  1. There isn't anything gay about 54$ an hour. That's what new graduate RNs make in the Bay Area. Tell him that. I have had that generation of males tell me that too, I'm 25, been in nursing 3 years now. Back then it was a lot weirder for men to do nursing. Anyways. That has changed now. Plus women love male RNs. That's all that really matters! Who cares about the old farts. Go get it dude. Good luck.
  2. I cant argue anymore. Dave, look at the CDCs website and also your states website. It shows how many thousands of people die from drunk driving. Believe what you want I guess. Just because its legal it is still dangerous. What is your book called? I would like to read it. I'm talking about use marijuana recreationally. Not for medicinal purposes. I'm not trying to compare it to vicodine.. Also the only reason why people get shot over pot is because it is illegal. There is such a large demand for it and drug dealers are willing to take drastic measures to make a profit. If pot is made legal and taken off the black market then that is one very large income drug that is taken out of the drug dealers hands. You guys will just have to watch and see what happens in Colorado and Washington. Because the legislation is currently going into effect. To jwmwinter I am sorry you had a drug problem. I have a buddy who can not stop using narcotics right now. He is in denial big time. But marijuana is just so harmless. Much less than alcohol. I am a 23 yr old med surg RN by the way. Nick
  3. No your statement is wrong. THC can still be found a person's blood but they are no longer impaired. If you smoke friday you can easily go to work monday un-impaired. Its very similar to drinking alcohol. No idea what you are trying to say about DUI being the number one arrests. 80,000 people die a year from alcohol related crashes. 0 die from marijuana related anything. Thats the facts. It's on the CDCs website. Somebody please end this thread so I stop responding. Thank you.
  4. Um its not just my opinion. Why do you think two states just legalized it for adults? They are millions of people that agree with me. Your husband has probably taken more licenses away for alcohol than marijuana. I feel like I am talking to a wall when arguing with you. I'm just saying in the future its going to be legal. Like it or not. Its just not harmful enough of a drug to stay illegal.
  5. Times are changing, in ten years you aren't going to get your license taken away. It's just not going to happen. Maine is about to legalize it next. It's really too bad you lost your license for that long. It's actually awful. I hear some nurses going home after a long shift and drinking a lot of wine by themselves and falling asleep. Holy crap sounds like alcohol abuse to me. Marijuana is no where near as harmful, it's only a matter of time until its moved off of the schedule one drug list and legalized for adults. The girl with fat thumbs is living in the past and is very misinformed.
  6. Medical marijuana is just a scam. Just wait til its completely legal in Cali. It's not going to be long. Get in on the business then.
  7. You need to get with the times.
  8. its horse manure that you can't smoke on days off. just horse manure.
  9. Are you kidding me? A Nicki Minaj quote? That is awful haha. But in all seriousness, I think the older ******* nurses only discourage the new ones because it makes them feel better. If they are still on the floor at age whatever 50 or 60. They have probably applied and not gotten a few management positions. Those are my thoughts after 5 months in as a new grad on a med surg floor.
  10. Aspiring DNP student, I would not go the DNP route if I was you. There is nothing a DNP can do that a masters prepared nurse practitioner can't do. If you are serious about the DNP thing you need to look at the curriculum they follow. They aren't any better prepared medically than a nurse practitioner with a masters. They also make the same amount of money in a clinical sense. They take more theory and some more health assessment classes. It's mostly fluff classes. There is no point in going the DNP route unless you have a lot of money to spend. Also masters prepared NP programs aren't getting phased out. I just got off the phone with the CCNE and AACN. They said there was no such thing as that happening. Do some research. Get back to me if you find anything different.
  11. Private school yikes. That sure does sound like it stings. Why the heck did you do that? Also the BSN will never become the baseline. Until they make the RN boards harder anyways. There is nothing learned in a BSN program that is needed on boards. There are some management things, but most of it is common sense. I know a lot of 40-60 year old nurses that still are working on the floor that have their BSNs. They are no better than nurses with ADNs.
  12. BSNs are no smarter than ADNs. They get paid exactly the same at the facility I work at. I'm doing the University of Wisconsin Green Bays RN to BSN program and I'm taking a bunch of fluff classes. Classes like nursing theory and cultural studies. It's all common sense. I doubt I'll use much of it on the med surge floor. It just looks a hell of a lot better than a community college degree on paper. Entry level education for nurses could easily be ADN programs. BSNs are overkill no doubt.
  13. Marijuana is addicting like cheeseburgers are addicting. Its nothing like alcohol and or other narcotics. Don't put those in the same category. I also smoked all through nursing school, and smoked after studying. I have never experienced a marijuana hangover, ever. I have since quit because I wanted a job and to pass the drug test obviously, but let me tell you one thing. To quit drinking every weekend was a lot harder than quitting smoking. No crap marijuana is detectable in the urine for 30 days it doesn't mean you are high though. There are blood tests now that can detect the THC levels in the blood to determine if a person is impaired.
  14. Hey, I didn't mean to be mean. I just think that you should have went to community college instead of a private place or wherever you went. I'm getting my NP also. Good luck with school.
  15. We get an extra 20 an hour at my place of work when they have a high census. 43$/hour, not bad for a community college degree. Also if you have 50k in student loans, that is poor planning on your part. Nobody forced you to go to a university, a community college ADN, and an ADN to BSN program would have cost much less than 50 Gs.
