pull out half desktops. Most of the other students struggle with the size of their computers. Plus, I didn't want to carry alot of weight. I think my binder containing all my notes weighs more than my laptop which holds all my books. I would consider weight and size and look at the structure itself. How portable and sturdy does it look? When I need more screen space I go home and connect my computer through an HDMI cable to my 52 inch Plasma TV. This works great for the podcasts and videos I have to watch. Plus I can put it in the "extended desktop" mode and have different windows open on my TV then I have on my laptop (does Mac have that function?) So I often have my book on the tv and a word document open on my laptop so I can type notes from the text. Sounds a little nerdy, but it works great for me.

2012 UNF Accelerated BSN Hopefuls
The classes are all during the week, but some may start at 8 a.m. and some won't end till 8 p.m. You will need to sign up for screenings out in the community. Some of these are on Saturdays, but there are some during the week as well. You will have choices, but it is really a full time program.

UNF Fall 2012
Hi. I started UNF's nursing program this summer and I love it. I just wanted to stop by and tell everyone to follow the advice on here about the interview. They really do want to see your personality. Don't be too reheorificed in your answers. Good luck to you all and I hope to see you around in the Fall.

Cold feet?
Your mom probably knows you well You can and would not turn you in the wrong direction. It is not uncommon to be unsure of a career path. Nursing provides so many different directions so it has built in job flexibility. Also, keep in mind that a career is only one aspect of your life. Anyone can find things they hate and things they love about any career field. I would suggest beginning the program and giving it a try.

UNF fall 2012/summer 2012
I think the original poster just means that for the Fall term only the traditional track is available. The accelerated program only begins summer term.

Did you join the facebook group created for our cohort (traditional)? She did tell us that she bumped up one person and called someone off the waitlist. No specifics were given. Since the deadline to RSVP is today, I am staying close to my phone.
