  1. I have a cleaning lady come every other week. It helps me keep my sanity. DH and the kids aren't messy, but none of us wants to do the dreaded chores like bathrooms, vacuuming and dusting.
  2. I've had a laptop as my primary computer for several years now. I love it. I don't take it places very often, but I like that I can if I need to. Right now I'm sitting in bed with it - can't do that with a desktop. :chuckle
  3. Congrats, and best of luck on the practical. I know when I took A&P, the lab portion always pulled up my overall grade! I'm amazed you are doing this with 7 kids. I'm struggling with 2. Hats off to you!
  4. Hang in there. I know exactly how you feel.
  5. I took nutrition as an independent study class and found it to be pretty easy. Like dawn said, it's an ideal class to take online because it's straightforward.
  6. I suggest you plan out your schedule - put all your important dates into a calendar and figure out when you will have time to do everything. Online classes are so helpful though, because at least you don't have to deal with commuting to them. Just don't fall behind. If you think you can't handle all of them, be sure to drop before the drop deadline so you can get a refund. I feel for you. School for me starts on Sept. 15, it's full-time (18 credit hours), and I am trying hard not to panic too.
  7. The first one is a chemical property. If you light alcohol on fire, a chemical reaction will occur (burning), which changes the alcohol into something else (heat, smoke, etc.). The second one is a physical property. An inch cube of lead is heavier than an inch cube of aluminum. It cannot be changed. I hope your instructor gets better. I have taken chemistry with a few different instructors, and I appreciated the good ones sooooo much.
  8. I agree that is a really heavy load. You are gone from the house all day and all evening 4 days a week, plus another day? Plus homework and studying. That could make anyone weary. Is there any way you could take one of those classes another term instead?
  9. Hi there! I also live in Portland. None of these schools have waiting lists, so the average age means only that the average student's age is 24. It has nothing to do with how long it took to get in. PCC uses a lottery system, so your chances are as good as anybody's. Unfortunately, there's only about a 10% chance of being selected, so do apply there but don't pin all your hopes on it. Other programs to consider are Clackamas Community College, Mt. Hood Community College, Clark College in Vancouver. If you can travel a little farther, there is Chemeketa Community College in Salem. BSN programs are Linfield College (in NW Portland), Walla Walla, University of Portland, and Concordia, in addition to OHSU. If I were you, I would find out exactly what prereqs are required at each school (it's all on their websites) and make a spreadsheet or on paper figure out at least 3 or 4 schools to apply to. Apply to as many programs as you can since the competition is so tight. In all honesty, I do think you need to boost your GPA. I heard that the average GPA of students accepted at OHSU is around 3.7. I personally was accepted at U of P and my GPA is 3.83, and I know of people with lower grades who were not accepted there. Grades are not all they look at, but they do count for quite a bit. So increasing your GPA by getting some A's (particularly in the sciences!!!) will definitely help you, and it sounds like you have plenty of time since you have a lot of prereqs yet to take. Good luck and try not to worry. Just keep plugging away!
  10. By the way, anybody read the book "Stiff?" It's all about the curious world of human cadavers. Very interesting reading! You can find it in the paperback bestsellers section at Borders.
  11. We used a cat - one cat per table of 4 students, and used the same cats for all 3 quarters of A&P. I would have preferred a human cadaver, but my school did not offer that.
  12. I'm almost 40 too, and I'm a much better student now that I am older, than I was when I was younger. I'm more dedicated, more serious, and more organized. However, I'm not sure if the retention is as good as it used to be - but cram it into my brain enough times and I will remember it! Good luck to you - have fun! And also know that you will probably not be the oldest one in your class. That's what I was worried about when I went back, and I found other 'older' students just like me.
  13. I was in the same situation as you, and I did not retake algebra before my first chemistry class. Once I remembered my basic algebra rules, I was just fine and made A's in all my chemistry classes.
  14. I'm 39 and will be almost 41 when I graduate.
  15. awwww! i got tears in my eyes reading that! congratulations!!! :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe
  16. Loved Micro :loveya: Hated Statistics
  17. 18 quarter hours here. Three lectures and three labs. I haven't taken that many hours in a very long time, and I know it will take a lot of discipline on my part to keep a handle on everything.
  18. I had been out of school for 17 years when I went back - my first term back I planned to take A&P, not realizing how difficult it can be to get a slot. Because I was a "new again" student, I did not get priority registration and had to register a couple of weeks after everybody else. Well lo and behold, A&P was filled up. :stone I registered for something else instead, and then a week later late at night (it was the day after Christmas, I think), I checked again and ONE spot was available! Which I nabbed right away of course (and dropped the speech class I didn't want to take anyway!). The following term I had priority registration, and you better believe I was sitting at my computer hitting the refresh button at 7 a.m. sharp when registration opened. But all that hassle sure beats the heck out of standing in line, like we did in the olden days. You'd stand there in a huge line, desperately watching the registrars write "Closed" on the chalkboard next to the classes you were planning to take.
  19. Good luck you guys! Don't worry, chemistry is a lot of work but it's not that bad. There is a lot of math, so brush up on your algebra skills and you will be fine. One more thing: don't get behind - go to class and listen to the lecture, and then do your homework right away while the information is fresh in your mind. The labs can be fun - enjoy!
  20. jhoonk, I don't know where you are located, but the University of Portland (Oregon) has a new grad-entry Clinical Nurse Leader program. Here is the link: http://www.up.edu/up_sub.asp?ctnt=858&mnu=210&chl=400&lvl=2 University of Portland is a Catholic university on a beautiful campus and has a very good reputation.
  21. Congratulations! When I mailed in my application, I spent the extra $ for delivery confirmation for my own peace of mind. That doesn't necessarily prevent it being lost in the mail, but at least you will know that they received it! GOOD LUCK!!! :Melody:
  22. Loved that book! :)
