Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
I hear ya! Since I posted this thread I went through so many WORSE math problems than the type I posted here! It was tough, but I got through it and ended up with a B+ in the class. Hang in there and read through this thread. There is a lot of useful info here. I liked purplemath.com the best personally. I would literally just sit there and do problems over and over and OVER again until I got them right! You can do it!!! :)

Summer school anyone?
I just finished taking Algebra last week (five week class). It was brutal! Four days a week, for three hours a day and anywhere from 2-4 hours of studying/homework each night! Not to mention a "quiz" every single day! Took my final last Wednesday and ended up with a B+ in the class (REALLY good for me in Math). I was a little bummed about missing the A by 2 points! Oh well... I'll take my B+ and run! Glad it's over!

My life is so hopeless right now!
Please do not give up on life! Life sometimes throws us some very unpleasant curve balls and it's through these difficult times that we learn so much. For the time being (as other posters have suggested) you should research your county/state's provisions for those in need. Look up your local Department of Social Services there are benefits that you may qualify for until you get back on your feet. Medicaid, food stamps, housing assistance, cash assistance and some counties also help with utility bills such as electric, gas, water, etc. It's very possible that if some of these financial burdens were lifted you might feel better mentally. Stay strong, do some research, get some help and then find yourself an awesome job! You can do it!!! :)

Salary on offer letter different than verbal offer
The signed contract is the binding offer. Period. With contract law, unless both parties stipulate (both agree) to ANOTHER agreement.... the signed contract is what remains.

First job in aesthetics?
Esthetics as an RN is quite lucrative. The LHR clinic that I managed paid our RN somewhere around $150 per hour to do injectables (botox, juvederm, etc.). She was not required to do LHR, SR, etc. -- the techs did that. I have no idea whether this will impede your career path in the future but I'm sure some of the current nurses could answer that for you. One final thing -- the LHR company I worked for was also a "nationwide laser hair removal company." It may not be the same company but, if by chance it is -- I strongly suggest you do thorough research before accepting a position with them. I wish you much luck! :) digoe

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
yes, fractions in general tend to intimidate me. But when dividing/multiplying fractions w/ whole numbers my current prof suggested turning them into improper fractions first -- which helped me A LOT! Thanks, you are correct there are some things that I need to review. Unlike you, math has NEVER been a strong point for me (your are lucky!) Sometimes I feel like I am missing a part of my brain bc I remember things long enough to take a test and then I forget them! Sigh....

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
Hi there! Thanks for responding. Yes, this class is VERY fast-paced. We learn a new topic and then are tested on it the next day. My class only runs 5 weeks and today began week three! I spend 3 hours in class, 4 days per week and THEN I have anywhere (depending on how confused I am with the topic) from 2 - 4 hours of studying/homework to do. It's intense... to say the least! I am going to try to tough it out. I do have the option of taking it again in the next summer session which starts in July (should I fail this one) but hopefully I will not have to do that. I did check out my professor at ratemyprofessor.com and she has mixed reviews -- I have to say that so far -- I like her. She is very fair and seems to have unlimited patience. So, we shall see! Keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks again and good luck to you as well!! digoe

My 5-Year-Old Son
That was so sweet! What an amazing little man you are raising and he obviously adores you! Be proud -- he will grow up to be one of the "nice guys" and he won't be finishing last either!

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
Yep yep! It was 30. the professor when over those types of problems today (starting w/ a whole number) and now I'm totally clear! thanks so much for taking the time to help me!

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
Thank you! The answer is 30 or -30 I don't remember now... I tried to do it and STILL got it wrong I know I'm doing something silly wrong (prof. has pointed out I'm just making minor mistakes) but I ended up with 5 as the answer. I work in a program called mathxl.com and when you get an answer wrong twice the system changes the problem and gives you the answer to the problem you were working on...so that's how I know my answer is wrong. I will go over it tomorrow w/ the prof. -- thankfully she is VERY helpful! :) considering how hard math is for me a/o right now I have an 80 average (good for me in math) so I will just keep plugging along! thanks again!

