  3. Hi Jordan, how did you overcome groupone??
  4. I'm still waiting and I applied months ago... how did you get your student email so fast. This is the only university that has no log on to see an update that I applied to.
  5. has anyone started a fb group for those accepted into fall14?
  6. Any updates from those who left teaching to become a nurse??? How are you now if you finished nursing school?? Any regrets?? I am a nursing student thinking of going into teaching. Any and all advice would be appreciated!
  7. Cilee4, no TVCC changed their selection process regarding points. Starting Fall 2012, application period for 2013, the new point system will cap at 21. The previous cap was 13 points. You can gain additional points by taking and completing the "BSN" course, such as govt 2301 &02, hist 1302&02, art/humanities, stats, english 2 etc. By taking the additional classes and earning the points you make yourself more competitive for the program. Contact jballom for more info. He is the counselor for TVCC Kaufman.
  8. YAAAH, I made it in this fall!! Good luck
  9. Karrin I spoke with a UTA rep. It was explained that if you are partnered with a hospital FA is not available. On the flip side to that, partnered applicants have a "heads" up on non-partnered applications.
  10. Wow that kind of mix up has to be scary...you have others personal information, grades and schools. I wonder how could that happen.
  11. I personally believe this is a professional website. Nursing is a PROFESSION and this website is for nursing and aspiring nurses. We should remain professional in communication, including grammar/spelling. Others read these post to learn from others. Venting is okay if done tactful. It appears anyone who agrees with or does not have a problem with the extra classes you lash out. El Centro and other COMMUNITY COLLEGES are making the change, not just TVCC. Overall the change is being made to better equip nurses, especially since nurses can cause life or death in their patients. This should be a good thing not frowned upon because after school comes the real world. People can be killed! Back on point, if TVCC is money hungry then so are the other schools. Its not about money but about hospitals and the health field wanting better nurses. It is not nice to throw around comments like racist. From what I can see those who have posted, including myself, have tried to help you realize the changes and the benefits it can provide. I can see the initial frustration but even when Helen, from TVCC, tried to explain the changes your response to her was kind of rude. If the changes are not what you want, then there are other "job" choices. Both Princess Mama and I referred to Bachelors degrees not Associate degrees when referring to the 7 additional classes. You failed to read properly what was said. I am not a TVCC rep, I am an aspiring nursing student. Social websites like facebook or myspace would probably better benefit you for what you are expecting to hear regarding the changes in the ADN programs. Toodles!
  12. I never thought about that. Maybe you are right
  13. and i quote: the extra classes are nothing more than your basics. regardless if you get a ba (correction=bachelors) in nursing or any other degree you would still need these courses. if you decide nursing is not for you and you want to do something else your lower level classes are complete. if you look at it from that pov maybe this would be easier to swallow. run-on sentence, [color=#ffa500]cap letter, spelling, [color=#daa520]punctuation, red-vs-blue=same thing
  14. Thank you Romans8:28. I put God first in alll that I do and I know He controls everything in my life. I know the job and dollar amount He has for me will come to me.
  15. Also, maybe more than one semester of English is beneficial in being a great ADN RN... putting it politely.

  17. this is very scary. Man I hate to spend almost 12k on a career I can't enjoy. I believe in God so I am having faith it will work out. At this point that is my options because becoming a teacher is Dallas is NOT a good idea!! I guess most jobs that require an education is slim for openings. I came from the banking industry where no education other that HS diploma are needed. I burnt out on that after 3 years. Besides most people I know made no more that about 27/hour. I wanted more for myself and my family. I am truly holding out faith. He has not failed me yet.
  18. Okay, thank you... lol. Just keep in mind that if you get in without those classes, its not required. I found the info on the health science webpage. It is only used for point purposes it seems like. Therefore its not a requirement to take during clinicals, unless i read it wrong. Goodluck on your path to nursing. I hope it works out for you. Also maybe you can try the LVN route and see how that goes...keep me posted on your choice, it maybe someone out there that could use your advice.
  19. I will put every dime towards the principle on my home, then after two years ima buy my Ashton Martin!!!!
  20. This is from the previous selection not for the Fall 2012. The dates on her is 2011. Also, the current point total is 13. 8 for class, 1 for A in AnP first time, 1 for honors, 1 for 15 plus hours at TVCC, and up to 2 points on GPA. your WHOLE plan shouldn't change because at TVCC you still need the same classes. You can start now, IF YOU WANT, to get the as many extra classes in because they shouldn't be due until January.
  21. I hear your issues and concerns. I spoke my opinion on this topic since you had a survey button. I wanted to explain my reasoning. I guess, ultimately you have 3 options. One, you decided against, to get your BSN in nursing. Two, choose another school to complete your RN. Three, find another major. I guess you did not apply for or make it into the 2012 class so you can avoid the 2013 program changes. If you do not stay in TVCC district you can go to a community college for cheaper. Also, the honors point applied to ANY class of your choice, not a specific class. I took an honors course that went toward my BSN course. I took a class towards my major and got the point for TVCC. I did not pay anything extra for taking honors, it just required an extra assignment. It is not too late to switch schools and majors so that you feel better about college overall. Keep in mind that TVCC's selection process is based off points. If EVERYONE chooses NOT to take extra classes, the selection process will began at 12 points vs 21. However, I highly doubt that would be the case because others think long term toward the future. Also, being that very few people have time to take the 8 pre-reqs needed in the semester to beat the application deadline, most spend that extra time taking relevant classes. If TVCC lowers its quality of the program, I agree their reputation will take a huge hit. Did you know that El Centro gives its' applicants extra points for having outside licenses, such as CNA. Everyone do not have previous experience so they are already at a disadvantage. The cheapest CNA course I have seen is about $500 buck. Now that is something that is expensive, much more than the $270. Almost double. DCCCD, also gives extra points for your Hesi score. For those that barely made it they are at a disadvantage again. So, for those that are more book smart than a test taker and without medical experience the additional courses at TVCC will boost their chances of becoming the nurse they want to be much quicker. I hope you find the solution you are looking for regarding your situation. Just giving you other things to consider but it seems that you want to vent more than anything.
  22. I live by arlington and cedar hill
  23. no, i am not a tvcc rep. i personally dont know much about tvcc. i have looked on career builder just the other day to be exact. what prompted me to look is so many people having concerns about not finding a job. So as i looked the search results were primarily BSN of at least one year experience. Even still most want that experience. I know at my children school, to become a nurse they want at least a BSN. At the end of the day you make the same money unless you are management or some sort. Regarding the waste of honors, it will look good on a resume that you completed an honors course. I just feel that their is more than one side to the coin. I take it that you feel lied to, or took an honors course that won't count.... well all is not lost. yes im sure it sucks to have something new thrown your way, but being in the work field, i learned that its always something new companies want. I will apply this same theory to school. its always a new technique. I mean if all else fail, apply for BSN program, its the same amount of time as tvcc and other community college. Just keep in mind any and all schools, rather 4 year or 2 year, have to maintain their reputation. Therefore they have to stay up with what is going on. If not there students wouldnt get hired and once the bad news travel fast no one would apply. Now, im sure you can find a job somewhere, and your chance increases the better you do in clinicals. Preparing yourself for a BSN is not a bad idea but then again its up to the individual. good luck
  24. cword31, i got in i see you did too CONGRATS, look forward to meeting you
