Having trouble gaining employment
I'm an experienced nurse and even I'm having trouble finding employment in the city. I recently had an interview in the hospital I really want to get into. It was for a unit I have experience in (Telemetry) and I still didn't get the position I feel discourage and almost want to give up looking for a job in the city.

New York Presbyterian Nursing Attendants?
A little off topic... Anyone know if NYP (specifically Cornell) employees do self-scheduling?

Going out with your co-workers (Mixing Business with pleasure)
I see nothing wrong with hanging out with coworkers outside of work. Like someone mentioned, just make sure you keep it "light and positive." It helps to get to know your coworkers on a more personal level and (for me at least) it improves teamwork. I've made long-lasting friendships from work!

NYP Cornell & Colombia
For those who currently or used to work for the NYP system.... Is it easy to transfer from facility to facility? Like say I want to transfer from Cornell to Columbia? What is the policy before transferring within the system? Is it 6 months or a year?

New Graduate-list of recruiter emails in NY hospitals
I would try linkedin and search for the recruiters based on hospital. Sometimes the recruiters post their email addresses as well.

What is it like to be a nurse in a prison?
I work in a hospital that has a unit exclusively for the state's DOC. More pay! And no worries about the unit closing even if there is only 1-2 patients :)

Anyone apply for BOP?
I saw an opening with a BOP facility close to me. How is it working for BOP? Just intrigued me because the hospital I currently work at get patients from the BOP facility and when I was talking to the correctional officers they told me the benefits are good. Also the FCI is a closer commute. How is the pay? Do they usually do 8 or 12 shifts?? What is the routine usually like?

NYP New grad position
It's a shame people like me can't even get a chance to interview with these people because I don't have those three letters. B...S...N Even if I say I'm currently enrolled and done by 7 months... sad!

Elmhurst HHC Interview process?
Wow, good for you! Good luck with your interview if you didn't do it yet. Question: What's the email you sent to get an interview? I have almost 2 yrs experience in the hospital but no BSN but I'm currently enrolled. Should be done by January 2014.

Does anyone know how hard it is to land a federal nursing prison job?
I saw an RN position opening for a fed prison here in NJ. How is it working in a fed prison? I'm thinking about applying. Just want some input first. I work at a hospital that has a seperate prison unit for state prisoners only. The federal inmates go on the regular floor with regular patients.

NSLIJ Interview Tips and Advice
I had an interview with Lenox Hill. Anyone know how long to hear back for an offer or rejection? Will they contact you (via email or phone) even to say you weren't hired? I just hate playing the waiting.

Help! Interview with Radiology department for RN position!
Hi everyone, I just got a call from NY Eye and Ear Infirmary in NYC for an interview. It's for a per diem RN position 9a-1p. I applied to this facility but for inpatient unit. I was surprised! Something completely different and I have no ICU/ER experience. I have 1.5 years of med/surg experience and trained on a telemetry unit for 6 weeks but we also float almost every week to telemetry units. I've been pulled to the ER once to help out. I only have my BCLS but working to get my ACLS sometime this month or next month. Even though this was totally something different than what I had originally applied for, I decided to schedule the interview and give it a try. I'm still young and I want to learn as much as possible! Don't want to waste the opportunity if it comes. Won't hurt to just interview and ask questions. My question is: what does a radiology nurse do? I work night shift and usually don't interact with any radiology nurses. Only thing I know of is that radiology nurses start IV's, monitor patients during IV contrast, etc. Anything else I should do? Is it usually busy? how is the pace? What kind of questions do you think they will ask me?

Is it Worth applying to New York Presbyterian New Grad Residency?
I find it unfair how they only forward BSN applicants. I know hospitals want to get magnet status but this job search is getting annoying. I know life isn't fair, but NYP's online application is frustrating. Once I click no for the question asking if I have my BSN, it automatically does not forward it to HR. Their requirements are misleading then. They should put "only considering BSN graduates" instead of "BSN highly preferred" I don't know, maybe I'm just frustrated with the job search in NYC. I only have a few more classes to go before I get my BSN, but I just can't wait anymore! I need a job in NYC!

Which hospitals in NYC hire associate degree grads
It's so frustrating! I have an ADN, doing my RN-BSN program now. Hope to graduate by next year! I've been applying to every position available! I don't know if it's a smart thing to do, but I'm desperate! I'm not giving up! It's always been a dream of mine to work in the big apple. I'm blessed to have my current position though on a med/surg unit with experience floating to tele units. Anyone got any tips to help my resume stand out from the BSN's? I feel like having those three letters (BSN) is the only way to stand out nowadays. Nursing politics......

