  1. Read the charts as you can, find one of the stnas to help you identify any pt you are not sure of identification. you will learn them and their preferences faster than you think. Good luck
  2. I have no idea how this will affect you getting into the nursing program at your school, but I failed organic chemistry the first time I took it and graduated 5 years ago from a competitive school. If you are a freshman check to see if your school has a Freshman forgiveness program (ask your advisor) and the grade can be dropped from your records. It is what I did and it worked. Sometimes you just overestimate how much you can handle in a semester. Ask around and find out what you can do to mitigate the damage to your record.:icon_hug: Good luck.
  3. One more idea for a button I am a NURSE, that means I am here to save your ***, not kiss it. Hope I don't offend anyone with this.
  4. I just wanted to add my to this discussion as a 10 year sufferer of fibromyagia who was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and is now pain free. If you have IBS symtoms in addition to the pain, fatigue and depression get checked for celiac. It has changed my life. I am now pain and medication free, all it requires to test is a celiac panel blood screening to determine if you have it. The treatment is a gluten free diet for life, though I am researching holistic cures at this time that claim to increase tolerance for gluten. Feel free to PM me for information. If you do not have the IBS symtoms it is unlikely but not impossible that you have celiac disease. Best wishes to all and I am not saying that fibromyaglia is not real, I do believe that it is, but if misdiagnoses is the problem then no medication, nutrional advice aimed at fibromyagia, or exercise routine will help.
  5. No question is stupid or insignificant when it applies to YOU. You are the one who will have to live with the recovery, scars, pain, risks. And you deserve to be informed about all of it ahead of time. Obviously no one can tell the furture, but nurses and doctors can tell you the "expected" outcome. Never, never, never let anyone tell you to keep quiet if you are not sure or just want to know something, especially about your own health.
  6. I personally went into nursing for several reasons. 1. I like people. 2. I wanted job security. 3. I wanted to make a decent living wage.(ie. above minimum) 4. I have career ADD (I get bored doing the same thing everyday and once I learn a job I am ususally bored and dissatisfied with it, not a problem in nursing, never done learning!) 5. I wanted flexible scheduling. 6. I wanted to be able to move my job if necessary (hubby's job can move and he would need to go) There are more I have forgotten I am sure. What other career can give you all of these. I do not claim to have had a "calling" to nursing, and generally I do not get involved emotionally with my pts, though there have been a couple that have gotten to me.
  7. Sea salt also has other trace minerals (I don't remember which ones right now) that table salt does not have. I personaly use Kosher, sea, and table salt depending on what I am cooking.
  8. STNA = State Tested Nurse Aide
  9. You need to know what kind of visits you will be doing to determine what you will need. Post-op: bandages, wound measuring devices, lots and lots of gloves, steri strips (you will want ot know whether you take dispoable suplies, company delivers or is pt expected to get them), IV: who is the home pharmacy and what do they deliver vs. what you need to bring. And peds can be a whole other matter, but I have never one peds at home so I do not know what you would need. Good Luck My company suppied all equipment, including b/p cuff and stethescope. You could use your own if you wanted to though.

I worked tele in my first job out of school as an RN and had no previous experience except for clincals. I think that a CNA position would give you a really great opportunity to learn cardiac care and see if that might be an area you want to specialize in after school. In the unit I worked on most of the patients were at least weight bearing and most were coninent of B&B. But just to let you know I only lasted 3 months in this position as a new grad RN, due in part to not knowing what I was getting into up front. (and staffing issuses, but that seems to be everywhere) Good Luck and Go for it.

  12. short, fat and proud of that......just like pooh bear:chuckle :chuckle
  13. true, I guess I concentrated more on the ethics of nursing as in bedside nursing and accountability and not intimate relationships as I was married during school also. I am not trying to be a pain, this is just outside my normal world view. I guess I should have not said anything.
