  1. That is absolutely insane!!. When will you sleep? study? There is no way in heck that I would take on that schedule. You are setting yourself up for major burnout. Just my thots.
  2. Ha!!...RNLisa....that is way too funny that your instructor would stand up and yell Shut up!!!! Now I would have loved to see that lol...and so she should if her class is being rude...Ya well, my instructor used to show up for important classes in tears and then launch into a 15 minute diatribe against her hubby whom she had just had an arguement. You wanna waste my time bawling about your personal life on my dime???? (I used to think.....c'mere......let me give you sumpin to cry about......:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Sure sounds like I am not alone in having a class like this eh? LOL...You guys cheered me up so much and made me giggle too. Thanks again everyone for your insight. Today I am actually looking forward to going back just so I can giggle to myself and enjoy my learning:icon_hug: :icon_hug: :icon_hug:
  3. Thanks Daytonite....you have been a blessing for me in your unwavering support and help with all my questions. I know I can count on you and the others on this board to see me through. Thanks again!!
  4. You're right Suzy!! Thanks for the kind words and support
  5. I am dreading going back to school next week.....not so much because the things I will be learning will be far harder than first year but because I am an older student and found last year that my classmates were the nastiest, uncooperative, jealous, most competitive group of snipes I have ever had to meet. (Although I have met nasty women where I have worked before). Group work last year was agonizing. I slaved my orifice off with group projects and had to deal with lazy, immature partners. Cliques formed.....I was left out of everything. The instructor proved to be the most disorganized, immature, giggly, unprepared bonehead that I have ever had to deal with. The stress in the classroom was insane!!. Students were always jockeying for position and there was much fighting and arguing. Alliances formed and thats when the kids grew nasty. Gawd I so dread going back......I wonder too if my health will hold up under all the crap. Thank gawd for allnurses because no one here judges me on my age, my knowledge and my work ethic. No one here teases or taunts me as I try to get thru paralyzing oral presentations ( and me with anxiety and panic attacks).....and I can always find comfort from all of you when I was snubbed by my fellow classmates the entire year for who knows what reason. I could definately use some kind words and a hug as I get ready for slaughter again in my very small class (14 students) and very young instructor. Cuz, as strong as I think I am, I cried so many tears last year and was so extremely frustrated with the disorganized chaos, gossip, childish behaviour etc etc.....that I wanted to QUIT QUIT QUIT!!! Tell me I can make it thru, to ignore the crap in class, to revel being ostracized and left out of everything and to enjoy my own quiet time. Tell me that I will never have to see half these snipes ever again once school is out LOL...and reassure me that I can do this!!!. Thanks,
  6. It is a hard course. But do-able. And it is quite an interesting course. The only way I managed to get through it was review, review, review...the bones are okay, I found the muscles the hardest part. You will get thru it. One day at a time.
  7. Bala do you mind if I ask you how old you are?
  8. 43: You totally forget to make breakfast, lunch and dinner....get groceries, feed the cats..... 44: Anyone knocking on your front door annoys the heck out of you and you stand there tapping your foot while you talk to them because you have to get back to Allnurses.com.
  9. What I do when copying good information that I find on threads is....I highlight the message and then copy paste it to a Word document...then I print it off. That is the only way I have found to avoid getting all the extraneous information like advertisements. I have a binder made already with info I have found on this site LOL.
  10. Oh I thought you meant in the patient's bedside drawers. Sorry my bad. I wonder why such a huge turnover in staff? Sure sounds strange that meds would be found back in the drawers eh? Makes me wonder as a student how on earth a person can prove they gave out all the meds?? This is a tough one .....hope someone can help you out.
  11. Dimensional analysis (and thank goodness we are not asked to use this)...confuses the life out of me. I love ratio/proportion and I also LOVE Pickars doseage calculations book. If someone on this board posts a calc question and the answers all come in using DA...I don't even bother reading the answers because it makes zippo sense to me. Ratio/Prop or Dose avail/dose on hand for me allllll the way!!