Mount Sinai.....Getting a foot in the door
Anyone know if Mount Sinai will consider someone like me? I am an Associates Degree RN with almost 2 years experience in med/surg/tele. Will be done my BSN next year (God Willing) I am desperate to find a hospital job in the city! I am not giving up but there are times I want to! I know people will say I'm wasting my time applying since I don't have my BSN, but I still believe there's hope for us ADN's!

HELP! new grad seeking employment- NYC area
Hey thekidisback, I'm from Jersey, I also have my ADN and still no luck finding a job in the city. I have almost 2 years experience just like you. I feel like giving up, but I just keep trying and trying. You never know...one of these days someone might call you for an interview days, weeks, or months from now. I'm just blessed to have a job right now...that's what I keep telling myself. Few months ago I received a phone call from Mount Sinai regarding a position I applied to. Unfortunately I was asleep at the time (I work night shift). The recruiter left me a message so I called back immediately only to get her voice mail. She never called me back again. I just thought it was kind of rude never to get back to my phone call. Oh well.... Guess she found someone else.

Mobile Health in NYC
Hey guys, I just applied for a position with Mobile health in their midtown office. Has anyone worked for this clinic or know of anybody who has? It's a primary care clinic. Flu shots, pregnancy tests, etc. etc. Applied for it because I work on a hectic med-surg floor full-time nights and I want a per diem or part time position during the day that is kind of fast paced but where patients just come and go.

LTC, Nursing homes or clinics in NYC
I'm a nurse in NJ with one year experience in med-surg. I got my NY license few months back and applied to different hospitals in NYC area. Fortunately I got one call back from Mt. Sinai! But I missed the phone call! I tried calling the recruiter back, but she was in a meeting so I left a message. I never heard from her again! And I don't want to call and keep leaving messages to sound so pushy. I was just fortunate to even get a call back because I only have an Associates degree but currently enrolled in an online RN to BSN program. Right now I'm giving up on applying at hospitals in NYC. I'm gonna try other things. Anyone know of any LTC, nursing homes, clinics in the NYC area that is hiring right now?

soon to be UAE nurse
I'm a filipino nurse working here in the US (and born here too), but I'm interested in working abroad. UAE is a place of interest since a lot of the people are english-speaking. How do I go about applying to be a nurse in UAE? What are the paper works? exams? etc.?

What Type of Nursing is Right for Me?
I would apply on a med-surg floor so you get everything. That way it's something you can put on your resume & you're exposed to a variety cases. From that you can decide where you want to go. I'm a new grad, been a nurse for a year now working on a med-surg floor. Unfortunately, mental health isn't my thing. We often get patients from the psychiatric unit because of overflow. Sometimes they can be quiet but when they start acting up, we really don't know how to deal with them. We have to call nurses from the psych unit to calm them down. But ever since working on a med-surg floor I found out that I'm interested in a lot of things. I just can't decide where I want to go next. My plan is to apply everywhere, anywhere and see which place accepts me and I'll take it from there. Good luck! :)

yes, another night shift post.
I'm a new grad orienting on a busy tele/med-surg unit and I HATE DAY SHIFT! haha it's too busy! I was hired for nights, but we are required to orient on days first. I can't wait to start 7p-7a hahaha

HELP!
- HELP!
I'm a new grad currently orienting on a telemetry floor. But after my orientation I'm going to a general med-surg unit. Weird, I know. But there's already a lot of orientees on the floor I got hired for so they had me orient on a different unit. My problem right now is that the manager on the telemetry floor is offering me a full time 7p-7a position. It's a little tempting because I really want telemetry experience. The nurses on the floor including my preceptor are encouraging me to get telemetry experience because they say if you can make it in telemetry, you can make it anywhere. I am just hesitant because after 1 week of orienting on the telemetry floor, it's been crazy hectic! The turn over rate is ridiculous. I'm so overwhelmed, but I am learning sooooo much! I see the nurses stressing and it scares me! I don't know whether I should take the telemetry position or go to the med-surg floor. Does anyone here work in a telemetry unit 7p-7a? How is it? Is it still busy? How is the turn over rate during the night shift?- What do you do on the drive to work?
I listen to Elvis Duran and the Morning Show on Z100 NY :) Love it! - HELP!
