Good to be a bit scared. It is a hard program!! And you will lose students along the way. Mrs B is hard core old school nurse. Believe it when she tells you how many hours you will spend studying. My best tip to you is do NOT procrastinate. It will kill you. Stay on top of your homework and projects. And develop a good study habit from day one. Go home after class every day and reread your notes. What field do you want to work in. There are not tons of jobs out there like they would like you to believe. Most students end up in nursing homes. Do you plan to continue to get your RN?? There are way more jobs available for RN than for LPN. I wish you good luck in your journey. Ok, this has come up in the news recently so I thought I would bring it up here. There are even recipes on the internet and videos on You Tube. Women eating their placenta after birth. Either cooked or freeze dried and put into capsules. Have any of you had a patient that wanted to do this or has done this??? Val OB/GYN office LPN--Central FL

I am enrolled in the one through Orlando Tech. All online except for a competency demonstration at the end.. and that is done on dummy. TECO offers it but I am not about to let my classmates practice sticking me. LOL Best of luck!! Val

Based on what I know of the local market, FL hospital is trying to achieve magnet status for their main hospital... (their peds Hosp is already Magnet)... So they only want BSN RN as their lowest level of care... But as mentioned before, St Cloud Hosp and Osceola Reg. sometimes hire LPN's to work on the floors. I would gladly sell/give you my books.. if they are the current edition. It seems like they update the edition every year or two so they can make everyone buy new books. LOL I know theA&P book changed with the class after mine. I don't know about Fundamentals, Med-Surg or Peds/OB. Once you get into the program and find out what edition they are using, feel free to send me a msg about the books. I know that several people in our class bought books from the class that graduated before us and saved a lot of money. I was in the full time day program.. but based on what I know.. the night program does all their clinicals on weekends. Classes are on week nights and then clinicals on Sat. Sun. Val

Adding to Stacy..I graduated from TECO in July.. St. Cloud Hosp also hires LPN.. Hospital pay for LPN is usually $14-$14 an hour. There is more money and much more job options if you want to work NH. For those of us that do not want to work LTC, it has been a bit harder to find word. Most Dr. offices hire MAs now. Fortunately there are a lot of jobs for new grads right now doing flu shots. But of course that is temporary and seasonal. Best of luck to you! Val

I started applying before I took boards and no one would even talk to me. I passed boards almost a year ago and have had 3 interviews. I finally got a temp job doing flu shot clinics and a per diem home health. Things seem to be getting a bit more difficult. Even the NH is getting hard to get jobs with. Most of my class mates (7/2011) haven't gotten jobs yet.

I don't know how much this will help... but.. when I was doing clinicals at the local health dept. I had a pt come in that was 15 yoa and seeking birth control for a second unwanted pregnancy.

True!!! But that has nothing to do with the level of patient care!

Good job!! It takes a lot to respond to an emergency situation without thinking of yourself or the legal reprecussions!!! Sounds like you definetly have a cool head and a future in emergency services!! Dont' let this call get you down!! The fact that you responded in an emergency situation without hesitation says a lot for your character!!! Good JOB!!! Don't let anyone get you down!!!

I can't tell you anything about the HESI.... I took the TEAS.. sorry.. However... I graduated in 7/11 from TECO and took and passed my boards the following month!!! So, now I am just a lisenced LPN loooking for a job that is NOT in a NH!!! Best of luck to you!! Val Donovan

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!! I Passed!!!!! OMG!!! Still can't believe it!!! Not gonna' lie, I was skeptical of this trick!! And my hubby was convinced it would not work. BUT IT DID!!! I got the good pop-up, and the next day was able to verify my exam on the FL DOH website and yesterday my license number was listed!!!!!! I am officially an LPN now!!!! :anpom: :hpygrp: :dncgbby: Val LPN!!!

Took NClex PN today!! Turned off around 85 questions. The test was insane!! Lots of SATA!!! Did the Pearson Vu trick and got the "good" pop up!!! Hoping to get official results tomorrow from FL BON!!! Will definitely post the offical results!!!! Val

The day program is 11 months. Mon-Fri 7:30-2:00.. lunch 11:15-12:00 You will start clinicals after about 6 weeks of school. Clinicals will be Th and Fr from 6:30-1:30 and will be at either Osc Health Care or Avante NH in St. Cloud. Tests are almost every day, especially for the first couple of months. Use your powerpoints to help you study. Figure out what your study style is... many people use flash cards, some people do study groups.. others study better alone. You will have your first test on day 3 and will have a test almost every day after that for the first couple of months. There is 1 presentation or paper per module. Your first course will be "Core" then "Fundamentals." After those you will get A&P and Pharmacology. Mrs. B will be your main instructor in the begining. The program is very intense but it is NOT impossible!! Do not let yourself ever fall behind. And do NOT procrastinate!! Be ready to work HARD!! It is a very good program!!
