Salary for home healthcare nursing
Yes, you should definitely understand why PSA pays what they do. They have a set salary range based on reimbursement rates. They are not going to be the same as a hospital rates, that's just something you need to know going in. The pay rates are determined by the reimbursement rates from Medicaid, which in most cases haven't been increased in years. In fact, most of them have been decreased. Since the majority of their patients receive assistance from this program, Medicaid is what sets the pay rates, not what the nurses ask to be paid. Additionally, in a hospital or other setting, you are working with multiple patients to contribute to the bottom line. At PSA, you're working with only one patient in their home. Most nurses at PSA work part-time in addition to another position. They like it for the flexibility and the training, plus the one-on-one care you just don't get in a hospital.

PSA Healthcare interview...advice???
i work at the corporate office of psa healthcare.when someone tells you about their experience working with psa, be sure to ask when they worked for psa. admittedly, the company wasn't as amazing just a year and a half ago. however, we have recently changed our leadership, both in multiple locations and at a corporate level. we have worked incredibly hard to focus on quality of care and we can't do that without our wonderful nurses.

Laundry should never be a required task for nurses. Please be sure to let me know if you have been asked or required to do domestic tasks, like laundry or cleaning.

Salary???
As far as salary goes, you should take into account that some of these companies are being reimbursed by government programs. Most of the time, they aren't even being paid what some nurses get working in hopsitals ($35-$45/hr). You're also working one-on-one with a patient so that's something else to take into account when you learn about per hour pay for home health.

Inaccurate story on CNN?
You should reply to CNN with your comments! Nurses need to get their credit as well. As a major news sourse, I think they would be happy to know how to be more accurate.

Thank you, nurses
I absolutely agree. Our nurses are so underappreciated for all of the hard work and time they put in. I hope they know that they absolutely matter, even when it feels like no one cares. :redbeathe

PSA Healthcare
someone did send me a private message regarding our florida locations and i apologize, my account is not yet approved to reply to private messages. however, the answer to your question is yes, the pay situation in florida is a little better than it was two years ago. however, the issue here is reimbursement rates. there has not been an increase in medicaid rates for 23 years. psa is lobbying state officials in attempts to raise these reimbursement rates. we haven't been successful as of this post, but we continue to push for it.

Any success stories in Tennessee?
I know that it wasn't in your original question, but as far as a job is concerned, some places will take the convictions into account, depending on what they are and how they relate to the position you are applying for. For instance, a home health agency might not hire you if you were violent towards someone or stole medications. They might even have a company policy about it. Just a heads up! Congrats on graduating!!

Guys: what made you want to go into nursing?
My best friends has a 6'2'' 200lb epileptic brother. They can ONLY have male nurses at the house to help out. I can only say that there are not enough of you!! Nurses never get enough credit, but more specifically, male nurses are so underappreciated.

Hiring Managers can you explain this to me...
If they can't hire anyone, I don't think they should be scheduling interviews. Whether or not the DON needs a nurse, he needs to take a step back and realize that just because he interviews someone doesn't mean he'll automatically get the O.K. Unfortunately, some companies don't have a good line of communication to their corporate headquareters. He is only frustrating himself and the applicant!

Am I the only one?!!
I hate to quote a Jeep commercial, but whatever happened to the thought that what you do says something about who you are? When did hard work get replaced with 'just enough to get by?'

PSA Healthcare
i work at the corporate office of psa healthcare. i know these posts are outdated, but we have changed our leadership, both in multiple locations and at a corporate level. we have worked incredibly hard to focus on quality of care and we can't do that without our wonderful nurses. that being said, if any of you are still having experiences like this when interviewing or working at psa, i want to know about it because it is not in the scope of what you should be doing as a home healthcare professional. please private message me, reply back to this comment or contact me via our company website if you encounter any of these issues at a location.
