You hit the nail right on the head with this article! BRAVO to you for having the courage to write what some of us nurses are thinking! I'm a Hospice nurse and I more then understand the frustrations of trying to get a family to understand that their loved one is going to die..no matter what they do. The end result is the same. And I love how you paint the picture of what CPR looks like! Great job!

It took me 3 months to get started with them. I started my application September 19, 2013. I ordered my transcripts and everything the same day. They got 2 out of 3 of my transcripts within 2 weeks. There was an issue with the other transcript which I took care of withing a week of receiving the news they had not gotten them. That was in late October. I didn't receive my acceptance into the BSN program until January 8, 2014 and classes started January 13, 2014. And you have to be registered by the Tuesday before classes started. Needless to say I got my acceptance on a Monday! So I missed the 1st start date but luckily there was another class that started a week later I was able to get into. They are slow and not sorry about it. I only hung in there because I've heard nothing but good things about the school. I'm presently in my 1st class (American Government) and so far so good.

Wow Lorren2002. That was a pretty good turn around time for you. I applied to the college Sept 19th. Today is Dec 13th and I'm still awaiting! I've been told I'm accepted to the college but then I contacted my advisor for the CON and she informed me they are still reviewing my transcripts. They have had 2 out of 3 of my transcripts since early October and the last one since the end of October to early Nov. I'm so aggravated with the school at this point I've started exploring other schools. Good luck everyone!

Good luck. Let me know how it works out for you. I started the application process in Sept so I could start Nov 4th. Well I still have not started classes. I don't even know what credits they are taking or not taking. Getting someone to call you back has been a joke. I email them and they say they will get back to me within 48 hours...almost 2 weeks later I'm told they are STILL reviewing my transcripts. All of my records come from accredited school so I don't know what the hold up is. I have a sinking feeling I'm going to miss the January deadline as well. I don't mean to discourage anyone. My purpose is to say...Have a backup plan. I called the presidents office today and I'm waiting for a phone call back. I hope you both have better luck with them than I have. I've heard nothing but great things about this school. I'm a bit disappointed I may not get to experience it 1st hand!

I did Hurst and I loved it. I am looking to do another review. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I used the Hurst review book to study for my LPN and passed the 1st time (by the grace of God). Good luck!

Hi Shan, Sorry I took so long to reply. I am doing my RN at Indian River State College right now. It is a very competitive program, so having your LPN is a plus. The only bridge program I know of in South Florida is in Broward at Broward Community College. I will say that there is NOTHING easy about IRSC's program but it is right now the best in Florida. I don't know why it continues to amaze me at how negative people can be. I see someone trying to be positive and all some people can do is complain. I understand that the economy sucks. But that will never give anyone the right to just be plain mean and have a negative word to say. My mother has always said..If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! WOW!

BTW...The RN program is not a bridge program. IRSC got rid of their bridge program a few years ago, which really sucks for students like me!

I am currently attending Indian River State College in Ft Pierce, Florida. I like you have finished all my pre req's (like 2 years ago, lol). But I have realized from reading other posts on the school that I will stay with IRSC. I read that Exclesior is more for people who have worked in the medical field for a year or longer. I only just graduated and took my test in the last 6 months and I do not plan on working as an LPN because I am entering the RN program in January. Thanks anyway for the information! Wow......$3600 - $6000 for the program through Exclesior? That is cheaper then me going to my community college. Is is costing me $9800. Now has any of you gotten any finanical aide? Or is this all out of pocket?

OK...Question? How long are you studying for at one time? I have read in more places then one that you should only study for about 50 minutes at a time. In other words study for 50 minutes and take a 10 minute break. Study for 50 minutes and then 10 minute break. See if that works better for you. Also does your teacher use power points during lecture? if so see if there is a possibility of getting your hands on them. I think you may be burning yourself out with all the reading and outlines. Know that you are blessed to be able to take the review course. I could not afford it but I loved her book. I am starting the RN program in Jan and that will be the first book I buy and I will be using it throughout the program. I also have her patho book and really like it as well. Simplfies the body systems. Good luck on the exam! Please let us know how you did.

Ok ladies...I took the test already. Think priority, ABC's and what would you do 1st. Look at the question as "if I DON'T do this my patient will die". The NCLEX lady wants to know that you will not kill your patient. HTH!

What are you studying? How are you studying? If you know what the test is like then base your studies on that. I suggest the book Hurst Review of NCLEX. That book really is a God send. I like how she breaks down for you how to think for the "NCLEX Lady". Don't give up on your dreams. Step out on faith and let your Heavenly Father guide your steps. I took the test in Sept. All I can say is think priority. What would you do 1st. Patient teaching. Get the book called Hurst Reviews NCLEX for either PN or RN (which ever test you are taking). That is a great book and she really prepares you for the NCLEX and how to think when taking it. I took it and passed it with the computer shuting off at 85. The 1st 4 or so chapters really nails it for you and any questions you might have about the test and what to expect. Good Luck and God Bless

Hi Regrebs, I understand what you are feeling. I too have recently graduated from LPN school. At the end I realized that I did not want to be in the hospital setting either because of my children. I have always been home for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I could not get around the thought of not being able to be there for those holidays and I have not worked weekends in over 12 years. I am moving on to the RN program and I realize that without med surg experience, I pretty much went to school in vain. I will have to suck it up and do it for a few years. Look at it as a stepping stone. If you can get through it for 2 years and then you can pretty much write your own ticket almost anywhere. You may do it and realize you like it or you may get into school nursing and realize that you don't like that. Just some food for thought. Be bless in whatever you decide!:hug:

I agree with you anonymous1919. That persons comment was very rude and disrespectful. I am an LPN and I did not need extra help. Don't judge without knowing a person first. Isn't that a rule in nursing!

Here in Florida A&P I and II are not part of the LPN program either. They offer body structure and function which is the a down grade of AP I&II. All of the girls in my class had to take AP I&II in order to get into the RN program. Check around and see if any school offers AP I&II as part of the LPN program. I think that going through the LPN gives you the foundation you need for the RN program. In my class we had a few girl that remediated form the RN program. They were by no mean stupid people. The RN program is a whole different ballgame. And if you don't do your research and talk to other people that have done the RN without doing the LPN you may find yourself in a world of trouble. Hi NHanCI, I am in a similar situation. My problem that I have too many credits and no longer qualify for Fin Aide. I completed the LPN program at IRSC and graduated in June and never paid a dime out of my pocket. Contact the BCC financial aide office and see if they have scholarships. That is what I did. I am not sure about BCC but at IRSC it is all online and there are very few that have essays. It is just a matter of meeting the criteria. I got awarded $4500 from 2 different scholarships (one of which I don' even remember filling out). I hope that helps and God Bless You!
