Medi Tech...Who slept with Who? Vent.
In the middle of building and implementing the 6.0 version and have found it to be very nurse friendly and easy to use. Sounds like everyone is right and maybe it is time for an upgrade! Good Luck!!!

Who else love's their 12's?!
I love 12's! I did them for 3 years then thought I wanted 8-5 Monday through Friday and did that for 4 years and realized my mistake. Now I have been back on 12's for almost a year and haven't had to use one hour of PTO! Working just 3 days a week is awesome! I do agree with FancypantsRN though, when you are working nights its not the same . Luckily I am on days now. On my off days I clean house. I cook big dinners for my family. I scrapbook and just enjoy some alone time :)

CA new grad RN wants to volunteer in Alabama at disaster sites
i live here in north alabama and although my neighborhood was not hit i am surrounded by devestation. it is heartwarming to think that someone all the way in california is willing to come and help. big hugs and thanks to you for the kind thoughts. :redpinkhe please do keep all those who lost so much in your thoughts and prayers. i have never seen anything even close to this. it is heartbreaking. this will be a long, slow process and i'm sure many opportunities will continue to become available. you can go to the website for the alabama department of public health and register as a volunteer. the govenor has also instituted a volunteer program through the state888-421-1266. according to the address by the governor today this is a category 1 natural disaster which is what katrina and 911 were.

Nursing doesnt define you
This is a great thread! I am rather quiet but everyone calls me smiley. I try to enjoy everyday with my husband and daughters (they are growing so fast). I LOVE to cook, and to read. I'm hoping a Kindle is in the near future for me (perhaps Mother's Day lol). I absolutely adore college football! Roll Tide!!! I love reality shows as well - can't help it they're addicting Camping, walking, and playing a mean game of Texas Hold Em. All these things are part of me just like nursing. I am proud though to be called a nurse and it makes me feel all warm inside when my family says this is my wife, mother, sister, daughter.....she's a nurse!

ALWAYS called to work on days off?
I know this post is several months old but just wanted to say thanks to all the responders. This happened to me today, my unit called and asked me to come in. I was off last night after three in a row and I go back tomorrow night and I just didn't want to go in. I told them no that I wanted to hang out with my family and they did not seem very happy. I was feeling guilty until I read all these posts. Y'all are right. I didn't do anything wrong. Thanks again!

Who's leaving nursing?
I do hope that I am able to find my niche in nursing and rekindle the passion and drive that I had. I know its in me and I :redbeathe nurses! Here's to hoping that we all find our way and are able to benefit our patient's the most and be happier ourselves.

Who's leaving nursing?
It is an old thread but you are right still very relevant. 6 months ago I left homecare and returned to the hospital after 5 years because I thought I was burnt out just in homecare; however, I quickly discovered I may just be burnt out period. I am miserable at the job I have now and am actively pursuing others. I worked as a psych tech many years ago and always said I would go back to psych. I have not had any luck getting a job though. I am also interested in OR nursing and have made some contacts regarding a perioperative training program and if the transfer I put in for the psych ward does not go through, that will be my next choice. If I don't get into that program I will probably look at leaving nursing at least for a while. I never would have thought it. I was so eager and inspired

Am I the only one?!!
I think alot of it has to do with lack of consequences. For instance I live in the South and we had a very unusual winter with several snow and ice storms. Hospital management made it very clear that anyone that called out would be severely disciplined, possibly even terminated etc. They offered rooms for employees to come in the night before if they thought it would be a problem. Well to make a long story short in a unit of only 6 employees over two shifts 3 called in due to weather leaving everyone short. Was anything said or done to them? No. People will continue to call in because there are no consequences. I wish I could do it but I can't . I feel too guilty about leaving my team short and would worry too much about the patients. I agree it does always seem to be the same few calling in all the time and on my unit one is 25 and one is 50

Primary household earner?
I am the primary breadwinner. I make way more than my husband and I carry all the benefits for myself and our 3 daughters. If I lost my job it would be devastating to us financially.

having to tell your manager you're quitting....the good, bad, and ugly
I am working my last day of a 2 week notice. I have worked for the company for 5 years. They have an automatic no rehire policy of anyone who leaves (stupid I know) but I wanted to work my notice out anyway because I thought it was the right thing to do. Noone has spoken to me in the whole 2 weeks. It has been awful, I cannot wait until this day is over and then I just have to get through turning my computer in etc.. I have been a great employee for 5 years! I hate that it is ending this way. Oh Yeah, my Mom has run sound at the company meetings for several years and my church has allowed us to use their facilities. The owners did call my Mom and thank her for all her help over the years and how much they appreciate her. WHAT? REALLY? You can never predict how people are going to act. You just hope they act professional and do not take a resignation as a personal insult.

Going Back to Work in Hospital After 5 years of Hospice
Its an intermediate floor. The floor itself has 12 beds; however two are reserved for outpatient caths and are empty at night. The other 10 are for the inpatient's. During day shift they have 3 nurses working, at night just the two. I'm working nights. The CICU (at this hospital) stands for coronary intermediate care unit. I know I was confused at first also :)
