You will be so thankful that you took it beforehand and got it out of the way because you will be very busy your Jr. I semester!! If you are planning to start TWU full-time and have not taken patho, PLEASE CONSIDER TAKING IT THIS SUMMER! Any sacrifices you have to make in order to take this class before fall will be worth every penny and minute you spend this summer. I'm speaking from first-hand experience -- I am taking patho, along with my other Jr. I classes, and I am still regretting not taking it last fall. I'm so sorry! :icon_hug:The minimum score on the reading comp. section needs to be 55%. I'm not sure about the Houston campus, but at the Dallas campus, I was told that although the minimum on the reading comp. section needs to be 55%, that in order to be competitive, you will need a 65%. TWU will allow you to take the NET test once per application period. But other schools may allow you to take it again for the fall '08 semester, or may have another, different entrance test altogether other than the NET. So unless you want to wait to apply for the spring '09 semester at TWU in order to re-take the NET, I would apply to other schools. With that being said, I feel your pain about the reading section. I have a high GPA as well (not as high as yours!) and the reading part was tough for me (and I did study the NET Guide backwards and forwards). Don't give up hope -- you will get accepted somewhere!!

Hello, MarathonGirl ~ :welcome: I scored 100% in math, 67% in reading comp ... and my composite % was 84, so that put me in the 89th percentile. My school only considers the reading comp % (min. score of 55%) and not the math or overall composite %. Good luck to you!!

I would begin by studying in depth the Study Guide for the NET by ERI. If you understand all of the math and can answer the questions backwards and forwards easily (esp. the %), you will have no problem with the math section. The reading comprehension is a little trickier. You know yourself best as to whether you read and comprehend science-based text material quickly ... or if it takes you more time to go back over the material before you understand it (like me!). This is where you may need additional help, but there are other study guides that have science-based reading comprehension that you can look at. If I had to do it all over again, I would have prepared more for the reading comp. part and obtained multiple entrance exam books and concentrated on the reading sections to increase my reading speed. Make sure you understand main theme, inference, etc. Good luck and remember to b-r-e-a-t-h-e during the test!:)

Hello! I feel the same way you do. Sometimes I get butterflies in my stomach thinking about it. My first day of class is the same as yours. I am hoping that orientation next month will help calm my nerves somewhat (or it may do just the opposite!) I have three children as well (but no pets) and worry about keeping up with laundry and dinners. I'm not a clean freak so I don't worry so much about the house being spotless As far as dinners are concerned, I think I'm going to have to dust off the Crock-Pot and get reacquainted with make-ahead dinners. Jenny, I'm very sorry :icon_hug: The first time I applied at TWU almost three years ago, I was put on the wait list, and I did get a call about a month later saying that I had been accepted. But by then I found out I was pregnant with our third child and decided it wasn't the right time to start nursing school. So *there is* hope! It will just depend on how many students either do not accept the invitation for one reason or another or are not able to complete the prerequisites before January. So you may be getting a call as late as January. Please PM me if you need to.

Hello again! You actually have less than a minute per question (33 questions, 30 minutes). Some questions have only one paragraph. You may have to answer three questions in a row immediately after reading three paragraphs. As mentioned above, they will test you for one minute to see how far you can read into a passage. Don't let this trip you up to where you are more concerned with how far you read vs. comprehending the material. As far as I know, this one minute is part of the 33 minutes. If I had to do it over again, in addition to the NET study guide, I would have read other nursing entrance exam study guides (forgetting the math, science, etc. and concentrating on the reading comp.). Study reading comp. until you are comfortable with what you may be asked about (main idea, inference, predicting outcome). Remember to b-r-e-a-t-h-e (now and during the test )

if you study/memorize the math in the net study guide -- and know how to convert from percentage to decimals to fractions, backwards and forwards -- you will do well on the math. now, the reading comprehension is another thing. you *can* study for the reading section via the guide, but it still can be tricky. if you feel that you are a slow reader of dense, science-type material, i would suggest doing a little more work trying to increase your speed of reading/comprehending difficult material. work on main idea, inferences, and predicting outcomes based on the passage or article. the fact that it is timed is the most difficult part - it adds to the stress. less than a minute to answer each question on the reading section. the school i am applying to does not even look at the math section, only the reading score. i have a high gpa, but the reading section still knocked me for a loop. good luck to you!!!

Hello! I'm a "nontraditional" student as well with 3 young children, so you are not alone in your attempt at a career change. As little as two years ago, your GPA was the only thing that mattered at TWU (at least the Dallas location) ... but now it is GPA plus the NET test. A couple of years ago, the GPA cutoff was in the 3.7-3.8 range. Now it is down to 3.5-3.6 because of the NET test being a factor. Instead of re-taking history, I'd be prepared for the reading section of the NET test Best of luck to you :)

Absolutely! If you feel the need to speak with someone one-on-one and in person, just call 214-689-6510, wait for the "advising" prompt, and a live person will schedule an information/advising appointment for you at the Dallas location. Usually, it is a "group" meeting where other students will be there with you to hear about the program, to learn what all is involved and what is necessary in order to apply. But if you know all about the B.S. program and just need advising, when you arrive, just let them know and they might let you just do the advising ahead of the others. You sound a lot like me! I've been out of high school for 18 years, and I'm close to obtaining 120 credits at various colleges since '88 (with no bachelor's degree). I've declared psychology and social work as previous majors, and two years ago I decided to change my major, once again, to nursing. If you are a full-time student at TWU-Dallas (I'm not sure if Houston has the same schedule?), I would be very appeciative if you wouldn't mind sharing your schedule with me, as far as the number of hours/days you spend in the classroom and clinicals. A rough estimate is fine since I'm assuming each of the four semesters will vary. I'm applying this February to attend fall of '05, and I'm trying to plan how many days I'll be putting my two preschoolers in daycare. I have a feeling it'll be five days a week. Hello, everyone! I've posted a couple of times but haven't introduced myself, so here is a little bit about me. I'm a 34-year-old mom to two boys, 2 and 4 years old, living with my husband in Dallas. I have been on the 16-year college plan since I graduated from high school. I've been taking classes off/on through those years, including going to court reporting college for 3 years and was a court reporter for 6 years before deciding that wasn't going to be the career for me. I've changed majors three times (psychology, social work) and I feel like nursing will give me great job satisfaction, although realizing it will be stressful and very hard work. I will be attending a community college in the Dallas area for the next 2.5 semesters for pre-reqs, and I will be transferring to Texas Woman's University in the fall of '05 to obtain my BSN/RN, with hopefully a 2007 graduation. Hi! I am 6 months behind you (applying for the fall of '05 at TWU-Dallas), but I am having similar thoughts and concerns about the classload, especially the first two semesters. I have recently talked with someone who graduated from TWU's nursing school and she has given me a lot of inspiration and encouragement that it *can be* done (full-time) with a strong commitment to studying (which you mention you already have) and keeping up, not falling behind. She also says that having a study partner helped her tremendously. I wish I had words of wisdom (through experience) to help you feel less anxious about those two classes. I'll be going through the same worrying soon enough. I always feel like the challenges give us more strength and confidence in ourselves! Good luck to you! :)