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
Thanks for your reply. I will check out that site. Right now I am struggling with things that look like this: 5 - 1/15x = 1/10x I already emailed my professor w/ this type of problem as I have been doing pretty good these past few days w/ the fractions in algebra BUT this problem and ones like it throw me off when they start w/ a whole number.

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
Thanks. I just looked up "algebra 1 help" on youtube and got a ton of hits. Was there a particular search you entered to find a good video(s) that helped you?

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
Thank you for your response. I will check out that site as well as hitting the book store. Like I said, I will spend just about anything to pass this class even if it means private tutoring ! Do you know the names of the books you purchased that are "dumbed" down a bit for we laymen? If you happen to know them and would post them I would greatly appreciate it ! I need all the help I can get! I have not taken algebra since HS which was quite a few years ago for me... Thanks again. D

Algebra STRESS and HELP!!
I am taking an algebra course which was required by the CC I am attending for my prereqs to take A&P. It was required as I did not do so well in the placement exam in the Math portion. So... I am taking it over the summer so that I can start A&P I in the fall. I AM STRESSING OUT!!! BIG TIME! I am studying, practicing, etc. and still having a hard time. I have always struggled with Math so this is nothing new. My professor is pretty good but, I must say BUT the pace of this class is far quicker than I had expected! This is the first summer class I have taken. My question is this: what sites, books, etc. have any of you found to help you get through a class like this one? Our class operates on a system called mathxl.com -- all of our tests, and homework are on this system as well as practice tests, etc. Has anyone found anything that helped you to get through this course? I am willing to spend just about anything to help at this point as I have only *just passed* the two tests we have already had (in three days of school). Any suggestions, advice, etc., would be much appreciated!!! Thank you!!!! :)

Is it possible to retake a class?
With most schools you may repeat a course to bring up your grade BUT, how it generally works is that the D+ never completely goes away -- it will be averaged into your GPA. So, if you plan to retake it push for an A! Like I said this is generally how it goes but talk to a counselor in your school to be sure. Lotsa luck to you! :)

I just have to say this....
I can only hope that when it come time for me to find employment that I am fortunate enough to find a position with a facility like this one. I think these ladies/gents need a 'dose' of reality!

Cosmetic procedures office RN
The RN is not there FT; only once or twice a week. The clinic probably sells about 20k - 30k per month in injectibles the other 70k - 80k in LHR/SR/ST , etc.

Insomnia
I have been dealing with insomnia on and off for about 15 years now and I know how debilitating it can be. The key to curing insomnia is learning whether it is psychological or physical. In my case -- it's psychological. My mind races, I think about everything and anything as soon as my head hits the pillow. Here are a few things that have helped me. A bedtime routine -- sounds corny but it helps. I start with chamomile tea and dimming the lights. Get to bed around the same time every night, listen to those cd's if they are helping you, make sure your bed is as comfortable as possible and make sure you do not try to force yourself to sleep. If you feel tired but not sleepy, read or do something else that is calming to you. If things are racing through your head try writing a list before you go to bed. I do this and call it my "worry list". I write everything down that is on my mind so that I can 'remember' (not that I could actually forget) to worry about those things tomorrow. It's sort of a psychological trick you play on yourself. This helped me TREMENDOUSLY ! Finally, when all else fails I have taken Ambien 10 mg. It works for me but some ppl have a terrible 'hangover' feeling the next day. Also, I know you said you have taken melatonin but have you ever tried sublingual melatonin in liquid form? I was shocked at how much more effective it was than the traditional tablet form. Hope some of this helps. Be well.

Cosmetic procedures office RN
It was for a large nationwide company -- and I believe she found us on Monster.com :)

Cosmetic procedures office RN
NO you would not have spent a dime LOL! the procedures LHR/SR/ST and the botox/ fillers WERE FREE for the RN and for management! Staff, like the technicians, had to pay only for the products themselves which for botox was only $12 per unit! :) ok... not hijacking here... carry on!

Cosmetic procedures office RN
I'm also a licensed esthetician and managed a large LHR facility where injectables ( we did not do surgical procedures) were preformed by the RN that worked there. Her hourly wage was either $145 per hour or $175 per hour. I can't recall exactly. She ONLY did the injections -- no LHR no SR (the estheticians did that). She also had about 10 years' experience so you have to factor that in. Hope that helps a little.
