Feeling discouraged
Well, the average adult goes through 5 careers in a lifetime. Having said that, some go into nursing in and love it, some go in kinda liking part of it and some don't at all. Nursing will require all your effort and requires everything you got. nothing but full commitment to it will get you kick out of the nursing program.

Too smart for my own good... :-/
Well especially being on orientation, just like the previous poster said. It does not hurt to be humble and say thank you. It s just like nursing school; you have to fake it till you make it. Op, you may be right that the preceptor might not necessarily be 100% sure of them self, and they despise being challenge. Or it could of have been your unknown self to you that other sees. Vice versa, change and self perception and awareness can make you grow.

Im new to all this! How to become a nurse
One year licensed lpn all over the country and particularly California have been phasing out lvn in the acute care hospital setting. Perhaps in rural area but having an ADN or Bsn in nursing will secure your chances of working in labor n delivery. Of course having the bsn will definetly give you the best chance to get a job period vs ADN.

1st Job Interview ...Discouraged
To me, it feels like the candidate after you took a shining to the manager and unfortunately he or she was chosen instead of you. Take it as a learning experience to have under your belt. Perhaps the other candidate have a Rn licensed already or more certifications ie acts, pals etc... Focus on studying on your nclex, get the licensed and then you be an ideal candidate.

How long after a job offer is orientation typically?
I recently accepted an ER position beginning of January and was told orientation will be starting 2/4. so it s about 30 days for me. it took the department manager 1 week ish to get the paperwork to hr and then another 1-2 weeks for background check. finally, one week for physical and hr stuff.

Should I become a nurse ?
Nursing is not easy, after 1 to 2 years to pre-requiste, wait another 1-2 years to get in and it takes a minimum of 2 years in most community colleges for the RN degree. so that's 4-6 years for an Associate degree. It's not like a traditional job where you go to college for 2-4 years get an associate/bachelor and find a job. Nursing school takes commitment and dedication. Passing is about 78%+, one has to perform in academics (classroom) and/clinical(in the hospital). I am not writing this to dissuade you, but to warn you it s not for everyone.

Need some advice on LVN programs!
LVN school can be practical for some to use as a permanent bridge or temporary one. For some, working is essential and having children is even more difficult to do a two-year RN program. On the other hand, with the lVN license, one can work sooner and be able to continue on to RN school later on. Some people can only take several shallow breaths and has to go up and breathe while some younger lungs are able to hold their breath for a whole minute.

I'm affraid im going to fail RN school again..:(
Rico, congratulation on finishing LPN school and getting into RN school. You made it this far and everything is clicking. you said it your self you were lost before in RN school but now it making sense. for some it does not make sense even at the last semester of RN school. So accept the fact that as of now you journey gave you so much insight and now you know exactly what you need to suceed in nursing school. You must believe it, want it enough, work for it, which you already did for LPN school. ROCK RN school, Rico.

Failed NCLEX the 4th time feeling VERY down.
hey RedDogs, you know what separates maturity and immaturity? its all about getting up when your down. no matter how many times you have fallen, it really counts when you actually get up. the will to set your mind is one of life greatest blessings. hold you head high as you made it this far, some people cannot even get into a RN school, but no you did that. some people cannot not even pass nursing school, but no you did that. so what's the next thing that you will do? pass the NCLEX. go fighting my fellow Nurse.

My lament....my turn
It s hard to keep your head high when life is in the way( ie..getting a job). I usually give myselfself 10 minutes each day to feel sorry for myself...after that...I tilt my head high and think happy. Negativity is very contagious, if you feel bad, then for example; you probably wont go to the hospital down the street where you will actually get hired if you show up..:)
-
Starting to feel like my ADN was a mistake
chin up, brother, your time to shine will soon blossom. apply to all known hospitals and skill nursing facilities in your area. Call them and ask HR about new grad RN position. I have been applying for the last 3 weeks and only give myself 5 minutes each day to let the negative emotions out. Negativity you see will spread very quickly, like a fire in a dry forest. stay positive brother. we are not too different, ADN and proud of it.:) on a good note, i just got an interview for an OR position at a hospital 50 miles away.:)
