  1. Swan-Ganz Usage

I work in general ICU/CCU and I have seen one Swan in the last year. Definitely just about phased out in my hospital, although we don't do open hearts.
  2. ICU Burn Out!!

Cath lab? Stress lab? Endoscopy? Infusion?
  3. Many grads in various organizations around me as well!
  4. Well, I am doing RN to MSN, but perhaps I can help?
  5. BCG vaccine and Mantoux test

This is interesting to hear, I've also had the BCG vaccine. When I was younger, I had a few false positives but not in many years. I still get a violent skin reaction to Mantoux though. I want to gnaw my arm off the first night because it itches so b...
  6. CVC mess-up?

Obviously for infection control purposes, this was not ideal, as "cap" (needleless connector) changes should always be a sterile procedure. As far as direct harm to the patient, since the line was clamped and capped, it's fine. Sounds like you cleane...
  7. I've worked in the same unit since graduating from nursing school. My previous career was in a totally unrelated field. I have recently been thinking about moving on to a larger hospital to gain more experience as I hope to start traveling at some po...
  8. WGU RN to BSN Grads/Current Students

Please don't let the biochem scare you, it really wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Honest.
  9. MSN - how long does it take?

    12 CUs per term.
  10. My class had four ESL students, including myself. We all made it through nursing school and NCLEX. So you can absolutely do it!! The hardest part was writing papers, sentence structure can be problematic for me and I don't spot my errors by proof rea...
  11. My feelings echo yours exactly! I love the night atmosphere, but I also struggle with the schedule. In my pre-nursing life, I worked early shifts for twenty years and I feel unable to shake my internal clock. I feel like a zombie all the time, always...
  12. Anyone else starting July 1?

I mostly just reviewed the areas I was weaker on the PA.
  13. Anyone else starting July 1?

I'm just waiting on my webcam to show up so I can test out of Care of the Older Adult and move on...
  14. Anyone else starting July 1?

Omg! That's amazing! Thanks for sharing that. I don't think I have that in me, but I hope to accelerate a little bit.
  15. 2015 allnurses Salary Survey Results

Well I believe us upstate people are weighing the averages down... The base pay in my hospital is $24/hr and there are area hospitals that pay even less.
  16. Anyone else starting July 1?

They would not do an official transcript review for me as long as I showed classes "in progress" on the transcript, so I had to drop out of my fall classes I had kept as a backup in case I didn't go through with the transfer. So yes, you can get your...
  17. Anyone else starting July 1?

I may be too... They are just finishing my transcript review before I officially pull the trigger on the transfer (I'm already going to a state school for online BSN)
  18. No longer a nursing student - graduation!

Congrats all grads! We made it! Pinning ceremony tomorrow for me.
  19. I need tips about eating when studying!!

I feel your pain. I've gained 30 lbs since starting nursing school!! I'm so glad I'm just about done. I look forward to having the time and energy to do all the things I love to do again.
  20. Anyone else get a survey call about a ratio bill?

More info here: What’s in the Proposed Law? | New York State Nurses Association Annual lobby day in Albany on April 21st, I believe.
  21. Job prospects in upstate NY

I don't think there's much between Glens Falls Hospital and CVPH in Plattsburgh (which by the way I hear is an amazing place to work).
  22. Congrats to the both of you! If you all don't mind me asking, what is the starting pay rate for these two hospitals?
  23. Albany Medical Center

Thank you NurseVoldemort! I hate to sound like I'm all about the money, but as a mature person with a family and student loans, unfortunately compensation is something I have to consider. I'm going to try to get a tech job at Ellis this year, hopeful...
  24. Albany Medical Center

Thank you! Yikes. Paying back student loans is going to be more painful than I expected.
  25. Albany Medical Center

I would be interested to know comparisons from other area hospitals. Ellis? St. Peter's? Saratoga?