  12. Just curious as a student here but.....do you not stand there and wait to see if your patient takes their pills? Is this in a LTC environment? As a student in the LTC clinical I noticed that none of the nurses stood by to watch the residents take their meds. I was forever finding cups of meds at bedsides or in residents laps or on floors. But then....some residents have 15 meds and some take foreeeeeeeeeever to take them. Then what is the nurse to do? Is there time to watch each resident take every single med? I sometimes wonder how we are supposed to follow all the rules. Maybe your patient was hording them? Hope things work out for you...I would be freaked out too.
  13. that link you posted for chatanooga state videos looks good but i cannot get the videos to work. i registered and enter my name and password but that doesn't seem to help...too bad because it is an awesome site.
  14. hmmm...I think a student really ought to know how to study by the time they get to college...not sure why one would expect the instructor to show someone how to study... I also think it is important especially as a nursing student to have the attitude that "The more I know, the better nurse I will be for my patient". I hope that you are not advocating that students only learn the bare essentials necessary to pass. I read everything I can get my hands on and spend a lot of time trying to figure out things on my own. I do not rely on my instructors to hold my hand ....That being said, I think the OP was wanting to know why it is that nursing schools see such a huge drop out rate.....if all nurses or nursing students took on the attitude of learning "Just what you need to learn in order to pass".yikes pity the poor patient....I hope the OP sees from all the replies that nursing school is extremely hard work and those that work hard can become exceptional nurses.
  15. I would hesitate to use a debit card online. I don't think you have any recourse if someone steals your debit card info...but I'm not sure. It is safer to use your visa or mastercard online...( nothing is really all that safe)..at least that way if someone steals your info, and you notify the card company, you might have some backup when it comes to retrieving any loss you may have incurred. Be very careful how you use your cards on the net. Make sure the site is a secure one. My mom got scammed one time, but Visa helped her out because she was able to report it immediately. With the debit card, you are hooped.
  16. LOL....LadyT are you following me? hehe...just kidding. Ya....what ladyT just said that I just said
  17. Students drop out for many reasons. One reason might be that they did not anticipate how much work it was going to be. Another reason might be that "Life" problems cropped up unexpectedly, and another reason might be that they simply find that it is not for them. Later on, the students dissapear simply because they were asked to leave, or could not make the grades. The only student that I worry about is "Me". Although at times it can be intimidating to watch your classmates drop like flies. Does that answer your question?
  18. Whadda Guy!!..Hey Happynurse2005...you got a keeper there:rotfl: and slingamabob...I told ya so LOL LOL... What a sweet post.
  19. Ask her......women like that!!
  20. Daytonite told me the answer to this, so I will post it. The drip chamber keeps the "air" out of entering the tubing. (hope that is right).. ;)
  21. If it means your record is expunged of the F and replaced with a W...I would not hesitate to write him or call him. After all...colleges place a lot of importance on previous marks. Explain that to him when you call him and tell him that you felt it was important that you contact him...I am pretty confident he will understand and take steps to help you out. Good luck in all you do.
  22. Ahhhhhhhh.......I totally get it now...thanks kindly for your explanation.
  23. Just getting over a wicked chest cold ....so can finally breathe again. Time for the old treadmill again. I am down the 2 I was down when I started but what I am finding is this dern 2 lbs goes on, comes off, goes back on, comes off...Once I see progress then I get uplifted only to get down about gaining it back...prolly water...BUT...it is sure getting close to the end of this plan eh? with school looming in a few more weeks. I am trying not to get too bummed out that I am no where near the goal I set...but I don't plan on stopping once school starts. I will just keep pluggin away. Thanks for stoppin in Allthingsbright!!:icon_hug:
  24. Perfect!!!.....Thanks...and yes, duh, I would get the answer immediately!!! (didn't think I was given that opportunity to go find it) Reason I asked is because.....my first clinical experience way way back in the 80's, the instructor had absolutely no qualms about pitching a fit or humilating students in front of family, patients or whoever happened to be standing there. She was a terror and I ended up quitting school over it.. Thanks kindly for your tips.
