  1. Has anyone taken this exam in 2018. Most of the forums seem to be geared towards the FNP exam. I would appreciate any tips any one may have.
  2. Welcome. My advice is to keep an open mind and make sure you do not fall behind in your studying because that will be reflected in your grades. Practice lots of question on the topics you are learning in class. Personally what has helped me the most is using NCLEX books like Saunders . They explain the topics in a simpler way and have practice questions for you to do. I am in my last semester of Nursing school and have been doing well all along.
  3. My Peds class was also 5 weeks. And it was the toughest rotation for me and the majority of my classmates. There was just too much information to learn and the teaching wasn't all that helpful. My Lowest grade this semester was from my Peds test. But Lucky for me I did great in OB and Psych and my school drops the lowest exam grade if you pass the final. And I know I passed the final with flying colors. But let's just be happy it's over for NOW until we have to review it again for exit exams and NCLEX.
  4. I am in an RN program and graduate in JUNE(HOORAY) I have 2 jobs. One is part time and the other is a per diem position at a hospital. So I work my part time job 3 days out of the week and my per diem when I feel I have extra time. It is definitely doable, stressful yes but you can do it. BUT if you have the support at home and do not really need to work during your program Don't work. I sure wouldn't :-)
  5. Get Nclex books and use them as you go through the semester especially the practice questions. They will help with test taking.
  6. Yes I am in NJ and it is quite depressing to think about, That is why I got a job in a hospital so by the time I graduate hopefully I will be able to get a job there!!! Every chance I get I network and make connections with nurses I meet that are in managerial positions so when I graduate I have somewhere to begin looking.
  7. The job market in jersey is very tough. I know ADN's who still don't have jobs as well as BSNs as well. I was told it is all about who you know. I was also told it is easier if you become some form of an employee at the facility you would like to work at such as a Nursing Assistant or tech. Because then you become an internal applicant. Just like everyone else, I truly hope I find a job when I am done school next June!!! Good luck to us all!!!
  8. this is definitely a tough one. Truly it all depends on the school. I am also looking at places where I can continue my education and most places want the school you came from to be accredited by NLN or CCNE. One of the girls in my RN class now is already an LPN and had to start from the beginning with us because the school she went to was board certified by the state but not by NLN or CCNE. Best bet is to call the school and see what their admissions criteria are before applying.
  9. 94-100= A 87-93= B 80-86= C anything below 80 is failing
  10. I have had many foreign teaches and never really had a problem. I realized you can not blame a teacher for how you do in classes. Especially since this is nursing, I'm pretty sure the information is the same no matter where you go. Just as one of my teachers told me " If you think you can just come to class , listen and pass you are mistaken. You have to go home and read the text book, do practice questions, etc"
  11. @Tab11 for the fall your schedule will most likely be Monday 9-12 fundamentals Tuesday 830-11:30 fundamentals 12:00 to 1 pm pharmacology. That's for everybody Here is where it gets tricky. Based on your clinical group on either Monday Tuesday or Wednesday you will have skills lab from 1-3pm If you get Monday skills lab you have clinical Wednesday so you get thurs and Friday off. If you get Tuesday skills lab you will get thurday clinical and have wed and Friday off. If you get unlucky like I was you get wed skills lab you have to come in on Friday for clinical which only leaves you with only thurs off 2 uniforms will definitely last you. if you want extras just get some more white pants elsewhere much cheaper than getting them from the uniform place.
  12. you are very welcome
  13. I would advise you to take the chem during the fall semester because the material for Med Surge spring semester is much more involved and harder.
  14. Awww I definitely remember being excited to start as well. You will do fine as long as you stay on top of things. Don't be scared. as always feel free to ask questions!!!
  15. Saunders is great and so is Kaplan. Other than that you don't really need much else besides your books and practicing questions from an NCLEX book. I found myself using youtube a lot especially when we started getting into Medical/Surgical Nursing. Whatever topic or illness we discussed I just looked up an animation on youtube to help me understand it better.
