Leaving the nurse profession
I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. Have you only been working as a nurse for a year? What field are you interested in? What were your reasons for joining nursing? Every place that you work at will be different.

why nursing is a mess. three simple facts
Sad thing is, I still have those darn care plans with the Nursing Diagnoses. Those things are hours of my life I will never get back. The blood, sweat, tears, frustration and panic attacks those things caused!!!!

Do employers in your area consider GPA?
None of my jobs have asked for my GPA or how many times for the NCLEX. I have worked in hospitals and in clinics.I have been in the medical field for over 15 years. To me just because you passed the NCLEX the first time or have a high GPA does not make a good or great nurse. Being a great nurse is not seen by the GPA or the NCLEX, it is seen by the care, patience and humanity that we have for our patients.

Why did you pick your username?
First is what my DH does in the service, I am a wife and an RN. Just keeping it simple and to the point.

In honor of 9/11.... what was it like as a nurse?
I was in nursing school. We were in the hospital on a clinical day when it happened. We just went from room to room watching it with our patients. I also happen to be married to a military man. So, i also have the the view of a wife reeling and wondering if her husband will be coming home. I have multiple cell phone messages that day as everyone my husband worked with including my husband trying to reach. 10 years later, I still have to wonder about my husband coming home as he is deployed every year.

Noncompliant parents. Do I have any rights to protect my license?
RNC-NIC, I would say document until the cows come home. For me documenting not also is for you yet it is also for the patient that you are caring for. Regardless of what anyone else says you know what is best for you with the care for the patient. I am sure that you will make the best decisions for the patient and yourself.

My hospital is breaking the law...
When I was as a new grad, I too was paranoid. I would watch a patient with any IV push med I gave. Any IV push med I give I would want to know all things associated with it. When you are giving the med it is your responsibility to know all the information.

Things you'd LOVE to be able to tell patients, and get away with it.
Your catastrophe is not my emergency. No you can not have a friend bringing your 24-hr urine. It is not our fault your drug screens are coming up positive. Excuse us for not wanting to deliver a drug addicted baby! Birth control has been around for years, where have you been? Either he has been with someone else or you have. Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Trich, I would just sit and wait for the call from the state and pray your insides don't self destruct. No we can not just prescribe you an antibiotic over the phone. Since your mother thinks it is ok for you to wait to be seen, even though you tore something during sex and now can't walk, your mother can treat you also. Click:down:
